I’m watching A Place In The Sun

On C4 right now.

I have this on most days cos I love seeing all the apartments. One thing is bugging me though. The apartments that have swimming pools whether private or shared with several other properties NEVER EVER have a single soul using them. It’s always a picture perfect view of a pristine pool, nobody laid on a sun lounger, no noisy kids splashing about, nothing!
I’m assuming that the camera crew must chase everyone using the pool area out of the way so they can get the perfect picture postcard shot.

I do realise there are bigger problems going on the world 🙈 but it’s just a little peeve!

I’ve got a crush on Ben Hillman. He’s a natural in front of the camera and seems to be a lot of fun to be around. Not so keen on Jasmine. She gets really uptight when people aren’t liking her properties - I think if it was me I’d just say I liked it anyway so she didn’t start ranting about expectations and compromise…

Jasmine does get really pissed off when they don't like her properties but Laura has a look of sheer anger when at decision morning (over a mandatory glass of orange juice) - the couple decide but to proceed with any of the properties and 'need to go home and review their budget' (no shit Sherlock).

Why do they all hold hands all the time?

Why do they all hold hands all the time?

Because they’re living the dream?

Sereine · 27/08/2026 23:54

I'm always amazed at the way people on this can look out at bit of rocky scrubland and marvel at how wonderful the view is. I'm always yelling at the TV that just because it's undeveloped land that doesn't stop it being pig ugly.

That man who was on yesterday was seriously annoying.

“I could just see myself here of an evening with a glass of wine” will be said at least once per episode

Yes! Followed by a little giggle amongst the group. Ah, how delightful! Yes, sitting here, with a little naughty glass of wine. Margaret, you wild thing!

I like her a lot, I think she's trying to manage their expectations.
Is Ben the one who loves the camera (which is just as well I suppose as he's in front of it).

I like Jasmine too. She did a really interesting programme with her mum who has/had a hoarding mental health disorder. And a series with her family renovating their new home. She comes across as genuine and warm.

I'm about to ruin every episode of A Place In The Sun and Escape To The Country. Sorry ....

Nice
Nice

The couples are shown amazing spaces / stunning kitchens / beautiful original features, glorious gardens and say "hmmm, it's quite nice". "This is a nice room". "This is a nice" - bedroom / bathroom / kitchen / whatever ... I once counted 7 "nice's" and they hadn't gone upstairs ...

I met someone who was on APITS who was shown 3 apartments in her budget when she'd asked for a Villa with a pool ..... "dunno why I bothered" she said.

What I love is John and Sue from Scunthorpe with a budget of £50k wanting a detached luxury Spanish villa with a private pool and concierge. They are always a bit deflated at the end with talk of how they’re going to have a think about it and continue the search on their own.

Yeah and you know they will be lucky to end up with a tatty second hand carvan in skegness..

Ah, you know what I mean! Floral and unfortunate-looking. 😀

I’m looking down at what I am wearing today. It’s probably unwise. 😢

But her budget probably would not have got her a villa in the area she was looking for.

Greenlawnbrownlawn · 28/08/2026 08:59

It's Escape to the Country that really gets me (down). This couple work as a postman and a shop assistant and they have 2 million to spend and want 4 acres in the Cotswolds for their horses and classic car collection.

At least APITS is achievable for people, ETTC isn't even fantasy TV, I find it quite depressing. (I know I can turn it off - I frequently do!) I just don't believe anyone buys on that programme.

Ilovemyfam · 28/08/2026 09:00

Livelovebehappy · 27/08/2026 21:58

Or the presenter says “they won’t accept your offer of £70k. The absolute lowest they will accept is £75k”, then the guy will say to his wife “let’s offer £72k”. The presenters must inwardly cringe…

Do people negotiate like that in real life? I haven’t bought a property since 1986 so no idea how it goes.

I would be embarrassed

Laura is actually borderline terrifying a) when they have ridiculous expectations at the start b)when someone says ‘if we could lift this up and put it where property 1 was.’ Property 1 generally being in an area where everything was three times the price.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 28/08/2026 09:01

I like the ones where they want a rural property but then get put off by the fact that there will be animals in fields.
Or where Janice wants a whole room for her shoes, and Alan is thinking of taking up pottery in the cellar so they go to look at some local pottery and Alan gets a bit despondent.

Recklessismymiddlename · 28/08/2026 09:09

We were staying at a hotel at our timeshare in U.K. when they were filming ETTC, let me tell you they were bigging up the local area so much so all of did not recognise, our WhatsApp chat was on fire!

I’m looking down at what I am wearing today. It’s probably unwise. 😢

But are you stomping gloomily along an empty beach, apparently surgically attached by the hand to a man in cargo shorts called Roger whose vocabulary is restricted to ‘Good-sized’ and ‘Nice’ and whose eyes are full of disappointment at the way life has turned out? If not, I bet your dress, however floral, looks lovely.

Recklessismymiddlename · 28/08/2026 11:16

Tbf they must be told to hold hands. The couple on ETTC, weren’t holding hands at our hotel, when we saw them out and about in the hotel grounds. They were in the same restaurant as us at dinner. And they were sat at a different table to Nikki Chapman. Obviously we didn’t know till it was aired, what they were going to be filming.

Philandbill · 28/08/2026 11:26

I wish they'd do follow up shows to see what happened. Both for those who bought and those who were 'reviewing their budget' etc.

DetailRedacted · 28/08/2026 11:28

I’m going to get my bingo card ready for today’s episode of APITS 😁

My partner and I can always tell (well, 90% of the time) who are "orange juice thieves" by the end of property 2. Not there to buy, just wanted a free break in X country. Sipping their orange juice with the presenter at the end knowing full well they were never going to buy anything.

We can't abide Laura. You can tell she was a children's TV presenter, she's so annoying, and half the time shows them properties that are remotely what they asked for. She seems to take genuine umbrage if they don't like somewhere (Jasmine can be a bit like that).

We also can't abide Leah. She's quite abrasive and her voice is so grating.

Ben we love. He seems fun and, of all the presenters, seems to be the one that really listens to what people tell him and you can always see why he's showing them what he's showing them. Lee is ok, but does come across as fancying himself a bit much.

It's a shame they seem to focus so much on Spain in more recent series. It used to be a much better mix. There's even less of France now, and barely any Italy or Greece compared with earlier series. I don't think they ever go out of Europe now, whereas they used to occasionally do Florida or the Caribbean which were always interesting.

Dragonflyspeeding · 28/08/2026 11:32

Don’t forget the ones who wave to be near an airport and in the centre of town but then complain about the noise.

Or the ones who have a budget for a one bed and when they are shown properties complain that it’s not big enough as their eight grandchildren will spend the holidays with them,

Maybe thats why they want to escape to the the country so that one of them could bugger off when they are getting on each others nerves 🤔

Badbadbunny · 28/08/2026 11:43

We always laugh at the ones who want something "traditional" and then change their minds when presented with 3/4 run down hovels with barely any kitchen, low ceilings/doorways, in the middle of nowhere, not joined to mains services, etc.! The 4/5th property is then something more "Normal" and modern which they generally prefer!!

Yorkshirelass04 · 28/08/2026 11:50

The best one was this couple that really wanted a hot tub in their new place.

When they got to negotiations the seller said they wanted a certain price but as a sweetner would throw in their disused old hot tub as part of the deal.

It was like Christmas come early for Pat and Brian.
