I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I enjoy decorating for autumn..nothing crazy just a few small candles /floral decorations and a nice candle.
Anyway partner told me I can’t put anything out till October.
i was in spare bedroom and seen a little candle “vanilla pumpkin” I thought oh il just put it on unit and maybe light it when it’s dark.

Partner just really kicked off
Its too early
looks stupid
I said October
You don’t listen
Not even joking either ,being really nasty about it

Anyway I’ve just put it back in the cupboard

Was I wrong to go against him and put the candle out ?
Even tho he said October

You are a bit wrong, as it's nowhere near autumn yet but you're not doing any harm.

The way you describe him speaking to you is seriously wrong and sounds controlling.

I think you have bigger things to worry about than candles OP.

Edited

This.

Actually it's almost 🍁 🍂 autumn anyway so put out your autumn decor and candles. September, October & November are Autumn! Next week it's September so tell him shove his unreasonable demand up his chocolate whizzway.

There is no law that says you must wait until September or October to put Autumnal themed items out. Those saying you're wrong are utterly bizarre and just as controlling as your partner. Why are you asking for his permission? If you enjoy Autumnal themes - Put them out whenever you want and not because Netmums conforms to some kind of unwritten rule or because your husband is controlling and abusive.

The 'i said October' would have been when he'd have been told to get the entire way to fuck and never tell me what to do again. But my husband would never.

this is fucked up, you can decorate a Christmas tree if you want to without having him kick off. Is he normally a fucking prick?

Neither of the men i married would have even noticed let alone be mean and nasty they were both complete dickheads so yours must be a super dick.

Yes you were wrong. It's August.

Are you serious?! WTAF is wrong with having candles burning in the evening once it's dark even in the Summer? 🙄
I and loads of people I know and family all love candles as they give such a warm soft glow to a room which is much nicer than harsh electric lights, even from lamps sometimes, especially when watching TV! 😊
The main problem here is OP's seeming acceptance of her partner's overbearing control and bossiness...I wouldn't put up with that for one second and it sounds like he is very narrow minded and possibly even misogynistic? 😡

Shoxfordian · 26/08/2026 06:05

He's not nice to you op - why are you still putting up with it?

Sartre · 26/08/2026 07:52

Autumn begins in September so you’re like a week away, less than. The candle sounds lovely, my DH wouldn’t even notice the scent of them. I put my autumn wreath up in September.

Perhaps you misread? It was a pumpkin candle.

Not only was her DP completely justified in his response, I'm surprised he's not ditched her yet.

No! Not a pumpkin! OMFG!! 😱I can't make out if you are being serious or sarcastic? If the former then you need, as they say, to give your head a very hard wobble!! 🙄
