DH and I binge watched "Ann Droid" and we both really enjoyed it. Very perceptive and funny, but it says a lot about society and older age.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 25/07/2026 15:46

@TeaAndStrumpets

My Mil queried in a roundabout way whether dd2 was dh's ๐Ÿ™„.
"Well I don't know who she looks like but it's none of mine".
She was & still is the image of me.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 25/07/2026 15:49

And just to clarify, there is no way she could be anyone elses!

Oh my goodness such cheek!

I think my MIL expected clones of her dear son, I was the lucky gestational carrier. We do treasure some of her dafter sayings, like telling me that bottle feeding would be more convenient because "you can always take a bottle with you"...as opposed to me carelessly leaving my boobs on the mantelpiece.

My poor DH wasn't allowed to drink tap water until he was 7, not bottled but boiled and cooled. No wonder he ran far and fast when he got the chance. It was too much.

I was the evil girlfriend spoiling his life. MIL confided in a friend's Mum "Well I suppose it could be worse, at least she's not black." ๐Ÿ™„

martha79 · 25/07/2026 16:21

I started Ann Droid but it was a day I was feeling particularly rough and sorry for myself, and I just thought "oh no, I'm going to end up all alone with a robot carer" ๐Ÿ˜ณ Must give it another go.

Packing continues... got a friend coming round in a bit to help squish things into vacuum bags.

Oh how lovely to see @Stressybetty and @FuzzyPuffling too. We were saying this week how you suddenly realise you havenโ€™t seen someoneโ€™s name for a while.

Oh silly pigeon @MewithME ๐Ÿ˜‚

Blimey the MIL comments @CoffeeBeansGalore & @TeaAndStrumpets ๐Ÿ˜ณ Makes mine seem positively tactful ๐Ÿ˜‚ She does always comment on how certain talents or traits come from their side of family which used to drive me nuts! She was thrilled that my DS is like a clone of DH and was always sending me pics of DH at similar ages ๐Ÿ˜‚ My DD is more of a mix of both us but she doesnโ€™t like to admit that and ponders who she looks like!

Aw @martha79 I can understand you need to be in the right mindset for Ann Droid! I reluctantly had carers for a while so understand it can be a bit of a depressing subject but I do like Diane Morganโ€™s dry humour!

Im trying to remember if I watched the latest season of the capture after hearing people talk about it! I know I watched 2 seasons and not that long ago so is this a third? Quite worrying I donโ€™t know if Iโ€™ve seen it or not ๐Ÿ˜‚ My DH is the same so I donโ€™t feel too bad!

Itโ€™s a bit silly but easy to watch! Hope you like it.

JewelleryCat · 25/07/2026 18:30

Iโ€™d like a robot to do the housework! Not a roomba but an actual robot. I think in places like China and Japan, they either have or are developing robots to help in the house

MewithME · 25/07/2026 18:58

Those robots from Boston dynamics absolutely creep me out @JewelleryCat ...
I think my limit is my ๐Ÿค– hoover, my ai wash cycle and Alexa.

I do feel lonely often though. Maybe I will end up with a robot carer and it'll be less scary than a total stranger who comes and goes.

I've been watching Trying which is very sweet but it is making me feel lonelier. I know it's not real life but I would have loved a nice husband and more of a family. I feel a bit of a mess at life.. I have been craving a rest and some me time and now I feel alone and bored. MEcfs really does suck.

Aneeeway..I am going to have an ill advised glass of wine and a takeaway is ordered. Too tired to cook.

Has anyone tried magnesium powder (sorry not kept up with the threads). I had that trial of Healthy Metal dissolvable magnesium glycinate and it did help me relax and sleep better. Didn't want to pay and have found a tub of flavoured on Amazon instead. Just need to remember to take it earlier at night as it makes me wake up drowsy otherwise.

It is season 3 - it starts with a Russian spy trying to get through airport security if that rings any bells. There is an assassination in the first episode. Very unlikely stuff but entertaining!

TeaAndStrumpets · 25/07/2026 20:11

@MewithME Everything is so "Smart" these days. I've been looking at parcel/mail boxes and you can get one which connects to your wifi. The postman is supposed to press a button which connects to an app on your phone, then you remotely open the parcel section and he can scan a barcode inside for you to 'sign' for it. The time has now come when a mailbox is smarter than me!

Luckily I have found a dumb mailbox which uses a key. Phew.

Swanhilde · 25/07/2026 20:13

I cannot believe that I have knackered myself by making an (admittedly large) mosaic! I literally spent a couple of hours this morning sitting on my arse, rearranging tiles .... Came over breathless all of a sudden, followed by crushing fatigue ๐Ÿ˜ก

Had to take myself off to bed and then slept for a few hours this afternoon ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

And it's not even finished! I will have a day off tomorrow and regroup on Monday, when I will pace myself - grrrrrr, it's so frustrating ๐Ÿ™„

What are you up to today if you have a chronic illness ๐Ÿงต10! Summer Edition ๐ŸŒž
TodayIsabetterone · 25/07/2026 20:25

Ahh itโ€™s beautiful @Swanhilde but sorry itโ€™s caused a crash. Do you think itโ€™s the concentration involved maybe? So frustrating as creativity and doing something you enjoy is so important. Rest up and be proud of what you've created.

Ahh thanks @TeaAndStrumpets The airport security scene is ringing bells so I think weโ€™ve seen it!

@MewithME Itโ€™s tough when you need peace and quiet with ME/CFS but then itโ€™s lonely spending so much time alone. Sorry youโ€™re feeling that way but hope you can enjoy your wine and takeaway.

MewithME · 25/07/2026 20:52

Thanks. I've gone to bed. I managed to change sheets earlier so it feels nice. I am rewatching the good fight...I need comfort TV. I like familiar characters and long running series without much stress but with less mush as I don't have mush in my life ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Hello @Stressybetty, nice that you're back! I haven't tried powder but I take capsules at bedtime (which are just powder in a shell, I guess). I get the Vitawell ones from Amazon and they do seem to help a bit with sleep

I've spent the evening vacuum-packing all my winter jumpers, coats and spare bedding. The most fun I've had in ages ๐Ÿคฃ

TodayIsabetterone · 25/07/2026 21:57

Nice to have clean sheets @MewithME Also in bedโ€ฆ. really knackered today despite a nap this afternoon.

Would like an early night as got to be up early to travel for my scan tomorrow and I can hear someone having a party or something going on with loud music ๐Ÿ™„ Hopefully Iโ€™ll nod off with earplugs.
Iโ€™m glad I havenโ€™t had too long a wait for this scan but not looking forward to it as itโ€™s a busy hospital and wears me out. Plus they inject a dye which can make you feel a bit weird. Ah well, it will be over tomorrow! The one good thing is hopefully at 8 am on a Sunday the traffic wonโ€™t be its usual nightmare!

Also use magnesium capsules at night which Iโ€™m sure helps sleep and general muscle aches. Good itโ€™s helping a bit.

DH said that it might be the concentration needed and you're probably both right โค๏ธ

Am reframing my thinking today and being grateful for what I can do (in small chunks) not what I can't. It rained last night so my plan is to do a bit of garden tidying with lots of rests in between ๐ŸŒผ

But for the moment I am in bed with a cuppa โ˜•

Have a restful Sunday all ๐Ÿ’•
