@BIossomtoes have a look at this:

https://www.mysteryguides.co.uk/

These are a great way to experience a city, and especially a new city.

They're really well written, and just the right level of difficult to make it both enjoyable but also a challenge. Each one will take around 3 hours to complete, and you do a fair bit of walking. And usually pub stops are built in!

Also means that as long as it's not raining/snowing, the weather doesn't matter that much.

We've done loads of them now, with a couple of friends (IME they work best with 3-5 people), and in some cases used them as a way to have an overnight stay somewhere.

Those look brilliant. Thank you so much, it’s exactly the kind of thing that fires Mr B’s rockets, he’ll love them.

August born dearest child 3 is 25 tomorrow. Have a sister and cousin birthday also towards the end of the month.

BIWI · 01/08/2026 12:47

Our family 'horror month' is March - starts with DS1 at end of Feb, then goes:

BIL
DS2
Niece
Nephew
DH
Oz Niece1
Oz Niece 2

I claim Mother's Day in March as an honorary birthday so that I don't miss out Grin

@BIossomtoes the only one we haven't enjoyed as much was the Southampton one. Firstly because it turns out that the city is a bit of a shithole (with apologies to anyone who lives there!), but also because the clues weren't that great.

All the others - and we've done 12 of them now - have been much more enjoyable.

We’ll be going to cities within 2.5 hours drive of Cambridge so Southampton is definitely off the list!

Have already booked an event for late September to see a friend sing and perform. Can't wait to see it and will be seeing her before that anyway.

These look great!

Theres 3 near me so I think I’ll give one a chance as they are also wheelchair accessible and accessible by train which will get ds onboard!

Oh bugger that’s one of my local ones 🫣🤣

Maybe I’ll start with Winchester?

placemats · 01/08/2026 13:28

Went to one in Chester and it was alright. Not sure how accessible it was given part of it was in the walls.

According to the website there is alternative routes on some for accessible needs.

Although it says Edinburgh isn’t accessible full stop!

Wowsers, that's brilliant. My eldest sister and my late Mum is May.

Eldest child April, so it was either Easter or not. Second eldest child June - herself and her dad share birthdays within days of each other.

Edinburgh is difficult because it’s hilly and there are lots of steps

Efacsen · 01/08/2026 13:39

Hope you have a lovely holiday @DuncinToffee

Yeah ds has travelled there and Stirling for swimming. He said it was hilly.

BestIsWest · 01/08/2026 14:35

Both DC are February here along with DNeice and SIL among others. It cheers up a nondescript month. Along with Valentine’s Day of course haha.

placemats · 01/08/2026 14:37

Next year isn't a leap year so it's only 28 days in February and already shoots of spring are indeed springing.

cardibach · 01/08/2026 15:14

I’m a late October baby, then November has
sister
sister’s partner
two nieces
cousin.

I hate the cold. Makes me actually depressed. I’m odd 8n that I’d prefer the temp to stay in double figures even if it rained a lot. I can’t hack Jan and Feb at all. It gets a bit Narnia - always winter and never Christmas.

pointythings · 01/08/2026 16:16

I'm a February birthday and so is DS. DD is January, foster DS is May. I have no seasonal preference because all seasons are made good by the presence of cats.

BIWI · 01/08/2026 16:17

Well, of course!

When they go out onto the lawn after it's snowed and do that step, shake, step thing then look back at you with frowny ears, as if to say "What have you put all this stuff here for?" it does cheer up a wintery day.
