Welcome to our long running thread for political discussion, general chit chat, a friendly hug and taxes in kind. 💐🍦 for anyone who needs them.

Thanks for the new thread and welcome back Duncin.

Going for car tax rather than cat tax just because I see this car every single time I walk past St Pancras (not that I do that too often) and I always wonder whose it is and how come they can just leave it there. There's usually people taking selfies next to it.

So sorry to hear about your cats. Losing them and seeing them so unwell is hard.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate the support on this thread, along with the political discussion.

So sorry Countrygirl. Didn't you lose another animal recently? It is hard when they go.

That photo looks how I feel at the moment every time I open that bloody PIP thread! It is a great photo.

I lost my horse in May. Mog was born a few weeks afterwe bought him and we were riding back from a show when my son got the text to say the kittens were being born. So bit of a double whammy yesterday. But she lived the life of Riley as a stable cat being spoiled rotten and frequently shared neighbours lunchtime bacon sandwich.

countrygirl99 · 16/08/2026 14:52

I've come to one of my local nature reserves this afternoon. It's one I volunteer at doing coppicing in the winter but I have been here since May. This is a lake!

Sad cat tax from me. This little monkey died yesterday aged 18. She spent most of her life in next door's stables having taken a dislike to our then resident cat. Imagine a tiny kitten back arched, tail erect hissing furiously at an adult cat who is trying hard to ignore it and just get to her favourite chair.

Edited

What a character! Sounds like a good life was led.

BIWI · 16/08/2026 15:15

@Zonder I believe that the owner of the car has an apartment there.

Spandauer · 16/08/2026 15:36

Thanks for the new thread.
Welcome back everyone who's been away.
Such sad cat tax 😔 💐 to all.

I have become such a bleeding heart in my old age as I am now worrying about spiders in the drought! Saw a post somewhere that said spiders are suffering and to mist any webs you see with water. One person said they watched the spider scurry out and drink all the water droplets. 😬

Cat tax
What d'ya mean, I can't eat the spider?

If was going to have a wanker car, it would have to be that colour.

I am going to try that! I was pleased to see two wasps drinking oit of one of the water dishes I have put out, but I have never seen wasps drinking before, apart when they land in my wine glass.

Heartfelt sympathy for the lost and poorly cats. They take a piece of your heart with them...

Repeat after me: I must not post on PIP threads. I Must not post on PIP threads. I must not post on PIP threads.

Bowls of water with some sticks or stones so that the insects can get out.

DH had a selfie next to that outside St Pancras July last year!

Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes, it has been hard realising that Lightning’s long-term quality of life might be less than what it should be. He is such an adorable cat too.

But at least he’s still with us, I’ve been through the loss of a beloved cat, so I know how painful that can be.

I agree with you about PIP threads, too. I don't post on them myself, they wind me up too much and I really don't want to get into argument, which would be a waste of my time.

TemperanceWest · 16/08/2026 16:50

Sorry about your cat, Lizzie. You are right about the PIP threads. I have posted on the onr today and wish I hadn't. The utter lies that people write are just so bloody annoying, though. Sitting on my hands now and repeating @pointythings mantra.

Notonthestairs · 16/08/2026 17:00

The PIP posters are desperate for you to engage.

And its not because they want a discussion regarding the inadequacies of the system and how best to support disabled people in work/into work.

Those threads are to give Reform credibility, anything that shows a more nuanced position has to be shot down.

Clickbait answers only.

Notonthestairs · 16/08/2026 17:01

And sorry for those that have lost beloved pets. They do become part of the family.

Replying to them just prolongs the "engagement" that keeps them alive and keeps MNHQ happy.

The posters who know the ins and outs of strangers on holiday, next door neighbours and bizarrely their ex (latter was quickly shut down when it was pointed out they should report for fraud) amazed me in their capacity for lies.

PickAChew · 16/08/2026 17:20

Ooh, party at my place. Bring a bucket.
