Cleaning the oven.
Cleaning the car.

I get professional cleaners to do these for me because just no....life is too short.

OP posts:

Oven
Windows
Gutters
Jet washing
Car valeting
Cleaner/ironing
Gardener
Decorating

I thought I might do more when I retired, but on reflection, I don't want to do those things.

One more - I have someone position, trim and decorate the Christmas trees - I'd rather clean the oven.

Time and money are relative concepts. If you are time poor but cash rich, then it makes sense to pay to have your oven cleaned.

I like a clean over I definitely would not pay someone once a week for a half hour job!

YoQuieroVino · 25/07/2026 22:27

VivIsBlonde · 25/07/2026 22:22

Why pay someone when you can do it in half a hour yourself??
🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

Because I don’t want to do it myself.
I don’t want to clean my car or my oven. I pay sometime else to do it. I also pay someone else to clean my windows, and weed my garden.
Paying for these things puts money back into the economy. It keeps people in employment.

Deadringer · 25/07/2026 22:28

Ovens need to be cleaned?

VivIsBlonde · 25/07/2026 22:29

oohgoodcupofteanicky · 25/07/2026 20:29

Exactly. Like most people have the time or the inclination to clean the oven every sodding week!

It takes me half a hour!

Still don’t have the inclination 🤷🏻‍♀️

I once paid someone to clean my oven (not a euphemism). Best money I ever paid 😅

NCTDN · 25/07/2026 22:31

I really really want a robo vacuum and mop. I love how some of you call them him and her.
what make is good for it cleaning itself and generally working well?

Fab, that’s your choice! I spend mine on oven cleaning and holidays! We’re all happy 😃

I manage a once a year professional oven clean and a holiday!

I’d rather use my time weekly to read!

Pedant61 · 25/07/2026 22:36

I've never cleaned an oven, and I'm not sure it's ever been done. What is the point?

Yogaandchocolate · 25/07/2026 22:40

palorina · 25/07/2026 20:17

I have my grass cut regularly March to October. I pay to have my drive and back patio powerwashed. No, I am not doing either of those jobs. I don't use the oven much so that's not an issue with me.

Power washing is so fun though!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/07/2026 22:42

We have windows cleaned every month
I nag my son to clean the car
I do the oven, the glass doors slide out ( you cannot imagine how pleased I was to find this out)
I don't iron, my DH will do this though .
We have shopping delivered , I am quite pleased not to have to traipse round with a full trolley . It means if I do go to Sainsburys I can browse things I;ve overlooked as it's just for odd items maybe not on the delivery or I get FOMO .
I like doing laundry but not pairing up the pesky socks

mrsmacmc · 25/07/2026 22:43

Due to my acquired disability I’ve had to swallow my pride and outsource as much as monetary possible in an attempt to keep my ‘normal’ level of household standards, I hate it 🥴

Happyjoe · 25/07/2026 22:43

I'd love to have someone come and clean everything, deep clean the oven and kitchen. Do my huge pile of ironing that always just seems to grow.

But.. nervous cat. Don't do strangers in the house so we don't let people she doesn't know in.. I do like cleaning my car though. Warm summer day, clean, polish and on occasion hoover it. I've not done it so much where I am now as no drive and have to clean on a busy street.

I didn’t even know that you could outsource decorating your Christmas tree!

petitpasta · 25/07/2026 22:46

We outsource a whole lot of dull jobs - houseclean (£60/week), lawns (£30 / fortnight March - October), window cleaning (£15/month). I will never make puff pastry from scratch, even though I will happily make shortcrust pastry, meringues and other things from scratch. Ain't nobody got time for making puff pastry!!

Something I never do in my house is say "can you do <task> for me?" because it's not exclusively MY job. I will say "someone in this house needs to empty the dishwasher / start cooking dinner / <insert job>".

catspyjamas1 · 25/07/2026 21:30

Batshit. No one has time for this.

The people on compulsive cleaning TV shows do.

I'm surprised compulsive cleaners have time to watch cleaning prigrammes on the TV.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/07/2026 22:51

Our Eufy robot vac is unmitigated shite though . It sulks it's way round the bedroom, misses out the cat fur and sock fluff then gets stuck.
I try to re-route it -picking it up makes it sulk more .Still misses the cat fur/fluff
Then it announces it is done and scoots back to base .

I have to go round with the Shark vacuum and glare at the Eufy as I see just how much dust is in the cannister .
I have cleaned the roller , the filter and the dust collector and thrown the blasted thing into DS room . It can hide under his bed now .

desperatemum1234 · 25/07/2026 22:12

You’re lucky you can afford to hire people to do these tasks. Not everyone can.

Well, that's unfortunate for them, then, isn't it? What's the actual point of your comment?
OP, I outsource all domestic tasks, so cleaning, oven cleaning, car wash, etc. Life is too short.

BettyJoanPerske · 25/07/2026 22:57

VivIsBlonde · 25/07/2026 22:29

It takes me half a hour!

Half an hour a week cleaning the oven? No thanks, I have a life.

Laloubaloo · 25/07/2026 23:06

Wash things to recycle them. I think it's all a bit of a con to make councils look good and seem like they're 'contributing' while charging us more for it.
There's no way most bins and therefore lorries aren't 'contaminated' with incorrect rubbish. Massive countries are polluting up a storm but I'm expected to rinse a chicken packet and a yoghurt pot to save the planet? No.

I pay for an oven clean once or twice a year.

I won't ever home educate by choice.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 25/07/2026 23:10

My mother always says she would rather move house than clean the oven. I agree with her. I do occasionally pay someone else to do it, but I won't touch it.
