Telegraph : Healy was part of corybns far left gov and called for more benefit rises. Maybe his stint in defence has tempered him ? .
Mail : Burnham's cabinet has more private and Oxbridge educated grads than starmers.
Personally I don't mind where people are educated or how rich or poor they are as long as they are experts at what they do but I do find the profile a little rich from a party who seems to keep championing bog standard comps and basic education.

I see Andy had flip-flopped on the income tax allowance already, just like he did with the WASPI women. Seems he might need to learn not to speak before he’s actually looked at the figures, etc.

Raising the threshold would help many people and yet it's not been done because labour said it would benefit those at the top more ?
And yet money means so much more in pennies to those at the bottom . It was supposedly the no 1 issue in makerfield.

The spectator article has him spot on in my opinion and it's what I felt when I saw him in cabinet. Acting like no one else had thought of these things eg find money from your departments to help people ,it's the right thing to do said in a kind voice. .

These institutions aren’t private members clubs for rich people to hobnob, even if Labour portrays them as such.

They are instances of the best education the world has to offer, honed over centuries. I am very happy to have our leaders to be well educated.

It’s Labour’s hypocrisy and mendacity that irks me.

It's going to take the best brains to mitigate the mess we're in.

We also need ideologically unfettered brains to look at our problems objectively and unfortunately labour ideologists can't do that

Wes Streeting has apologised after being caught on mic joking about the early release scheme.

Speaking to Mahmood about the new justice secretary Alex Norris before yesterday's cabinet meeting, Streeting joked "he's the enemy now" and "he wants to let them all out".

Good to know that Streeting finds it funny. What a knob he is.

Transport Sec Heidi Alexander was interviewed on Sky this morning. She doesn't appear to know exactly how the £2 bus fare pledge will be paid for, but she's happy to come back when she has the details.

To be fair to Mahmood, she didn't rise to it. When WS said "he's the enemy now", she said "no he's not". Then when WS said "he wants to let them all out", Mahmood replied "he knows who's boss".

She probably also thinks that Streeting is a knob.

I wouldn't mind so much, but I thought Mahmood using her apology to blame the Tories was really unpleasant. And undermined the whole apology, actually.

They really need to stop blaming others for their own failings. It’s infuriating and weak. Starmer did it and he’s been ousted.

I think she dealt with Streeting's jokes well.

It was actually a well explained apology, and I appreciate that sometimes in jokes sound terrible to others

In Labour's eyes, any policy which benefits higher income people in any way - even when it benefits people on lower income more - is to be resisted. Muppets.
