Partner unhappy with my outfit choice for a warm barbecue

So im Currently at a bbq with friends, only a few i dont know.
Its really quite warm and sunny, what i would call beach weather. My DP has quesgioned my chice of clothing on this paricularly warm day which consists of denim mini skirt and a close fitting crop top, its alittle sheer with diamantee style lettering to the front.
In heat like this i would normally be in a bikini in the garden.
I think hes well out of order

My husband (was a boyfriend at the time) we’d been together just over year, said I couldn’t wear my denim shorts bowling with my friends. They were very short and I wouldn’t have worn them bowling anyway. BUT… I wasn’t going to let him think he can tell me what to wear. I wore the shorts, and he dropped me off and picked me up after 😂😂. He’s never done it again.

I think I’d be wearing that outfit every time I left the house 😂😂

Only you know if he’s controlling or has had an issue with your outfits in the past.

I would always rather someone told me if I looked like a twat.

He’s either controlling or thinks you look silly - unfortunately we can’t say either way.

I don’t usually care what other people wear but I would be a bit surprised at an adult constantly on their phone.

I went to a BBQ last weekend and everyone was too busy chatting and eating to be on their phones much.
Half of the time I didn’t even know where my phone was.

You go girl! My DP would be over the moon if I wore something like that but I’m 60 so no chance 🤪. I wish I’d had the confidence to wear a crop top in my 30’s, I do wonder now what I was so worried about.

After the Summer we’ve had I’m feeling positively chilly right now, it might be time to bring my duvet back!

Anyway, the only way to judge an outfit is by looking at it. And even then, sometimes you need to see it in real life as some people can really rock an outfit that others can’t.

Fashion is of course subjective. But people here saying that you can’t wear a denim mini over the age of 14 or even 25, clearly are absolutely clueless.

I hope you have learnt your lesson OP and will not come to MN for any kind of fashion advice. It’s dire here!

The op is an adult. She can wear what the fuck she wants and go on her phone whenever she feels like it.

Good Lord, I’m almost 40 and I went to an event at the village pub the other night wearing (GASP) a black crop top. And I’m (whisper it) fat. God forbid anyone was upset by my outfit, body, age, need to stay cool in the heat, or relative ‘cheapness’🤔Honestly, I don’t know how I sleep at night, won’t someone think of the children, etc etc.

@Beachlover1993 if you were at a job interview or a funeral i’d say maybe tone the outfit down a bit 😉but for a summer bbq? sounds fine to me.

I'm in central London. I'm boiling. I'm doing housework in my pants and vest. (Hope that does not offend OP's DP. (No diamante involved, if it makes a difference).

Not hot, but warm enough to be wearing summer clothes.

I simply said 24 degrees was not unusually hot for someone used to London.
Which it isn’t for this summer.

No one is saying the denim skirt sounds weird at all, as everyone knows despite pretending otherwise.
