I have to do a horrible thing tonight and I’m not sure I can do it (trigger warning r*pe)

Something awful happened at the weekend, a ‘friend’ raped me, and tonight I have to go and do a video interview. I’m just not sure that I can go through with it. Even thinking about it makes me shake. I’ve done the forensics bit at the weekend, this is just the interview instead of making a statement.

Not sure what I’m posting for really. Has anyone else done one of these before? What if they don’t believe me?

Oh love I’m so sorry you had to go through this, it takes a strong woman to report and go through with it, so glad you are feeling you can. Much love.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. This interview is a tough and brave thing to do. May it lead to the justice you desire ❤️

Lurkingandlearning · Yesterday 19:53

I hope you got through the appointment ok. It must have been incredibly difficult.

The same thing happened to me decades ago and I pretended it never happened. The last of many recurring nightmares about it was three weeks ago. I don’t think that would keep happening if I had “dealt with it “ at the time. So as awful as it feels to do that right now you might be saving yourself a lot of pain in the long run. I’m not suggesting you will ever forget what he did but by following through with reporting it maybe, in time, it will put a slightly less vulnerable context to your memory of it. I don’t know if that is possible because I didn’t do it. But I hope it is for you

I've realised the rape by a "friend" that happened when I was in my twenties has affected me deeply psychologically and sexually for the rest of my life as I kept it to myself and didn't tell family or friends or the police, of course, as I was drunk and he wouldn't take no for an answer, so it was clearly my fault.
You are right to do this, @NotSureICanDoIt, I wish you all the strength in the world to go through with it. But if you find you can't, you do your best, and look after yourself, and at least please, I beg you, get counselling.

I went to a police interview with a friend who reported her ex for rape.

I did nothing except hold her hand and hug her when she cried. I thought she was incredibly brave and I think you are too.

Be kind to yourself. Find support and strength in real life - either professional or from your friends, if and when you’re ready to tell them. I hope you feel safe tonight.

ManchesterGirl2 · Yesterday 21:10
