Morning all. Had a bit of rain overnight which was nice although it already feels like it's getting a bit warm and humid. Have been out to post a couple of parcels and am about to go into the attic to empty out some drawers up there. Been up since 5am again so I think there'll be a nap before too long.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 26/07/2026 09:42

Morning.
Quite a bit of rain overnight & more showers forecast until late afternoon.
Definitely cooler & fresher.

TeaAndStrumpets · 26/07/2026 09:58

Morning all!

Just recovering from washing my hair. So I'm just waiting for my heart rate to come down. With all the advice you see online about exercising to raise your heart rate I wonder if it applies to a cfs/me crash in which case I must be superfit!

@TodayIsabetterone fingers crossed for your scan.

@Swanhilde I am so impressed by your creativity! Do you have a home for your mosaic? I have always loved the little tiled garden tables with mosaic tops. Maybe you could do mosaic on some terracotta planters/pots - that would be a lovely splash of colour in your garden!

@martha79 I like the sound of your attic, it reminds me of the song I used to sing to my DDs, O soldier soldier won't you marry me? where each verse she goes up to look in her grandfather's chest! Hope you have some useful stuff up there.

@CoffeeBeansGalore i think it is just perfect weather today, hope I'm not speaking too soon!

@MewithME Any pigeon update?

VikingNorthUtsire · 26/07/2026 10:08

Literally 10 minutes of rain here. It was lovely and left a gorgeous smell of petrichor, but I wish there'd been more! Fingers crossed.

My parents are arriving today for a visit. It's very tricky. I love them dearly but as they are elderly and I am unwell, neither of us is really well enough to host the other, or easily travel to visit (we are about 3 hours' journey apart). Bless my DH who is making beds, shopping and generally taking on all of the hosting duties.

I fear this having guests isn't the most sensible thing right now as my energy levels are tricksy. But I miss my mum and dad ๐Ÿ˜”

Swanhilde · 26/07/2026 10:20

@TeaAndStrumpets it's a table top, hence why it's so big! And yes, once I'm done I'll see what tiles I have left and definitely put them to good use โค๏ธ

MewithME · 26/07/2026 10:39

@VikingNorthUtsire I've never heard that word before...petrichor. that's great!

Yea, a bit of rain overnight and quite cool Nd fresh this morning. I am on a go slow. Very tired indeed but must pop to the supermarket.... We go on our holiday next weekend so don't want to buy much but needs a few bits plus some more birthday cards (everyone's at once in our family)and wrapping paper for DS! )

@TeaAndStrumpets poor pidge is still sat on the egg on the grass. I am worried it'll be attacked by a cat. So sad. I thought she gave up. I'm sure the embryo can't still be alive ๐Ÿ˜ญ

@VikingNorthUtsire hope you have a lovely time with your parents!

@MewithME poor Pidge wouldn't last two minutes in our garden. We have a fox family who seem to live on pigeons. We often see a pathetic pile of feathers on the lawn. I suppose at least it's quick ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

TodayIsabetterone · 26/07/2026 11:46

Morning all,

Oh poor pidge @MewithME ๐Ÿ˜•

Hope the visit goes well @VikingNorthUtsire Its hard when youโ€™re not really well enough but you desperately want to see them. I understand that very well.

well done on washing your hair @TeaAndStrumpets

Good luck in the attic @martha79 ours is always quite the trip down memory lane!

@CoffeeBeansGalore glad itโ€™s fresher. It is here too though only the briefest spot of rain.

@Swanhilde thats a perfect mindset to aim for, focus on what you can do, not what you cant. I try and do the same as much as I can. That really is going to be a beautiful table and will bring you so much joy ๐Ÿ˜Š

Home from my early start to hospital and scan done and dusted. It was a bit trickier than previous scans as they really struggled to get a canula in and my veins kept collapsing probably as Iโ€™m on blood thinners now ๐Ÿ˜• The radiologist explained that they needed to put a smaller one in which may blow out when they flush the dye through so if it started to burn I had to shout quickly and theyโ€™d stop the scan! Not the most relaxing of scenarios as they weโ€™re constantly shouting through to check it was okay He seemed very relieved when it flushed through without incident as was I!

So DH stopped at a little fancy coffee place on the way home and we treated ourselves to coffee and a Danish. Plus a mooch in the next door charity shop so was a nice end to the morning. Iโ€™ve decided to make an effort to do something nice, just for me each week to fill up my cup so to speak. All my energy goes on what I need to do rather than what I want to do and itโ€™s so important to find some little sparks of joy somewhere, however small.

TeaAndStrumpets · 26/07/2026 11:58

@TodayIsabetterone so glad all went well. Such a good idea to try and and do a small thing for yourself every week.... a cup of coffee and a little mooch is good for morale!

VikingNorthUtsire · 26/07/2026 12:35

Oh @TodayIsabetterone that sounds nerve-wracking but glad it all worked out in the end. Fingers crossed for a good result.

Scan day is always coffee and cake day here. I found my notes from counselling a couple of years ago and I have written down "acknowledge yourself when you have been a brave soldier"!

Little treats and glimmers of joy are so important. I'm trying to work out a list of things that I can do that are minimal cost in terms of energy but bring happiness. I think we all need it.

TodayIsabetterone · 26/07/2026 13:55

Oh I love that phrase from your notes @VikingNorthUtsire I shall congratulate my myself on being a brave soldier! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Itโ€™s finding things that are manageable isnโ€™t it in terms of energy. A list is a good idea, love a list! Iโ€™ve been setting myself goals since my stroke every few weeks which has been really helpful and good to see some progress but mostly practical goals like managing to walk without a stick, manage the stairs, shower independently etc.. now Iโ€™m doing better physically, I can start to think in terms of what will help my mental health and bring a bit of joy!

I think my next goal is to take the dog to a dog field we found in the forest. It was very quiet and peaceful and a bench for me so not too exhausting physically and something I really loved when I went before all the recent illness!

Swanhilde · 26/07/2026 17:40

Have had a lovely slow Sunday โ˜€๏ธ

Tidied a bit in the garden, had an afternoon nap and then a shower and my weekly hair wash ๐Ÿšฟ

DH is now cooking a curry ๐Ÿ˜‹

Hope everyone has had a good day ๐Ÿ’•

martha79 · 26/07/2026 18:56

@MewithME poor pidge baby, I hope it survives.

@TodayIsabetterone glad your appointment went alright.

I have emptied the attic! It's actually a converted attic room with a single bed in it, but the couple of times I tried sleeping up there it was either far too hot or too cold so it had just become a dumping ground. Did a bit of other clearing out/ packing and then had a dizzy spell which seems better after a nap.

Watched a silly period drama film called 'Mr Malcolm's List' (like Bridgerton-light) and am now catching up with Ghosts which I loved watching when it was first on but haven't seen the last couple of series.

FuzzyPuffling · 26/07/2026 20:39

We were in church this morning- I was singing in the band. Then DD2 and two grandchildren came over for tea and biscuits, a chat and a game or two.
I'm worn out now!

FuzzyPuffling · 26/07/2026 20:40

@martha79, we loved Ghosts and tried the Australian version earlier. Nope, missed by a country mile!

TeaAndStrumpets · 26/07/2026 20:53

@FuzzyPuffling you've just saved me a wasted evening by warning me about the Australian Ghosts! I actually enjoyed the American version, it definitely grew on me.
@martha79 i just can't remember watching Mr Malcolm's List because I read the book ages ago, so the film is obviously not too memorable. Mind you TV Bridgerton is actually better than the books! They were good with characters and plot but quite badly written. Mind you, I will read anything with bonnets in so I am not one to judge!

TodayIsabetterone · 26/07/2026 21:02

Aw thatโ€™s a shame about the Australian version of Ghosts @FuzzyPuffling I saw it on Iplayer and thought about trying it.

Fatigue and pain have hit with a vengeance. Iโ€™ve slept all afternoon, watched one episode of something with DH and had to give up and come back to bed.
Left arm ( my dodgy one) is very painful and has a massive purple bruise all the way down it already thanks to this mornings events. Itโ€™s going to be a corker for sure! Might have to cover it for MILs visit tomorrow as I only tell her medical stuff on a need to know basis as she means well but does have a habit of saying the wrong thing!

It'll probably take a day or so to settle down, consider yourself convalescent for a few days. At least the scan is behind you now!

I'm at a loose end tomorrow so I've made myself a very long list of things I must organise. I gave up after a page, I think I'll just delegate! We are going to be terribly busy in the run up to Christmas but I just can't think at all. I have bought my Christmas cards though! The presents will be another long list. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

MewithME · 26/07/2026 22:03

Been absolutely wiped out today. Some rest but maybe not enough. Managed to wrap DS birthday presents this evening and remembered when get balloons too. .last minute thought.

It's always such an effort ๐Ÿ™ˆ I am my own worst enemy. Obsidian set expectations too high throughout childhood...I am stuck with it all now ๐Ÿ˜‚ Bless him he's a soppy little noodle.

He broke his moneybox in an accident a month ago and was heartbroken. I managed to glue it back together though there is a piece missing and it's a bit delicate, so it's only an ornament now, but I think he'll be happy. He does know I've done it.

Sorry not keeping up with the chat too well this weekend. Hope your parents visit went ok in the end @VikingNorthUtsire . It's very hard.

Going to check on pidge. Feeling v sad for it. Hoping I don't find it dead from a cat. Still sat on the egg. It can't hatch the egg on the ground surely? I really don't think the embryo can be alive still.

Some corkers of autocorrect there... obsidian...no idea what that was meant to be. Bedtime for me I think ๐Ÿ™ˆ

I did wonder if Obsidian was your DS name @MewithME . One that would go down well here on the Baby Names boards I think!

TeaAndStrumpets · Yesterday 08:08

Morning all!

I am back to my list. As I fell asleep last night I suddenly thought "Must remember..." as I zonked out, but the thought has vanished so it was either a toilet or a light fitting, who can say?

I hope young Obsidian has a lovely birthday @MewithME and I am sure he will like his refurbished money box. I use Google lens a lot to identify things so maybe it could find you another one the same. Although I know quite often it's the sentiment associated with that exact object that's important and a replacement isn't the same.

Yes a good day to all. Pidge may be disappointed but she's obviously doing her poor best!
