Chris Philp (Shadow Home Secretary) has now, finally, deleted this video.

It contained a number of (obviously) false claims based on his "research" which (deliberately or through incompetence) misinterpreted Home Office visa data.

The graph missed out May and June.

Whether it’s a great argument or not is irrelevant. It also won’t be true. But his core voters will believe it. They don’t believe anything that comes out of official sources - just what Farage tells them.

I think there has always been, and will always be a Farage core vote. And (like all core voters) they can generally be ignored. Granted this is a unique situation and as a single data point it's only of limited value.

It's the uncore but superficially attracted support that needs to be - and is being - peeled off slowly.

Thanks to Starmers and Bunhams best mate at 1,600 Pennsylvania Ave. the media space simply hasn't the space above the fold to drown us in tales of small boats. That and the rather unobliging weather, wildfires, earthquakes and other less important news, nobody is talking about small boats at the moment.

It's almost as if there are more important things on the agenda.

Why Badenoch's claim about last Tory government creating '14,000 new prison places' was misleading

At her press conference this morning, Kemi Badenoch said that the last Conservative government “created 14,000 new prison places”.

However, as the Press Association points out in a QuickCheck analysis, this figure on its own is deeply misleading.

PA explains:
Data from the government show that between May 2010 and April 2024, 14,142 prison places were added by building new prisons or adding more space in existing prisons.

However, there was a decrease in prison capacity of 13,660 in the meantime.
This meant that the overall number of prison places rose by 482 over that period.

When Badenoch talks about the last Conservative Government, is she referring to Sunak or Cameron? And the three subsequent prime ministers in between?
