Polite but a bit obtuse - which can come across as passive aggressive.
If the work needs doing, employ people on at least minimum wage to do it, not ‘ask’ benefit claimants to do it for less than that (ie benefits). There’s also the small matter of the number of UC claimants who already work.

I feel sick. I have just seen the many many laughing emojis and sick comments on FB because the people who lost their lives at Shoreham were Palestinian origin refugees.

Jenrick and his ilk have legitimised this level of discourse.

That's the spirit! Do remember that to tell everyone else when they're moaning about their job being devalued and their salaries halved. "Yes I know you get paid far less for your job these days because wages have been driven down from the bottom up. But you still get to enjoy the fruits of your labour..."

Facebook is a cess pool. It's mostly filled with bots, AI content and people whose brains are so rotted by the bots and AI slop they lose all sense of reality. (I'm not talking about people with an account they visit occasionally or those who keep in touch with family etc. More the ones who are on it all the time or at the same rate I'm on Mumsnet. Hem.
I'd hope the laughing emojis are from the bots but they are probably also from the brain rotted people.

MN comments will be more subtle "Its obviously a tragedy when people lose their lives. BUT..." They make me sicker tbh. At least the FB ones aren't pretending to be anything other than what they are.

Yeah the MN type comments on there are centred around what they suppose the female victims were wearing. V disingenuous.

There are some disgusting excuses for human beings out there. It’s incredibly sad that that kind of behaviour has become acceptable in some contexts. There would have been universal approbation once.

It’s just asking people to pay back some of the support they receive.

How? How, exactly, @Noplansforsticks, when the benefits they have been receiving are being used for daily living? Do you somehow imagine that they have been able to squirrel it away somewhere, until the Good and Gracious hand them a low paid job? And how would they pay it back when in said low paid job? (Because I doubt very much that you think benefit claimants deserve a decent wage).

On the other hand an ever growing pile of flowers near where it happened, everyone interviewed by the BBC nearby in a state of shock/sorrow. I do think most people are normal decent human beings. That includes people with different political opinions. It's just in social media it's the loudest, most unpleasant people that hold a disproportionate appointment of sway. My personal opinion is that people with horrible souls are less likely to have friends/family and therefore have disproportionately more time to spend on social media etc. (I know that's ironic as I am posting on Mumsnet. But its about overrepresentation proportional to the general pop. Not total numbers).

I also think a lot of the FB/X accounts making the disgusting comments are probably bots. I hope so, anyway.

Responding - whether it is FB or MN - is the equivalent of pissing on a gremlin.

Well already know that AI can easily sign up to pretty much anything it wants to. and happily engage all day long.

Obviously there are trivial ways to prevent it.

Even more obviously, that's never going to happen.

One of my parents was always a proud Tory voter, loved Margaret Thatcher, anti-benefit and read the Telegraph etc. Teenage me was a lot more left wing than I am now. But when we were watching some bailiff show where they turned up to wvict someone for not paying rent and it was a young single mother who had been told to stay out by the council till evicted etc etc... my mum was quite teary about it. People can have very different views and not want to be cruel for cruelties sake. Or hate people. I think thats what makes Reform/Restore etc so grating. They absolutely are about being cunts for the sake of being cunts and preying on people's worst impulses. Hopefully long term it will be their downfall.

Eventually you are just stuck with bots replying to bots. Dead internet theory. But Meta and X need it to keep the value up.
