And 'scream', unless it's actually being used to mean the max volume, vowels only distress/alarm sound. Speaking in an annoyed way, shouting, or exclaiming are not screaming. Nor will you really scream if someone does the thing you dont want them to do, most of the time.

“I love that for you”. When you give someone an update on yourself, and they reply with rhat. It’s meant to sound supportive but at the same time sort of signals it’s not something for them so sounds weirdly patronising?

I'm not saying the phrases themselves are actually wrong, and please feel free to correct my English if it pleases you, but they are overused and often in the wrong context ... IMHO of course.
Ooh just remembered a new one: "leaning in" lol, always imagine people hingeing forward from the hips when they say that 🤣

Not as phrase as such but that patronising little "finger shake" you see all the time in social media posts and ads telling you you're doing something all wrong.

And I thought "Cringe" was an adjective in the title... best go back to school then 😅

I agree with all of the above. Loved reading them, although I now have some new ones to loathe. 😅
I can't bear "full disclosure", "picky bits", "just leaving this here", "literally" and when people write "this one". Also hard agree on the "red lip". Aargghh I hate that one.

Baffled in particular is a dick thing to say. I work in HE and have dealt with academics who used it in such a condescending way. 😳

My particular peeve at the moment is influencers with ‘home’ type accounts who film a video of themselves doing a ‘re-set’. Yeah, love, you’re tidying up.

The “red lip” nonsense is just one of the fashion writing horrors. Singular terms for things like sandals (“paired with an edgy sandal”) are laughable, as are stupid phrases like “pop of colour”.

But the words and phrases that really piss me off are cod psychology crap. They’re words that are purposely vague and usually either misleading or just voguish bullshit, but supposedly sound important and dramatic:

Gaslight
Narcissist
Toxic
Trauma (for minor upset)
Trigger
Sociopath
etc etc

I was today years old when…
Does that make sense?
I was gifted
A dark trouser and wedge heel

Agree with pp about 'hosting' when someone comes to your house.

'Entertaining' for the same reason. This is particularly common on property shows. I imagine the couple on the gigantic kitchen island in clown costumes, juggling for Sheila and Brian from next door who just popped in for a cuppa.
