There s a school of thought that they bought it on themselves by making Farage an MP in the first place.

Despite the whiny narrative, no one forced them to. Farage wasn't imposed on them.

I think it’s actually quite sad that the residents of Clacton feel abandoned by the other parties as they won’t be pawns in Farages game and that makes the residents bigger pawns.

However I also hope that signals a great downfall for him and his party.

It’s lose/lose for him. He either gets beaten by Binface or he gets sent back to the Commons and the investigation resumes. He’s fucked either way.

I repeat. This is how democracy works. No one forced Clacton to return Farage as an MP. And there were plenty of warnings about leopards eating faces before the election.

I feel sad for the 48% of the people who did their best to avoid Brexit. Especially now Brexit is a minority pursuit.

However the residents of Clacton don’t have the chance of having an MP from a decent party because it’s now Farage or Binface etc.

Yes, we love Binface and he’s been brilliant on the rounds. Some of his manifesto pledges are brilliant. But let’s be honest, none of us would choose him as an MP over Tory/LD/Lab.

They are the ones in the lose lose situation too - except someone is making those choices for their lives rather than suffering the consequences of their choices.

I don’t think anyone’s disputing that’s how democracy works.

Na dues, Brexit is another good example of that.

But just because that’s democracy for you doesn’t mean you can’t feel empathy for the outcome of that.

Binface would be 1000% better MP for Clacton. And I suspect that were he to win, he'd get a lot of soft support from most other parties as a total newbie.

Binface could be a good MP. Stranger things have happened. I think Farage will win though. I just hope his majority decreases.

Empathy isn't binary though. It's on a spectrum. And it wanes as it gets closer to people who are the authors of their own misfortune as a whole.

And believe you me, I have infinitely more empathy for the Reform voters of Clacton, and Brexiteers than they ever had for anyone who wasn't them. Lest we forget their crowing in their victory.

My dinner appears to be getting cold. Or, as in Fawlty Towers, "colder".

If he wins, he should be weekly checked in the local press as to what he's done for Clacton that week. Every week until the next election.

I feel more sorry for those in Northern Ireland 44% leave to 56% remain and Scotland 38% leave to 62% remain.
