Partner unhappy with my outfit choice for a warm barbecue

So im Currently at a bbq with friends, only a few i dont know.
Its really quite warm and sunny, what i would call beach weather. My DP has quesgioned my chice of clothing on this paricularly warm day which consists of denim mini skirt and a close fitting crop top, its alittle sheer with diamantee style lettering to the front.
In heat like this i would normally be in a bikini in the garden.

I know this might come as a shock to you, but people react to heat differently. Just because one lives in or is used to London doesn't mean they can't feel hot.

I know you started the thread trying to get everyone to accuse your dp of being controlling, but actually, sometimes people close to us are the ones that have to take the gauntlet of telling people when something isn't the best idea.

What I said was that for London in this year 24 degrees would not be considered hot. Comparatively.

No, I’ve seen lots of posts talking about the sheer diamonte crop top, most people have said the skirt sounds fine and appropriate.

Of course people react differently to heat but that doesn’t change the fact that today isn’t like one of the hot days we’ve had in London this summer.

well, I’m clearly not finding out what the diamanté lettering spells, but I will say -

I don’t think a denim skirt is an issue.
i don’t think a crop top is an issue.
i even think a little sheerness can look good, in the right design.

but diamantés, on a crop top, which is also sheer, is giving ‘13 and just been allowed to make my first order on Shein’ vibes.

I’m not a prude, I’m not in any way jealous (always such an odd argument to give), I’m just aware that different situations call for different ways of dressing.

for example, I went to a bbq myself last night. Had an outfit in mind (no part of it was sheer, no part of it included diamantés), popped it on and realised that it made my nipples too much of a main attraction. Probably would have worn it still in some situations, but as the bbq was going to be full of my partners employees, I thought I’d change.

Honestly the outfit you described could either look sexy and suits you or tacky and cheap. It all depends on how you pull it off, plus your height and figure. So if your dp specifically said it didn't look good and it is unusual for him to say so, then perhaps there is some truth in what he is saying. You might not agree with him but he is just voicing his opinion.

I'm literally in London. I'm boiling. The guy opposite is cooking wearing just pants (he is fit, tbf.). Soz for quoting you again!

The OP didn’t ask for opinions on the outfit from her DP or otherwise - if you’re asked fine but surely unless you’re at risk of breaking the law or harming yourself or others then wear what you like

To be far, if me and my partner were heading to a bbq and he walked out the house in a pair of tracksuit bottoms and a vest, I’d have something to say about that, opinion asked for or not.

No one is suggesting she is? She posted on here asking for opinions. My opinion is the skirt sounds fine, the top sounds tacky. She won’t answer what it says on the front either, the fact two men at this bbq have commented is telling. They don’t exactly sound fashion forward.

Ha ha. Tbf, I think my neighbour's garb might be more a performative than meteorological choice. Still, I'm not complaining (wait! Maybe that's why I feel so hot and bothered. Mystery solved).
