A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Speaking at the People’s History Museum in Manchester on Monday, Burnham will confirm plans to set up a new “No 10 North” based in that city. The new department is intended to act as a counterweight to Whitehall’s gravitational pull, driving devolution and co-ordinating economic renewal across the country.

Translation:

  1. Maximise welfare and encourage more people to hop on benefits.
  2. Higher taxation for those who show any sign of ambition.
  3. Transfer funds from London to the north, despite the north contributing very
    little to the UK economy.

This man is a complete fraud, entering number 10 via a backdoor coronation with the support of far left Labour Party members and their hard left union backers.

This is not democracy. It's a sham government built on lies with absolutely no mandate. Many of legitimately want Labour out, and we want a GE, and we want it now.

This this and this.

Thing is you read some of the things that Labour are putting forward (and that Burnham is putting forward) and you think 'it can't possibly happen' because the idea is SO stupid and SO fiscally unsound. And then it happens and you realise that the aim is to simply tax people into poverty.

Burnham ‘give me ten years’.

Another Labour clown.

Please keep up the unrelenting pressure, Kemi.

EasternStandard · 29/06/2026 07:22

Thanks @Nuthatch26

I can’t believe Burnham is at give me ten years arrogance, he’s not started yet. Starmer was all give me ten years I’m not going anywhere it just irritated people more until he was ousted.

Labour chumps.

Parsley4321 · 29/06/2026 07:34

Every day more nonsense

KateSixer · 29/06/2026 07:44

Lower tax. Less public spending.

Sack half the employees in the public sector who don't do front line jobs.

Reform social housing to eliminate fraud.

Introduce fees like in Ireland for going to see the GP to cut down timewasters.

Encourage ambition in youngsters. Make the UK business friendly and watch the economy grow.

Burnham will I assume do none of this!

Bullandbear · 29/06/2026 07:51

Starmer is claiming credit for an 80 per cent fall in net migration since a peak in 2023, in large part due to a visa clampdown introduced under the Conservatives.

He insists his efforts to reduce small boats crossing the English Channel are working, with numbers down 40 per cent compared with the same period last year. However, the 365-day rolling average is still higher than it was when Labour took power.

The NHS has also been told to intensify efforts on routine treatment, as Starmer seeks to avoid an embarrassing rise in waiting lists being announced just before his departure next month.

He is boasting of “the fastest fall in NHS waiting lists for 17 years” after hitting an interim target of treating 65 per cent of non-urgent cases within 18 weeks by March. However, waits rose in April and are now back to February levels.

Checking in.
How much will it cost to shift these power bases and what will he give to defence ?

Pacificwave · 29/06/2026 08:22

Moving the treasury North and putting part of number 10 in Manchester sounds expensive, disruptive and gimmicky.

I would expect it will generate more costs to the whole than benefits to Manchester and other favoured bits of “the North”. I am not sure that all of the north of England feels loved and included.

A naked attempt to cement his voter base.

The UK will be divided into the ‘host’ London and SE, which will exist solely to provide for the ‘parasitic’ north.

Until all that remains of London and SE is an empty husk.

Totally agree. Not a good start from Burnham.

Bless, he's in denial. So are some of his supporters still.

Reports that Burnham will not take any questions after his speech this morning.
Why not? He'll probably be PM in a few weeks, yet he avoids scrutiny.

Interesting, thanks.

He might have got away with that as Manchester Mayor, but it will not wash now.

Thank you, @Nuthatch26. (Brilliant and accurate cartoon.)

Meanwhile in Wales Plaid are pushing for a devolution vote so we can join the EU 😕

Agree.
There were reports over the weekend that the DIP will leave us short on air defences, but Andy doesn't want to talk about that.
If he thinks he can win over the public just by saying "the north" in every sentence, he has a shock coming.

Chatting to friends last night, someone posed that frequently asked question, "If there was a GE tomorrow, who would you vote for?" All eight of us said Kemi, which surprised me because Reform tops the polls so often I was expecting someone to put up an argument for them. (I appreciate voting intention doesn't always reflect the actual vote.)

So, in the current climate and almost certain ascendancy of AB to PM, who would you vote for in the unlikely event AB calls a GE?

Wales built at great expense a second senedd building in north wales. It was a dismal failure no-one would travel north. So now it's a call centre for student loans. Burnham will fail with this.
