In Nuthatch's absence, I've been asked to start the new thread!

A chat thread for those of us who don't like this Labour government.

"Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."

I was especially impressed by the Labour stalwart who came on here earlier to back up a poster with good hard facts about the many boat arrivals.

Perhaps this marks the start of a new phase: the Labour supporters drop in here to make some anti-Labour points. It would be very liberating for them.

I know! I have to say it was a first ever but it made my afternoon.

At my local post office you could queue up to buy some stamps at the age of 40 and be ready to collect your state pension by the time you get to the counter.

There's four post offices in North Wales that will handle driving licences I was surprised to find. Bangor, Colwyn Bay, Abergele and Rhyl. None local to us.

Does anyone with a 'brain' on the Left of politics actually understand what a 2% levy on £10 Million Pound assets would actually mean in practice. Well for a start how many 'family' owned business that have been two three or multiple generation family business are in this category . I am not being stupid here (But £10 Million is not that much in value for a intergenerational family business). No the real issue will be a collapse of asset values across business art cars land basically meaning the UK is more Bankrupt than we currently are. Thus business and people will not be able to borrow Princess Boats Bankrupt Aston Martin Bankrupt Bentley Bankrupt Premier League Exodus of Players Ritz Hotel Empty Wimbledon debenture holders running for their lives.

This being the likelihood of the 'Millionaire' plebs those in the £10 million class of family business owners. The £100 Million + lot long gone. You see the £10 Million are not quite rich enough to bugger off to Switzerland , could not afford Monaco and are 'Fucked' by these ideas. Posters on here might say my heart bleads for you type shit , but the whole of the UK Economy is propped up by the 100,000 individuals worth £10 million. However, when these individuals have been robbed it will be the turn of the £2 million people. In reality were are a country that is in the last throes of being what was a first World Capitalist Country.

Today I tried to renew my driving license. Had to sign up to a new government app to start with. Okay created an account. Then I was pushed into another area had to do security again. Photograph my passport, picture page and cover. Then they had to scan my face lots of bright coloured lights. After all that I had failed. Afraid I lost it at that point. Deleted the app, filled in the form and will find a post office next week.

I reckon it's digital ID by the back door.

Btw took me a minute to pay my tax bill to the HMRC account no ID needed

Edited

It IS digital ID by the back door. This is the Government app i was talking about earlier with all the problems I had with Companies House and HMRC. This is a summary of my experience:

*Companies H sent me a letter saying that as I am a director of a company i now had to use this app to prove my identity

*I downloaded the app and tried to use it. But failed at the final hurdle. My belief is this is because the photo ID I used (drivers licence is in maiden name yet I am on the electoral roll in married name.... previously never an issue because I always get my docuemtns certified by a person qualified to do so).

*I tried several times and did not work. Took my documents to the post office to get certified and sent off to CH which the form said could be done

*Got documents returned with a note saying that it could NOT be done like this.

*Rang CH and they said that only some post offices could authorise the ID via documents, not all. I needed to get an actual registered person to do so. Fine- assumed this was a solicitor etc, like per usual. No, it turned out that the process now needed a person who has formally applied to be a verifier.

*Provided with a helpful list- the person nearest to me was a 40 minute drive away.

*Received a threatening letter from CH saying I had not verified my identity Vvia the app within time and I would be subjected to criminal prosecution

*Contacted CH and explained my problem and they extended the deadline

*went to special verifier and she certified my ID online in 5 minutes flat (£40) while we had a nice chat and I patted the office cat.

*Received a code that verified my ID and that I use for CH communications. Happy days.

*3 months later- trying to submit my HMRC 'Making Tax Digital' quarterly return (because I am one of those most disgusting of things, a Landlord). have to register to do so with HMRC- the EXACT same Government app and ID that I used for CH in order to do so. No problem I though- it's already been done and dusted with CH.

*No. ID not verified and the app has barred me from use due to repeated failed attempts.

*Contacted HMRC. Yes, they know that the Gov.UK One system is now meant to be in use across all Government departments, but there are teething problems and none of it marries up. There isn't anything they can do, but if I fail to submit my tax report on time then I face penalties. Sorry. [shrug]. Oh, and I can't use Government gateway because everything is being moved to Gov.One UK, so no options there

*Contacted my tax accountant to do all this for me.... at a cost yet to be discovered.

So yes- it IS digital ID by the back door.

Now DH is having to also set up a digital ID for himself but- he does not have a phone that uses apps. He can't use MY phone because my phone is already barred from my repeated failed attempts. So he is heading off next week on the 40 minute drive to go and see the certified verifier but that only solves the CH situation, not HMRC.

Fucking. Joke.

OH my DS had to do this for his company for the holiday let. Was such a ball ache he handed it over to the accountant to sort. You're right that the app isn't joined up yet.

This week DH had an email from our pharmacy saying now he had to register with the NHS app at the surgery to use them. So he did try repeatedly. Failed. So he phoned the surgery who said they hadn't got it working yet 🙄

I'm so glad you posted this my DH thought I was being stupid.

My passport expires in eight months. I'm going to attempt to renew it tomorrow on this bloody gov app.

No, it;s not you. I thought I was being somehow stupid too and googled about if problems were being reported. There are ALOT of complaints. And the HMRC guy was regretful but said there was nothing he could do and it was a known issue.

So good... bring in something that does not actually work - deny it's digital ID- and penalise us honest people who are trying to do what we are told to do.

That was a Labour affectation that started under Blair. His ministers started copying his phoney, transient glottal stops and it’s stuck.

And barely a flicker of interest on MN. People are so numb to it now and I don't even know if they realise how normalised these "smaller" knife and vehicle attacks are. Younger people won't have known society without them.

It's more a lefty Merkel issue. Not reversed by subsequent government. Same as in many countries including the UK.

I see the current lot are doing the same thing of floating various ideas through the press

Kemi has done the open letter thing saying that she's willing to work with them, but they must be cuts to fund all the new things.

Every time I look at something and find it bizarrely generous, I wonder which idiot put that in place and then I find out it was the Tories!

They are getting tired, no more facile validation, no more moral superiority, it’s not fun anymore to be « OTRSOH ».

They are posting less and less, and prefer to retreat to their own threads, slow fade. Great, they have blocked and derailed these debates for too long.

With a couple of exceptions the only time I’ve seen it mentioned by anyone here on the left is to reach to blame women who know what biological sex is. As if “Abdul B” was a JKR and Helen Joyce fan.

My daughter is meant to be going on a school trip to Paris. All these reports of attacks in city centres across Europe has got me really concerned. Made even worse by the fact I seen reports there’s been a knife attack in Paris and a pregnant woman was among 3 people stabbed. I haven’t paid the deposit for my daughter’s trip yet and now I’m actually wondering whether to cancel. She’s my world.
