As I recall, Labour also became over confident and had an ill advised rally celebrating a victory which hadn’t happened yet.

Whether that really played a part, who knows? The result was a major surprise at the time.

It was my first election, too, whilst I was studying a degree in Social Administration and French. (I just missed out in 1987.) And yes, I was gutted.

It was my first election I could vote in England, having moved from Ireland. I was very disappointed with the result but at least my MP, Ken Livingston, got relected.

I just missed out on the 92 election so 97 was my first one as we were doing our finals (4 year course). There was quite a good mood and feel-good factor!

I can remember the sense of disbelief in my cohort in 1992.

It was (at least for me) an abject lesson in the fact that the UK is a whole, and not just an extension of my bubble.

I think it was crucial. I remember watching Kinnock make that speech and thinking it was tempting fate. Major getting his soapbox out sealed the deal.

I got left off the electoral roll in 1992 and didn’t find out until my polling card didn’t arrive. My own fault as I should have checked I was on it apparently despite having filled in the forms and having voted from the same address previously. The compilation of register had been outsourced to a private company. The lad next door got two polling cards.
I was furious but nothing could be done. It’s not as if my vote made a difference as Labour had a 10,000 majority where I lived.

A vote is worth fuck all. Even if you (or thousands) are unlawfully prevented from voting there is no restitution.

Worth bearing in mind, when you hear how you must only effect change by the ballot box.

So the direction of travel is FROM Reform to LABOUR. Fuck to say about the Tories.

Looks more like Green to Labour to me.
