A lot of sense. Thank you cardi. Stressful day yesterday as Mr B had his transplant. He’s doing well after ten hours on the table and will be in ICU for a few days, then another two/three weeks in hospital.

DuncinToffee · 21/08/2026 08:18

All the best for Mr B and you Blossom

UK consumer confidence hits 2-year high, GfK says 😀
🚗 Major purchase index highest since Dec 2021
💸 Financial and economic sentiment rise

It's not just GfK - all these surveys show strengthening consumer morale:
• YouGov/Cebr

We really are in 1984 then - truth has no meaning, just changed to suit. The misinformation is scary, but a lot of less challenged people know this, and can challenge/debate it.

The disinformation is a new level - though very similar to money scams where you’re taken to a webpage that looks real but isn’t - maybe that’s a way in to educate/address it.

pointythings · 21/08/2026 08:24

Fingers crossed for Mr B!* *

MsJinks · 21/08/2026 08:24

Don’t solve any homeless issues as we might get migrants - I have no words for this - well I have but they don’t belong on a nice thread! It is though beyond bizarre!

MsJinks · 21/08/2026 08:28

I can’t credit we forget Jason Arday so quickly that we are now filled everywhere with bile about members of the RF.

It’s like everyone knows these folk personally, understands each and every (bad) motive, and so has a right to vilify - which should never be the case, if we found our humanity again anyway. Sigh

Spandauer · 21/08/2026 08:32

Sending best wishes to you @BIossomtoes and Mr B.

I read something on FB earlier from Jenrick about PIP.

He talks about PIP and cutting it for working age people (what he means in younger people) and getting them into work and off PIP (which we know isn’t an out of work benefit)

But then goes onto talk about earning their UC (which is an out of work benefit).

Keeps quoting between 4 and 5 million. (Well we know reform loves the 5mil figure 😉).

Yet unless you get LCWRA you don’t get any extra health money through UC. Those on the old style or with severe disability still get the £400 odd and anyone after April this year gets £200 odd. (Unless severe).

Those with LCW don’t get an extra payment. What they get is the initial amount earned (again about £200) disregarded if the don’t earn enough and need UC top up to recognise they often can’t work full time and part rime
hours are more necessity than choice - for a whole host of reasons.

Then goes in again saying if people want their benefits they can give back to the community for them and will get an extra £30 expenses.

Apart from all the obvious unnecessary cruelness and targeting the figures state that as of March this year only 2.8mil are in LCWRA.

Only those 2.8 get a health payment on UC.

Ao when they say they are cutting those figures and expect to be able to cut it to 2.8 mil only needing those payments they are literally forging a narrative that means they can show the figures and say “look
what we’ve done”

Which will essentially be nothing!!!!

Notonthestairs · 21/08/2026 10:12

It's deliberate obfuscation.

Jenrick/Reform are reliant on supporters/potential supporters not reading beyond the headline. Maybe they read the first para.

So it doesn't matter if the numbers don't stack up or they've used terminology interchangeably.

The policy doesn't need to be accurate or effective.
Just that [selected group of people that isn't me] gets their just desserts.

Politics as entertainment.

This is the Starmer strategy (which he paid dearly for) being vindicated.
