My three kids have very ordinary names but I did have a slightly odd Cornish surname at the time, that needed offsetting.

I know it feels somehow unfair to mock them!

Still on baby names. Why do people want to choose a nick name for their child? Surely that just happens? Or not?

You should be able to buy off setting for names like you can for biodiversity net gain. You could go by a different name for a while, and someone miles away would be known as Esmeralda Snot, say, on your behalf.

I would just donate my surname for free, and be known as Mrs Woman.

Great idea! I did change my surname to that of my great grandmother.

"Mrs Woman" is the name of my dressmaker's mannequin!

Hello everyone! Been out first thing to M&S for DH to pick up some holiday clothes and me to have a mooch. It was chilly and I had to wear a cardi! Don't get to go to an actual clothes shop very often, but I was restrained and only bought 2 cards, a block of feta cheese and some v decadent cookies for DD ☺️

Also resisted coffee so came home and had one in the garden instead. Then I did some glueing on the mosaic. No brain power needed, moving myself around the board and being v careful not to stretch my arms 🤞

The day is warming up so I've come inside now for a rest and a cuppa ☕

Don't envy your move @martha79 . I know it wasn't through choice but I'm in awe of your organisational skills 💪

Obsidian, Sid for short, would be a lovely name for a black cat, and his ginger brother Carnelian, Neil. I don't know what colour Basalt is, so the system may have broken down if it's a non cat colour.

I called my guineas Piggy and Wiggy, not imaginative I know, but it did suit them.

Having a lovely day here, it rained in the night, and I have done an online art course module this morning. Still looking like daubs and blobs rather than art, but I am still enjoying it. Put it this way, I can only improve.

Number 3 DS is coming for a visit later today, it will be lovely to see him. He is a very quiet and calm presence. We've got 5 between us, 3 x DS and 2 x DDs. All very different from each other.

Basalt could be a dark grey tabby?

My guinea pigs as a kid mostly had Hobbit names! Mind you, I also knew a boy called Peregrine.

Thanks for the support re the move. I am naturally an extremely organised person, which is helpful but also frustrating when I've had to do things according to the whims of illness at times. Today has been half-successful - bed came, I built one of the two clothes storage units I got for the bedroom (photo attached, just from Amazon but it's quite sturdy - going to attach the drawers on the opposite side on the other one so they sit together in the middle). Mattress not delivered though - they phoned and said they tried, but I'm not convinced as I was keeping an eye out on the street and did not see a big van. I'm not totally sure the doorbell is working but last time they rang to see if I was in. Anyway, we try again on Thursday... just hoping the sofa bed moving goes ok on Wednesday or I'm going to have to sleep on a bean bag.

Back at old house (which I suddenly no longer want to call 'home'). Going to lie down for a bit then try a bit more packing.

@Swanhilde you have inspired me to get creative. On a much smaller scale though!
I mentioned it to a friend and we had a browse online at diamond art. Anyone who had kids early 2000s will remember hammer beads. This is posh hammer beads with a painting by numbers slant for adults. Will get dd to order a starter kit from Amazon for me.

@TodayIsabetterone such a pain about the cooling fan. Hopefully has a year guarantee you can activate for a replacement.

@TeaAndStrumpets if the thought was a toilet one I can recommend the "comfort height" or taller toilet. Makes getting up so much easier if mobility is an issue.

We also have "comfort height" toilets, which we put in when we moved here. I am now utterly amazed at how very low "ordinary" toilets are.
Make life easier, whenever you can.

@CoffeeBeansGalore we have ordered Victorian style toilets for aesthetic reasons so I think they're OK! It all makes my head hurt.

@FuzzyPuffling I swear the "normal" are getting smaller! Unfortunately with my mobility issues I just can't do the low ones. My thigh muscles are the ones I constantly have to work to even maintain any strength.at all. Sometimes even with the rails I struggle. It's rather disheartening.

@CoffeeBeansGalore I'm not to be trusted with decor because I have no taste so am trying to be plain and boring with toilets and tiles and have some colour on the walls. If it's awful I can change it later!

Love the cat name idea! Does anyone else know the children’s book ‘ Six Dinner Sid’ about a black cat…. Used to be one of my favourites! Think I’ve just found my future cats name. 😛
