Yes, it is odd how we are monitored so closely! As you say, some of the threads are just so vile and depressing that I feel tainted just reading them. There is only so many times you can call out the shite.

I think lefties that aren't posting are probably sick of reading the same responses. There's a limit to how many times I want to read the exact same arguments and phrases about immigration.
Far from feeling 'beaten' I actually feel the opposite, and that there's not much to say that won't come across as a little smug right now.
They need our engagement, otherwise they're just ranting at each other. They need our dissent as the springboard for their rhetoric and they want us back.

agree I’m another who stays here or little forage into telly addicts/home decor/property & diy & occasionally style & beauty otherwise I would be a total wreck the sheer amount of disinformation/racism bashing of anyone who dares to claim benefits etc etc it’s pointless against such rabid hate plus it’s bloody depressing I for one would really miss your contributions Temperance & any other poster who is feeling the same, these threads are my little beacon of hope.

Well, I tried to argue calling Polanski by his previous name was anti semitic and that wasn't deleted.

To me, that is clearer cut - as if they are arguing Polanski isn't Jewish and it is a cloak he wears because he is really called Robert Paulson.

I forgot Polanski from my list. The comments on his nose could definitley be construed as classic anti semitism ,as could many of the comments about Miliband (who people call Millipede).

I feel the same. I just read the Labour thread and it's crazy. Feels like they know they've lost so much ground.

I like talking to people about their non political dramas. Giving my two pennorth on allegedly over stepping MiL, inadequate DHs and friends who have only invited OPs to the evening do of their weddings.
Given I tend to like the outfits everyone dismisses as cheap and age inappropriate and find myself muttering "How much??? For a handbag???" I've learned I'm neither stylish or beautiful enough for the S&B board.

@5128gap must admit I’m regularly baffled on S&B & slink away feeling as though I have absolutely no fashion sense & absolutely everything I like or would buy is wrong.

There’s definitely a limit to how many times I can be bothered to correct disinformation on immigration - I’m sure many have seen the many comments on asylum claims and why they’re not actually seeking asylum from France on here or elsewhere, but the same shite gets repeated over and over, and these false premises make any rational debate impossible as you’re starting with a fallacy. I just can’t most times - and especially not politely any more!

SUTR have quite an ethos that we must always show up, always combat the protests or gatherings, always counter bad information- or the far right think they are gaining ground, being the voice of the people. I get that but hopefully it doesn’t apply to MN as I’m not following much up here lately - be like whack a mole anyhow and I wasn’t good at that! Excuses perhaps I suppose.

I do like the bizarre threads - remind me of penis beaker which brought me here! Enjoyed one around not letting husband sleep naked in bed - batshit and hilarious - I was pleased it seemed to be resurrected recently, but it didn’t go much further unfortunately.

Frankly these threads and the alcohol support threads are the only places where I post regularly. The batshittery level on MN is bananas.

And when they say they're going to a night club in their town, and don't know what to wear, and are told with authority that No One wears jeans anymore, they need to wear a massive maxi dress that costs a weeks wages from Mint Velvet with a kitten heel. I think of my small town night spots and have a little chuckle to myself, thinking, please check the photos on the website first.

My ds experienced this in Turkey!!

He was on a training camp with British swimming and they used the diving pit pool for the session as it’s 25m (as opposed to the 50m pool).

They are both outside but the diving pit pools are designed to be colder as well as naturally colder due to depth.

DS got in and despite training his body just seized up 🫣

DH got cold water shock in Cornwall.

To be fair, there were signs at a hut as you entered the beach about the water being especially cold but he figured they were going in to throw a ball about and splash about at armpit depth.

He got out and then went into full on shock. He has a heart defect and it was terrifying.

One of my cousins died in a swimming pool on the day his family moved into a new house. I think he was about 10 at the time. Don't know if anyone read the thread about the uncovered pond yesterday. That smacked my gob.

And the people who see an invitation to a wedding, or God forbid, a hen do, as a personal affront. That they're being asked to do the B&G a huge inconvenient honour by attending, for which the couple must pay by ensuring every aspect of their wedding, from location, to menu to evening entertainment is arranged to the OPs preferences.
If you can't travel to Dunny on the Wold, or tolerate a meat free buffet, or go three hours without being well fed, or think an evening only invitation from Shirley at work is an insult, whatever happened to just politely making excuses, rather than seething with rage and calling your hosts names?

I arrived with penis beaker too. S&B amuses me. All the dresses I like are variously described as “sacks” or “Amish”. I don’t give a fig!

Glad your ds was ok. I think ds biggest reason for the suffering is his HSP means he can’t control his body temper deal with extremes well - or rather his muscles hate any extremes!

It certainly is a very apt nickname for Kemi in view of some of the things she herself says. As well as her support for a neo Nazi. And she’s the one who mocks people for taking offence at ‘hurty words’.

At work in central London, a million years ago, we used to go to a open air rooftop swimming pool which I really enjoyed, especially when it snowed, magical moment.

Everyone just stopped swimming and raised our faces to the softly falling snowflakes. There may have been a rendition of Favourite Things from the Sound of Music.
