Partner unhappy with my outfit choice for a warm barbecue

So im Currently at a bbq with friends, only a few i dont know.
Its really quite warm and sunny, what i would call beach weather. My DP has quesgioned my chice of clothing on this paricularly warm day which consists of denim mini skirt and a close fitting crop top, its alittle sheer with diamantee style lettering to the front.
In heat like this i would normally be in a bikini in the garden.
I think hes well out of order

I bet you look nice! He knows you look nice and will probably think others will look at you 😊 (jealousy). some awful comments on here! I don't think there is anything wrong wearing what you're wearing??? 33 is hardly old is it 😭

Mrs Bakewell asked me how she looked wearing a dress she got from a charity shop for £5 and a pair of trainers.

Apparently "like you're on day release" was the wrong answer.

If he's objecting to you showing leg whilst men swan about with their tops off then he's being a controlling prick and needs to have the double standard called out.

If you are informing mumsnet about this instead of enjoying the bbq you seem to be second guessing the appropriateness of your outfit.

I can cope with the skirt but the top seems more suited to a nightclub. If it's sheer you probably need to wear a top underneath it (it's probably designed to be worn over a full length vest top.)

It does seem a bit strange for a BBQ. I'd probably wear shorts or a skirt and a top. Something I can bung a cardi over when it gets chilly 😂. And definitely flat shoes.

My DH would point out I’m dressed like my 12 year old niece which would be enough for me to get changed.

I don’t think he’d worry I was dressed immodesty, just that I looked a bit of a tool 😂

Would be also tell you how much ketchup you should have on your burger and whether you’ve had too many cheese slices?

Why is everyone acting like there’s a dress code for a BBQ! It’s a bit of food in the garden and what’s the difference between a formal and casual BBQ?
