In Nuthatch's absence, I've been asked to start the new thread!

A chat thread for those of us who don't like this Labour government.

"Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."

What Fluffy said.

Meanwhile, I can't believe that Alistair campbell actually went on Triggernometry! I'm not sure I can bear to watch it.

A lot of the feedback I've seen is that he didn't respond to statement of facts. Also that he was (admittedly) unaware of certain things? And therefore dismissed them as being incorrect.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/07/2026 23:57

I might read the transcript, don’t think I can bring myself to watch him.

I didn't think they made transcripts available! Yeah, I would find it much easier to read than to listen to him.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/07/2026 01:00

There is a transcript on the YouTube video. He’s insufferable- I just read it with the sound off so just his hammy facial expressions and gestures.

That’s accurate feedback. It’s worth reading the transcript I think. He had no idea about College of Policing guidelines and just handwaved it away, and he came out with the predictable line on grooming gangs.

“This is the end of my political journey” Starmer says.

Is he leaving politics as in resigning as MP?

Or, if he is staying does he think MPs are not politicians?

Edited

I would be quite content if he permanently naffed off.

Keen not to see his boat race ever again.

For the last time: The one thing I cant get my head around is how after 35 years of the Premier League. Thus, thousands of world class Foreign imported Players coaches and ideas, England's retention percentage of keeping the ball continues to go down tournament by tournament ! I am sure in the dark ages of Wimbledon hoofing the ball up to Fashanu.

Secondly during the times when a goalkeeper could score at Oldham and QPR with two bounces on the shit 'plastic' pitches enabling QPR and Oldham to be 2-up before the game had started . However, am I imaging even around the dire straights football was in that England teams had better ball retention then today !

If you can assess the times there is a fascinating break down by the mins after we scored the goal. It's astonishing to read.
The problem is when another team score and get ahead that's when any team digs in to score including us!
So I think the key is more psychology ,maybe even hypnosis that once England score ,forget it and play like you have not. .it's that up against the wall mentality we need.
Argentina have scored 19 goals and about 11 came after 70th mins when they have been on the back foot. Then they leave little time for the opposing team to score.

We did much better than France v Spain I felt v.sorry for their fans !
I wonder what France v England will be like ?

I always wonder what training is like and how they game plan against the various teams ? They must have seen Argentinas wins and how and had a strategy to beat that.

I don't know what went wrong but it felt like our scorers lines were shut down Jude , kane etc barely got the ball in our half ? And yet Egypt had three easy goals against Argentina.

I also read that Argentina had access to the very best training ground with hydro pools ,gyms , lower altitude equipment and so on .for instance we had to build a gym under a marquee !
We ran far more than Spain and France but 3km less than Argentina due to their extra time.

That training ground was between us and them but they were awarded it because their match was in Kansas.

They even had a week's training down near Miami so Messi could be nearer home !

We had lots of extra flights and loss of sleep to contend with and their flight back from Mexico was delayed.

For those on X, if you don’t follow Charlotte Gill it is worth doing so. There are some very worrying people connected to Burnham’s team and they are about to have a great deal of power:

Indeed, and the former Hope not Hate director.
If his tenure matches these initial signals, these threads aren't going to be getting any quieter, put it that way.

It has all the hallmarks of a coup...

And according to the Telegraph, “Andy Burnham will blame Margaret Thatcher for Britain’s problems in his first speech as Labour leader today”.

Well it’s a tack I suppose although it doesn’t wave away the £20 odd billion debt for Thames Water. If it’s with the state that’s extra debt for tax payers.

Bit of a stretch blaming Thatcher, but at least it's a different tack to referring to the 14 years prior to their tenure!

They had a significant time in government from 1997. Why didn't they do something then to reverse Thatcher's legacies? 🤔🤔 Instead of making things worse, such as introducing PFI etc.

Yes, wasn’t he actually part of that government in its latter stages?

Yes at least the word inherited will go it’s too far back. Are we returning to the late 70s?

SpaceRaccoon · 17/07/2026 10:46

Why did he fight them on the beaches?

It could have been sorted out with a diversity officer or two?

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 17/07/2026 11:37

I blame Walpole and Pitt the Elder.

seriouslycanthisgetWORSE · 17/07/2026 12:26

Loving how Makerfied is seen as the great success story when the whole point of it was to get rid of starmer after the reform storm in council elections.

EasternStandard · 17/07/2026 12:29

Listening to Burnham on sticking to Labour values. Wonder what that means for Mahmood’s policies.

Actually Burnham backed them so presumably being that tough is now just a Labour thing.

Middlerage · 17/07/2026 12:39

Surely Alfred the great has a lot to answer for..
