This cliff edge has caused massive issues in the nhs

It affects at most 3-4% of the population. There are definitely more massive issues to focus on.

There is plenty of advice how to avoid this 'cliff edge'

There are bigger problems to solve for the NHS

So, judging by the figures coming out things are turning in an upward trajectory. As predicted by Starmer when he became PM. He said it would feel worse at first but that in 2 years things would improve. That’s because he had a long term plan. It was derailed a bit by events but is coming good. But we couldn’t wait - or at least the PLP, Burnham and his cronies couldn’t. Makes me so angry.

Utterly pathetic comments that show the level of desperation to attack. Monday was a huge life event, probably up there with their wedding in terms of their life together as a couple, yet people moaned she wore an expensive dress for it. And the comments about her body were disgusting.

MN deemed that it didn't break talk guidelines.

But he did. He was very clear we wouldn’t see any measurable benefit for 2 years. People didn’t want to hear. That, or to wait, and the media kept on about no improvement. The ‘didn’t communicate’ is rubbish. There could perhaps have been more of a ‘story’, and there should have been action against misinformation and bias - but oh look! The person who should have acted on that, Lisa Nandy, is part of Burnham’s little gang. It’s just ridiculous.

Super late tax free PMK. Not impressed with Mamood & Streeting snickering over letting criminals out early. Find prospect of Streeting as Defense Sec in current climate quite worrying.

I've been repeatedly shocked by some of the things MN doesn't consider to break talk guidelines tbh.

That reminds me. Watching Badenoch at the last PMQs I realised she has the face of an absolute ball-breaker.

Now, I of course don't really think that. But it is OK to say that sort of thing according to MNHQ.

He can’t afford to play the long game. Starmer tried that - it was working, but nobody could be bothered to wait for it to really show. He needs to do big things quickly (which is actually what I had hoped Starmer would do with that stonking majority). No point in switching one long game for another slightly different one - though it’s interesting the Guardian seems to think it’s ok now it’s not Starmer doing it. They seem to have attacked him relentlessly.

I agree with @cardibach on this.

I reported a post that said they hope someone would kick the shit out of a particular set of jurors. Doesn't break guidelines.

Starmer did have a communication problem, it was not all down to the media.

His only problem with communication was that he isn’t a song and dance man. Sad we need one. 2 weeks? I seem to remember it being relentless even before the election.

Starmer didn't enjoy politics. I think most sane people don't enjoy politics for millions of perfectly sensible reasons. It's a grubby business. But to carry the weight of the office effectively you do have to get stuck in. There was poor relationship between the backbenchers and leadership, that can be improved upon. There was poor comms, that can be improved upon. And a PM willing to wrestle some control over policy from the Treasury, that can be improved upon.

I am very wary of this thread turning in to a version of That's Not My Prime Minister.

You took the words off my keyboard. I was (sad person that I am) thinking that this thread is veering into LiW territory as I stood in the shower. I know my role here is to be Pollyanna but surely a key part of a PM’s role is to make their government reelectable. Starmer’s personal unpopularity made that unlikely while Burnham stands a good chance. Does anyone here really want a one term government and another decade in the wilderness? Because I sure as hell don’t.

I agree and as I said earlier, the left needs to unite behind Burnham or just give up and let the right be in power for another decade or two.

I don't think our thread is veering onto LiW though. They refuse to criticise their leader about anything. That is not healthy either!

I’m very much not LiW. I’m very much it IS working so why fuck about? I’m willing to give him time but I’ll be very 🙄 if he basically does the same but woth eyelashes and is lauded as saviour of the world. That’s all really. I’m disappointed that being a media performer has become so important. Though I take the point about relationships with backbenchers.

Edit to add: Starmer’s pers9nal unpopularity is completely t(e creation if the media - they can, and will, do t( same to Burnham if they decide they want to.

I think I'm so conscious of how vital it is Burnham does well, I'm hypervigilent to anything that could go wrong. I feel like an over anxious parent willing their child to stand up straight and create a good impression.
I also spend more time than is good for me listening to the detractors and worrying about how they will recieve him.
The anxiety is getting in the way of the hope.
