Wow! Thanks for pointing this out. I hadn't noticed. Do you think it's really because I put Badenoch with a gap? Funny thing is it's not even deliberate - sometimes my phone autocorrects and sometimes I notice. It does it with Farage and Garage too.

Definitely. There was nothing else in your post that was delete-worthy. Maybe explain to mnhq that it was an autocorrect error and ask them to reinstate your post?

Thanks I'll do that.

Badenoch vs Burnham at PMQs will be very interesting. I am not sure her usual tactics will work. If PMQs ends up being less adversarial it will be a good thing.

BIossomtoes · 25/08/2026 07:58

I’m not sure either. Burnham has the advantage of watching her for nearly two years and working out a strategy for dealing with her in advance. I have a feeling that humour will feature quite strongly.

Zonder · 25/08/2026 08:08

@TemperanceWest was right. Bit strange given some of the names actively given to Labour politicians on these boards.

Hi there,
Thanks for getting in touch. It was why your post was deleted, yes. We suggest that you change your phone settings as all future examples of this will be deleted as to our users it appears that you are saying something targeted and racist. Unfortunately we don't have the manpower to edit your posts.
Best,
Hope

Interesting @Zonder- I guess that ‘targeted’ explains why all the average racist posts on here don’t get deleted - they’re not ‘targeted’ at a specific person - sigh.

They don't seem to be as quick to delete all the genuine racist shit out there.

Or any of the other "targeted" name calling.

placemats · 25/08/2026 08:13

They don't have the 'manpower' for it.

I think what isn’t explained enough is that despite them thinking - but it’s so hot. That actually increases the risk of cold water shock because your body and skin temp is so much warmer.

Cold water shock is awful.
When I was a teenager many years ago, I swam with a swim club, so was a pretty strong swimmer.

It was a really hot day, and we had a free outdoor pool (miliatary). It got deep very quickly at one point because of the diving boards at one end, I was really hot, had been in the sun all day and got to the pool at around half four. I jumped in where it was just deep enough, but still close to where it was shallow.

The pain that hit as I sunk like a stone and all my muscles seized up was like nothing else. I remember walking along the bottom of the pool until I was shallow enough to get my head out. If I had been in any depth I would not have surfaced without help.

DuncinToffee · 25/08/2026 08:31

The use of spaced badenoch warranted the whole post being taken down?

Oh dear at that response. She wasn't even the subject of the post. And she has kind of earned that name by the ex nazi appointment.

I thought Starmer handled her well during PMQs

Exactly @DuncinToffee

I guess MN are more concerned about the appearance of racism than actual racism.

If only they were so stringent with other things that appear racist to users. I guess there is bad racism and good racism on mumsnet.

Piggywaspushed · 25/08/2026 08:47

They really need to explain why that nickname in itself is specifically racist. I don't like giving names to politicians as a general rule.

I don't understand targeted either. She is not another poster. It's a name used for her well beyond the walls of MN.

Obviously, they have precedent - so if they have done it once, they can't change their minds. But I would like a clear explanation. Suella Braverman regularly is called Cruella. I haven't seen that deleted.

I have seen so much racism on here about Meghan Markle, Sadiq Khan, Jason Arday and , my God, don't get me started on travellers. I have seen it because it isn't deleted.

Agree. The nickname gives Badenoch the name of a racist, so there could be objection on the grounds its defamatory, but I can't see how it's racist. Is calling Polanski anti semetic antisemitism because Polanski is Jewish? I've seen this many times.

Oh my goodness I have been a bit thick! The only connection I made with the E name was the one in the Bible who was whisked away by God! I've only just realised the other connection. D'oh.

I still don't think it's anywhere near as bad as so many actual examples of racism. And it did say Bad you know what, not Good you know what!

TemperanceWest · 25/08/2026 09:07

Tbh I am close to giving up on MN. I don't think I can be bothered with it for much longer apart from this thread.

It feels like MN is becoming the GB News of internet forums. A lot of the decent posters (including the moderate right wingers) are posting less and less. So much disinformation is allowed to stand as well as the xenophobia.

Its a nickname that's begging to be given to a right wing politician with her surname. I can see how as a black woman she may find this particularly offensive. However no more so than a Jewish man might find being labelled anti semetic.

I get this - though hope you don’t - your contributions here are a pleasure - but it is a cesspit in areas and quite depressing- even on what should be the average and mundane threads OP there is such a range of vitriol posted back for no apparent reason I can see.

I stopped commenting on most, now stopped reading a lot of them - I do have threads I’m on, this, Trump and OLD that are great - I also found a couple of great threads in caring/elderly parents a bit back that helped save my sanity tbh.

I am however starting to feel uncomfortable that the whole platform is ok with the far right and racism, and other isms - I mean free speech yes, but these are getting so widespread. Mind I’m on fb so I can’t really say much ha!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 25/08/2026 09:25

Many years ago I had a black cat called Enoch.
Just saying...

Its frustrating that the right wing obsessives seem to appear on so many threads, ruining what could be an interesting discussion. This week someone posted about what could be done to make women feel safer. A really important topic and an opportunity for women to share ideas. Yet first page, there's some ranter "misogynist cultures...fighting age men...raping British women...boats...lefties..." and anyone daring to discuss danger from men who aren't immigrants (including a woman raped by white British men) is accused of not caring about women's safety. Its very wearing as I'd have found that thread really helpful.

I feel the same @MsJinks . But as you say there are other parts of MN that are helpful and fun, so maybe the answer is just to ignore the hateful threads. No point trying to counteract the lies. Just leave the bigots to keep winding each other up into a state of fury.

I can see why you’re tempted to give up but please don’t. I’ve noticed comments on various threads that the “lefties” aren’t posting and they know they’re beaten. It never occurs to them that some threads are such cesspits that you feel dirty just reading them. The pig wrestling analogy is very apt. Apart from this thread I now post on S&B and a lovely thread quite similar to this one about Binface.

Totally agree. I'm getting really fed up with it too and wish there was some reasonable alternative.

I reported a post a couple of days ago on the thread about the fatal crash on the A66. It was mere speculation about what had happened just prior to the collision but I was told it didn't break MN guidelines.

I seriously think their guidelines need amending considering some shite i see that is allowed to stand.

DuncinToffee · 25/08/2026 09:35

That is funny @BIossomtoes , I think leaving them to it is more apt.

I have seen this thread being referenced quite a bit, I wondered why that was,

I tend to avoid the more vexatious threads now.
I find that the threads about cats, music, books and of course these threads suit me much better, and are far more civilised than some other areas of the site now.
