I love Autumn. I’m not a fan of the heat at all. I’m built for wind and rain. As Rhod Gilbert once said, ‘I grew up in Wales, I was 7 before I knew I could take my cagoule off.’.

Can we all agree that February is the longest month and should be banned?

No it's January!

I hate, hate, hate bringing forward the end of summer! This year the supermarkets/shops were heralding their 'back to school' uniforms, even before the kids had broken up for the holidays.

And yesterday, browsing the Tu section in Sainsbury's, they've already started putting out their autumn clothes.

Stop it!

Agree. Also I hate that on the 1st September there are threads about have you put the heating on yet? For the love of humankind, just stop it.

It’s February when I lose the will to live, it feels like spring is never going to arrive.

5128gap · 01/08/2026 11:16

I've made my peace with winter. I spent decades wishing three months of my precious life away to get to the good weather part. I've now reached a point where I'm wishing time would slow down rather than speed up. But I do hate the dark evenings.

placemats · 01/08/2026 11:25

It's still summer 🏝️ 🌞

Let's enjoy this glorious month.

The best thing about winter is Vivaldi four seasons and Winter is the best. My antipodean house mates bought it for me as a Christmas present 💞

Certainly that was how I felt this February, as it was non stop rain! How things have changed now.

I put it down to being born in August and spending a substantial part of my childhood in a Mediterranean country.

I’m also born in August! Also use to spend my whole summer camping in S of France from 11 and then working and living abroad (thankyou no Brexit!) aboard until I was past mid 20’s.

even when it’s 37° and we are working - while everyone else is burning I am just 🤷‍♀️. I think being pregnant until the end of August in Tenerife means it’s still not “hot hot” IME!

100%z

The month that has 794 days after payday and no more money to deal with it 🤣

Actually I get that. As a swim parent it’s the month I find hardest - I start longing for the lighter mornings to come.

Time can slow down as much as it likes from March to October then fast forward the rest of the year. That would work perfectly for me.

I never make it that far! By December I’ve lost it. I’m bookending winter with two trips this year - Rome in November and Porto in March. It’s enough to keep me sane. I’m also hoping that I’ll pick up some overtime over the winter to help the horrible weekends pass quicker.

TemperanceWest · 01/08/2026 12:05

I have learned to embrace winter to an extent, but when it rains non-stop it is very, very hard to stay cheery.

We usually do that. We can’t leave the UK for the foreseeable so next winter is going to feel eternal.

Argh, that’s rubbish, I’m sorry. Could you perhaps take a trip within the UK? I do find winter much more bearable when I’m spending as much time by the sea as possible.

Thank you. We are planning that but the weather … I love the feel of the sun on my face when it’s grim here. Anyway complaining won’t improve it.

The warmth of the sun in winter. A glorious feeling.

Hard agree! The only thing that stopped that awful 'February feeling' was the birth of DS1. Who very nearly became a leap year baby!

But I do agree, it drags on and on, even though there are fewer days in the month.

BIWI · 01/08/2026 12:20

Oh, and also another August birthday here! We'll have to have a thread party.

BIWI · 01/08/2026 12:23

@BIossomtoes have a look at this:

https://www.mysteryguides.co.uk/

These are a great way to experience a city, and especially a new city.

They're really well written, and just the right level of difficult to make it both enjoyable but also a challenge. Each one will take around 3 hours to complete, and you do a fair bit of walking. And usually pub stops are built in!

Also means that as long as it's not raining/snowing, the weather doesn't matter that much.

We've done loads of them now, with a couple of friends (IME they work best with 3-5 people), and in some cases used them as a way to have an overnight stay somewhere.

Very true.

I am hopeful for a crisp cold winter.
