I saw a Telegraph headline this morning saying 'income taxes to be devolved to mayors' and just thought how TF will that work??

As much as I'd enjoy the ultimate downfall, it will be all of us that feel the pain of the process.
Oh well - not like I have any control over it, might as well try and relax.

My money’s on Burnham’s day tomorrow being a damp squib.

Powell said today that he’d stick to the manifesto but be bolder. You’d have to be very gullible to think that Starmer and Reeves played it timidly on the manifesto.

So it’s got to be one of two things: he’s going to signal radical change way beyond the manifesto - highly unlikely since all of that would cost a lot of money, far more than he could raise in tax without turmoil; or he’s going to talk radical change and do some meaningless tinkering. The second seems much more likely.

Burnham is giving strong signs of being a political huckster.

Yes the bolder line sounds like further and faster.

It’s all just words to people now. Endless rehashing of luke warm soundbites.

I don’t mind if it’s a few smaller things, give us a break for a bit from Labour ‘game changers’ which have all been bad.

I heard that, but again, I wasn’t sure if he was just saying it because it gets him higher up the algorithm or something. Or he’s gone to Florida temporarily.

I don’t mean any disrespect to him and I can totally believe that he got death threats. It’s just that he could be gaming the algorithm as well. I mean Tommy Robinson claimed that he left the UK for the same reason, didn’t he, so who knows. He then happily came back for the UTK rally so it’s all a mystery.

Amplified music has been banned outside Downing St, and onlookers will be restricted to the other side of the road. Steve Bray has said that he won't be blasting his stupid music into Downing St today when AB arrives.

So pleased about Starmer going, this thread was brilliant as a vent during his awful tenure. After that unnecessary and final speech is over he’s out yeh.

Scrap the triple lock, reverse the cancellation of the child benefit cap, stop foreign aid to countries that won't take back their criminals (basically everyone that has broken into this country) & sort out fiscal drag. People on less than £100k should be on the basic tax rate.

Taking that report as there or thereabouts, it’s really striking how poor Labour is.

If Cooper says no to a lesser job they’ll be left only with Healey, McFadden and Reynolds as reassuring figures (jury’s out for Mahmood IMO). None of them would occupy a big role.

And it must be unlikely that Healey would rejoin at Defence: he didn’t resign to oust Starmer, he resigned because he was shafted in the defence plan and Burnham’s hardly going to splurge on defence spending.

I approved of Timpson’s appointment so I’m sorry to see him resign.

(When he took up the role I also laughed because his Tory minister brother was denounced by Labour as an out-of-touch posho rich boy - but then Labour hypocrisy and double-standards knows no bounds.)

No. And even on immigration legal migration was falling due to Tory policies and he failed on illegal immigration.
