Why do you see it as exploitation?

It’s just asking people to pay back some of the support they receive. UC is not ungenerous and claimants who have been assessed as capable of work and work related activities are perfectly placed to do it. Not everyone on benefits is vulnerable.
The big majority of those not in full time employment are desperate to go back to work.

Maybe go and ask on the LiW threads - they've got some kind of ongoing paranoia about AI/ name-changing - it's not an issue here so you're wasting your time asking on this thread

They are de facto employed by DWP.

If someone is doing the work, why shouldn't they be paid the going rate?

If the work genuinely needs doing, why shouldn't it be fairly paid?

They’re not employed by anyone. That’s why they receive unemployment benefit, aka Jobseekers’ Allowance. They wouldn’t be seeking a job if they were employed and they’d be receiving NMW because it’s a legal requirement if you have a job. Of course you know all this.

People getting welfare because they are unemployed are looking for employment.

The benefits are to support them whilst they job hunt.

We had lovely light rain overnight and this morning - it also meant I got the first un-interrupted nights sleep for almost a week

A bloke from the Air B&B across the road has been sitting out on the pavement, most of the night coughing loudly and dragging his metal chair across the paving stones waking me up

Loud phonecalls at 3 am and listening to music on his phone have been additional bonuses

The rain thankfully kept him indoors - it was almost worthy of a thread

Of course @Notonthestairs understands perfectly, but they can’t come up with a sensible answer to the question because there isn’t one. There’s no reason that UC claimants shouldn’t receive a fair wage for work undertaken.
