Not sure if this has made it on MN yet

New mad conspiracy theory just dropped.

(Answers: It's a GCHQ building, and I presume black paint and doors are available at B&Q.)

I have not only been evading tax but have not caught up on the last two threads yet. I blame beautiful Anglesey

Good news about Ed. A truly serious politician, with a clear agenda and determined to pursue it.

BestIsWest · 26/07/2026 20:40

Agree @BIWI. I’m a big fan.

BIWI · 26/07/2026 20:51

I 'met' him (aka was in a group of other people he was chatting with) at MN's 10th birthday party. Along with Sarah and Gordon Brown. Sarah Brown gave an amazing speech - Gordon was definitely second in command that night! GB was much more charismatic 'in the flesh' and Ed was definitely much more handsome than he comes across via the media.

On a totally shallow note, I am not hating the grey hair on him one bit.

Oh that’s very amusing.

Particularly from the BeLeave gang.
Possible to leave the largest trading bloc without issue, impossible for the PMs office to find & use an office outside of London.

TemperanceWest · 26/07/2026 18:55

And I don’t trust Palantir’s mate Streeting as far as I could comfortably spit a rat

I want you buy you a drink for that @cardibach

I do like gin…

BestIsWest · 26/07/2026 22:57

Oh and me too. A G&T is the best drink in the world. I don’t drink very often these days but I did have one in the Bar Americain in Amsterdam this week and it was delicious.

Kemi Badenoch has written to Andy Burnham to say the Tories are "happy" to work cross-party on reforming social care.... but only if he rules out the only two ways you could realistically pay for it (contributions from individuals, or higher taxes/borrowing).

She will vote for it if it's fixed for free?Confused

That's almost like the MiL who will lend you money for a deposit .... on her terms.

However, the difference here, is Kemi has no "money" with which to bargain.

She really is spectacularly dim.

Notonthestairs · Yesterday 09:52

Yeah, social care can absolutely be fixed for free with zero impact on anyone 😂
Blatantly cynical move to absolve themselves of responsibility.

Not surprising given they ducked the issue whilst in power (because of the age of their voters).

The Lib Dems are at least genuinely interested in this issue.

TemperanceWest · Yesterday 09:58

Badenoch acts as though she holds all the cards. Burnham can just say thanks, but no thanks.

She must be a nightmare to work with.

I suspect she is. Davey is a much better bet, particularly given his personal experience.

SerendipityJane · Yesterday 10:26

Shame the Tories didn't invite consensus on Brexit or the pandemic decisions.

(Although weirdly the MN line is to blame Labour far more than the Tories for lockdown. Exhibit "B" in the "You can't call them fucking stupid vs. #'bekind;" case that is often being heard in the court of my mind.)

Efacsen · Yesterday 10:56

So not just 'fixing' it on her terms - but intends to fight it

Tories and Reform UK tell Burnham they will fight any plan to reform adult social care involving tax rises

Badenoch will dazzle at PMQs as she thinks she does every week and Jenrick will keep asking the question "Where are we?"

DuncinToffee · Yesterday 11:19

Jenrick and Badenoch, both part of the government that did do fuck all about social care despite big promises.

Meanwhile, that nasty Andy Burham has set bus lane cameras to specifically catch Reform voters

https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/bus-lane-pensioner-fears-punished-33833492

There isn't a machine that can safely read this level of stupid. And I suspect the paper in running this story may not be doing Reform any favours.

Pensioner fears Reform UK sticker led to bus lane driving fine

Paul Lawrence said it 'bears the question' whether his political leanings were the reason he was fined for driving through a bus lane
