Thanks for your thread admin as ever @MewithME

Had a low energy day today - managed a small walk but felt quite wobbly, did a bit of housework (cat litter trays needed doing before the bins go out), had a nap. I've got two friends visiting separately tomorrow afternoon and evening (why can't people's availability be more spread out?! ๐Ÿ˜‚) so hoping to be a bit livelier tomorrow.

Currently waiting for an Amazon delivery that says it might be as late as 9.45, don't they know that's past bedtime? But it contains my rechargeable hot water bottle, so that's exciting.

Edited

I sat down to watch Ludwig episode 2, cuddling my electric hot water bottle, but nodded off and missed most of it! A double whammy of soothing, it was just too much for me ๐Ÿ™„

Very cosy! My hot water bottle is here and heated up - thanks for the recommendation ๐Ÿ˜€

Nice! I got the grey - colour coordinating with my bedroom furniture (and shows less cat hair than other colours ๐Ÿ˜‚).

I watched episode two of Ludwig too though given up with TV and headed to bed. Since my shoulder has flared again I just canโ€™t get comfortable on the sofa, keep trying various corners with various cushions but the pain seems to get worse. Probably a combination of a hard sofa and itโ€™s the end of the day. I did try my V pillow from the bed tonight which meant I managed a whole episode without grumbling and moving positions too much so I need to remember that!
Iโ€™ve done over a week of increasing pregablin as GP suggested and taking max dose of paracetamol every 4 hours yet itโ€™s really no better. Getting me down tonight, just isnโ€™t settling and Iโ€™ve another month before my stroke follow up. Sorry to moan but itโ€™s so exhausting dealing with constant pain.
Decorator needs to do another couple of hours in the morning just to finish off. Heโ€™s going to spruce up the banister while heโ€™s here as it uses the same paint so that will be good but I kind of just want to stay in bed and I canโ€™t really!

That sounds miserable, sorry you can't get comfortable. I just want to burn our sofas they are rock hard. My bargain Gumtree leather recliner is really comfortable. I'm just using it as an armchair, slightly reclined so it doesn't push my neck forward, and the lumbar support is good. It does have a matching footstool but I have found the ottoman is a nice height. Trial and error! I had been seriously considering a proper upright armchair for old people but couldn't bear the embarrassment ๐Ÿ˜Š Our house is dated enough.

There was a poignant TV advert a few years ago featuring a cat miaowing round an evidently empty old person's house and this charity was offering to look after kitty when the owner was dead. I thought Blimey the decor looks rather like ours!! New house will be very tasteful, I've got loads of paint swatches at the ready, and books about home decor. Gives me something to think about on bad days.

It sounds as if you'll soon be free of your decorator, then you can properly relax!

TodayIsabetterone · 21/08/2026 22:51

Thanks @TeaAndStrumpets I tried to delete that post as when I re read it, it felt like I was just moaning but itโ€™s hard when you just canโ€™t get comfortable. Meds, heat bags and my comfy bed have helped a bit so hopefully will nod off soon!

That made me chuckle about the advert reminding you of your decor ๐Ÿ˜€ How lovely to be able to think about the decor in the new house tbough, a blank canvas!

Our decorator has done an excellent job. Itโ€™s almost made me want to get my room done! Only almost tbough ๐Ÿ˜€ I canโ€™t face any more decluttering right now.

Aghhhh my anxiety and intrusive thoughts are driving me up the wall. I know they are period and hormone related and I can usually keep a lid on them, I know that they'll be gone in a couple of days. I have techniques to keep them at bay the rest of the month but for a few days they are absolutely awful. I hate this shit.

MewithME · 22/08/2026 08:14

Ahhh @Oioiqueen I've always suffered with hormonal shifts like that... Think I'm done with periods now... hooray menopause...or something like that. I would have full on sobbing, crazy days and then it would be like the sun coming out and I was fine again.

I could never take the pill...sent me crazy and blood pressure through the roof.

Hope it passes quickly for you.

I have been having a spell or bad sleep and weird dreams. I'm feeling absolutely terrible again this morning. It's strange... I usually have more energy in the morning and then I'm exhausted by evening but the last few days, I've been waking up feeling absolutely dreadful then gradually feeling a bit better before bed. I think I'm in a crash but this aspect is weird.

I have a stuffy nose when I wake up too. No other symptoms so it can't be a virus. Tinnitus is bad today too.

Ah well, my visitors are coming this evening so hoping won't be too late and I will cope. Going to stay in bed this morning at least.

I used to get hormonal shifts but I never felt this bad until a year or so ago. I imagine it's coming up to the big 4-0 and shift in hormones towards perimenopause potentially. I'm really trying not to be hard on myself. Chemo took my periods away initially, then my thyroid went under active so made them go even more wonky and now I'm off chemo and thyroid managed my body is just like WTAF I guess? I'll get there just felt really tired and jittery last night. Still not 100% but I'm sure it'll pass soon enough as you say.

I hope you pick up before the end of the day in time for your visitors.

martha79 · 22/08/2026 09:40

I'm sorry @Oioiqueen it's a horrible feeling - I ended up on the mini pill partly because it more or less stops my periods and I don't get that hormonal influence on anxiety. I did get the implant years ago and that made my moods horrific! Still do a lot of breathing/ guided meditating/ distracting through anxiety...

Having a quiet morning here as meeting a friend for a cuppa this afternoon, just at the cafe at the end of my street. Other friend who was meant to come this evening has rescheduled to tomorrow morning, which is good. We're going to attempt to finally build my bed!

TodayIsabetterone · 22/08/2026 11:37

Ahh Iโ€™m so sorry @Oioiqueen Intrusive thoughts at night are awful. Plus hormones are awful. Like you say, you know it will pass but doesnโ€™t always help when youโ€™re in the midst of it.

I definitely found peri menopause worse than actual menopause @MewithME It also helped with headaches/ migraines for me. I still get them occasionally but nothing like the way they used to be. Sorry itโ€™s a rough day.

Hope you get the bed built @martha79

Ive had tears already this morning as woke in pain at 5 and had already had the max amount of paracetamol yesterday so had to hang on a few hours. Utterly frustrated and fed up of it. Currently hiding in the lounge with the dog as the decorator is here but once heโ€™s finished I may just take codeine and try for a sleep.

MewithME · 22/08/2026 11:57

@TodayIsabetterone so sorry you're in pain... And waiting for the decorator to go. I hate having tradies in though I desperately need it. It's so exhausting because you can't go to bed or rest.

I've had a slow start. Had a quick shower and now feel like shaky jelly.... The calm before the storm. It is blissfully peaceful right now. Sun shining but not too hot. Lying on sofa with the patio doors wide open. Going to have a slow cuppa and then might watch something. I think reading is beyond me today. Need to lie down.

@Swanhilde is your kettle on?

Hope you are all as ok as you can be. Don't forget next thread is ready in case I conk out and this one fills.

TeaAndStrumpets · 22/08/2026 15:51

Hi all thought I'd better pop into this thread to help fill it up!

I've been helping clear kitchen cupboards (well, supervising) if plastic food bag clips were Bitcoin I'd be rolling in it. I think I've stocked up too often! The cupboard under the sink was particularly archaeological.

Our DD2 isn't coming due to maybe infectious child, but a couple of friends are coming tomorrow so it's not such a quiet weekend.

On Monday DD1 is coming with DGS so we can be his pretend audience. His gcses were a shitshow as expected but he's auditioning for a music access course for September. I hope he gets a place, school was such a horrible experience for him a fresh start would be great.

My eyelids are peeling due to eczema, I look a real sight. I am allergic to every lotion for cleaning them and have gone back to just water. They are covered in Lucas Pawpaw ointment at the moment. It is basically vaseline but it is our go-to for chapped hands, or anything really.

@FuzzyPuffling I was surprised not to see you on the Baby names thread. Several people couldn't see why Jonah was an unlucky name! I mentioned the Bible and the Beano but nobody cares. Very very tempted to suggest Basalt of course, but have restrained myself ๐Ÿ˜‚

TeaAndStrumpets · 22/08/2026 15:52

What what what??

TeaAndStrumpets · 22/08/2026 15:55

Think I've been banned.

TeaAndStrumpets · 22/08/2026 15:55

Goodbye Cruel MN.

TeaAndStrumpets · 22/08/2026 16:11

Honestly when you think about the frightful things people talk about on MN why am I banned?

TeaAndStrumpets · 22/08/2026 16:12

Ooh, I'm back! Thankyou, thank you!

Oioiqueen · 22/08/2026 16:19

@martha79 unfortunately I can't take the mini pill well I used to be not be able to due to my breast cancer risk. Although I guess it doesn't make any difference now as my cancer isn't hormone fed. I'm not sure how much it would help now anyway. I took it before my genetic diagnosis years ago and it really didn't agree with me. It's bizarre how different everyone is when taking it to whether it is lifesaving or makes people worse. Did you bed go up ok?

@TodayIsabetterone i found the counselling really helped with them and have me some good techniques. I just felt really overwhelmed by those feelings last night and I became quite scared of them. I managed to do the breathing techniques which was enough to get me asleep in the end. Did the codeine help for your pain? Sounds really miserable for you this morning.

@TeaAndStrumpets eyelids sound really painful.

martha79 · 22/08/2026 16:33

What did you do @TeaAndStrumpets?! ๐Ÿคฃ Your poor eyelids, I hope they ease off soon.

@Oioiqueen it's so weird how we have the same hormones but they affect us differently. Bed-building is tomorrow, today has just been a coffee, chat and a wander in the park, which was very nice.

On the sofa now with a purry cat, debating what to make for tea.

I've noticed on MN it almost seems the law that everyone should be on HRT. I had a patch for 5 years after my hysterectomy in an effort to prevent osteoporosis, but it made no difference. I had vagifem pessaries for a year or so then my GP said it was only a short term thing. Mind you, she was a cow.

The sore eyelids are a regular thing when I'm in a crash, everything flares up. I thought of that when you said about your congestion and tinnitus @MewithME
