Scrabbling down the back of the sofa for tax today - I’ve borrowed from a friend in order to pay. This is Helga, a little dog my friend has been fostering for almost 18 months. She desperately needs a quiet, adult only, pet free home. She’s gorgeous and hilarious. (Also she loves her ducky).

I've claimed a council tax rebate so I can pay yous, now.

Those who promote the lazy line that the rich can always pay extra tax voluntarily are 'unwell' in the Jeffrey Bernard sense.

On a more serious note, and returning to a post from the end of the last thread - the issue of business tax on vape shops.

I haven’t seen this on the news today but how is it decided what shops aren’t “positive”?

I don’t smoke, I don’t vape, and I agree the constant vape shops are irritating. So if I were being selfish I wouldn’t care if they all disappeared, but it’s not really about that.

I’m just not sure about the government deciding what businesses are worthy and what aren’t? Does this already happen and it’s just passed me by?

(Also, I’m going to mention this once and not repeat it but I’m autistic and sometimes fail to see the wider picture, so apologies in advance if I’m missing the obvious…)

The 'taxes' are a nice way to place mark, I have no idea when it first happened, long before I started posting.

The foreign thread titles were introduced to keep not so genuine posters at bay. And it's a bit of fun.

I am paying my tax. These are figures made by Troublemaker games - wargaming shop.The Count Binface figure has been a huge success and has been endorsed by the great space alien himself. Sales are raising a large amount of money for NHS charities. I have no idea who the other bloke is - apparently his name is Lionel Garbage.And yes - I have ordered both figures and will ask my DH (who is a miniature figure painting extraordinaire) to paint them.

There used to be a vape shop a couple of doors down from me. It closed down and the note on the door cited spurious planning reasons for it. It's now my local pharmacy, which obtained the proper planning permission.

It's Sir Chris Bryant. The Irish diaspora is prevalent throughout the UK.

So far all these changes to reduce the cost of living have come out of the public purse.

How about some that rip-off businesses or those very profitable being required to change. Ending dynamic pricing for gigs/concerts, having broadband contracts not put up annual charges by greater than CPI, for example. There will be others.

Probably the only positive thing you can say about Luton apart from the easy ways of leaving.

All my test results came back normal so the good news is nothing indicates cancer but I still have a large lump in my stomach - lord knows why or what it is though! Waiting for GP to get back to me so I may find out in 2032 🤣

Seems like Burnham is off to a good start. He’s far more left wing than me but I live in hope someone is going to get it right for the country so wish him luck and hope his policies work out.

We've had a few vape shops, phone accessory shops and random minimarts and greengrocers closed down for selling illegal vapes under the counter. One re-opened as a butcher that happened to sell vapes and also got closed down. The "greengrocer" was also rumoured to be offering other "services" , upstairs.

So I'm wondering how the distinction will be made, too. No onw would argue against a greengrocer, unaware of a sordid and exploitative offering of "happy endings".

Can I join? I like a bit of general good natured politics.
