I think a lot of those threads are intended to be provocative because they desperately want the engagement. Monitoring & plopping is part of the same thinking. A desire to be seen and noticed.

No fun in politely making excuses and moving on.

In fairness, I've not heard her comment on the nickname. It's her supporters who never lose an opportunity to frame left wing people as racist, anti semites, misogynists etc so they can accuse us of being 'just as bad' and hypocrites to boot. Unfortunately for them, the pickings are slim given these things are far more embedded in their own ideology. So they do the best they can with what they've got.

It's probably also helpful not to give those threads page views, which is where the money is made.

im another one who remembers the public safety adverts some were actually quite terrifying but they hit home, the loss of lives this summer is horrific.

Just to add re my cousin - it is indeed a trauma within the family but he died before I was born so I , personally, have no grief to carry.

My uncle died from childhood leukemia when he was 14. It's now a curable disease but the grief regarding his death, a lovely happy boy, carried on. Obviously I never knew him.

Yes. With a fair dollop of paranoia mixed in at times, too. It is quite odd.

Yes, I've noticed that too. I'm really interested in personality types and the psychology linked to politics.
I've seen a shift in my lifetime from a time where being 'of the right' was associated with stereotypes of respectability, small c conservatism, decent, sensible, middle class do goodery; while the left were the angry, shouty, bring on the revolution working class.
Now being on the left is linked with higher education, tolerance and the very values that were instilled in us as children, consideration for others, generosity, sharing and (the dreaded) kindness.
While the right have become the ranty, bitter, grabby, furious bullies of the vulnerable.
They really hate this stereotype because they want to still be the superior good guys, while embracing ideas that are objectively harmful.
This involves DARVO where they frame themselves as victims of the left. "You call us stupid. You call us racists. You silence us. You are anti semetic. You hate us because we work hard.." They've cobbled together a blue haired folk devil called 'the left' and are furious with it.

They are angry in person as well - those on protests are literally seething and struggle to contain outright violence at times - it’s very obvious (I mean some actually don’t contain these urges despite Tommeh always providing the advice to stay calm 👀 and posters saying local stuff is family friendly fun 👀👀). Random racists who comment in the street to me - most annoying they assume I will share their views - also seem pretty angry.

We do music and positivity and fun on counter protests and events. I’d choose my side whatever I think - it’s nicer and better for my soul lol!

Agree with the random angry racists you meet in the street/shops/bus stop feels as though it’s becoming increasingly common unfortunately I do find it fascinating that they feel so right & entitled to spew such hate but they can’t deal with any pushback apart from shouting louder.

My hair covers the horns and no. But I do listen to them on Spotify.

I would say that the majority in our church are left of centre and we definitely don’t fit that stereotype.

I haven't engaged in those threads for a while now for a couple of reasons. First, I noticed that a while back there were only a few voices pushing, now there are many more, meaning readers are still seeing some pushback.

Second, the right wing parties are stagnant in the polls, they are failing and walking away from local government. Despite little pushback from mainstream parties and their lies being allowed to stand and given air to, they are dropping back.

Thirdly, I am saving my energy. At the moment they are just background noise, it's slightly too loud, but certainly not impacting on the important decisions being taken for the country. If and when they need stopping (general election) then I will make my voice heard. Let them blow hot air for now.

Have noticed since the catastrophe that was the Clacton by-election, there's less calls for a general election.

They are now all pretending they are "glad of the break" from elections.🤭

They got what they wanted, Starmer and Reeves are out.
