Interesting. The incident I mentioned is a lot more recent so they haven't given up. OH and a different police force discovered the nest of trainee terrorists.

My feeling is the newer parties are best described as a busted flush, but only a GE will reflect national opinion - if enough eligible voters turn out.

The current political upheaval and almost hysterical media comment is the stuff of stasis; just standing still feels safe when everyone "in charge" is anything but in charge.

600 or so more migrants arrived over the last few days. Wonder what Burnham plans to do about immigration?

Yesterday I suspected a civil service plant on another thread. Their defence was so detailed knowledge wise, in fact the whole thread was dodgy.

Today I tried to renew my driving license. Had to sign up to a new government app to start with. Okay created an account. Then I was pushed into another area had to do security again. Photograph my passport, picture page and cover. Then they had to scan my face lots of bright coloured lights. After all that I had failed. Afraid I lost it at that point. Deleted the app, filled in the form and will find a post office next week.

I reckon it's digital ID by the back door.

Btw took me a minute to pay my tax bill to the HMRC account no ID needed

At my local post office you could queue up to buy some stamps at the age of 40 and be ready to collect your state pension by the time you get to the counter.

Our post office has two frazzled assistants. One is usually behind the window with a blind down whilst they do something else and the other one is trying to sort out a queue a mile long! You do age a bit and a lot of it because the banks have closed down and someone thought that was a good idea! ..

We're lucky with our closest post office, as it's never been hideously busy when I'm there (it's in the local Spar). There's another one near the kids' former primary school (also in a Spar) which seems to have much longer queues. The one in what was WH Smith in the town centre is dire!

We're also a few minutes' walk from the delivery office, so I can buy postage online and they'll print the label when you get there. Obviously that's no good for DVLA applications, but probably helps in keeping the queues shorter at the post office nearby!

Where I grew up we had a sub-post office. Just a sort of half-shop but not within another shop. I guess they’ve mostly gone now.

Mind you, the man who ran it was the most miserable, rude bastard ever. I bet he voted Labour.

It has been like that for a while!

I was especially impressed by the Labour stalwart who came on here earlier to back up a poster with good hard facts about the many boat arrivals.

Perhaps this marks the start of a new phase: the Labour supporters drop in here to make some anti-Labour points. It would be very liberating for them.

I wonder if that particular poster might be having NC issues and whether they are actually hedging their bets, so to speak, and posting here and There.
