In Nuthatch's absence, I've been asked to start the new thread!

A chat thread for those of us who don't like this Labour government.

"Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."

I want to know who's in! (I'm not renowned for my patience!)

So good to see who's out. They're dropping like flies 🥳

EasternStandard · 20/07/2026 16:14

It’s great to see. Really and truly.

Although we have the next lot soon

And now I’ve watched Burnham. Terrible. Awful.

He was like the manager of the Makerfield ASDA who’s been given a slot at the company conference to say some encouraging things about the year ahead for his shop. Meaningless rambling nonsense. Buzz word bingo. And badly, badly delivered.

No gravitas, no presence, not even any convincing, relatable folksiness (which is what I think his whole schtick is going to be from now on 🙄). He just seems out of his depth.

Not a good start IMO.

Agree with your take. So bad.
He has the depth of a puddle.

CruCru · 20/07/2026 16:15

I’ll be surprised if Bridget Phillipson stays. Starmer seemed to love her. And she really upset loads of people.

Nuthatch26 · 20/07/2026 16:15

Beth Rigby said Reeves was offered another job, but turned it down. Thank F for that!

EasternStandard · 20/07/2026 16:22

Hermer out

CruCru · 20/07/2026 16:22

Yvette Cooper and Shabana Mahmood should both get jobs in the cabinet. Cooper hasn’t done anything embarrassing (as far as I know) and has spent ages having the PM dancing on her toes. Mahmood is unpopular with the back benches but is doing all right as Home Secretary (never a fluffy role, that).

A few minutes ago, I walked through the door of No.10 for the first time as Prime Minister.
Here's the first instruction I gave when I got inside.
We are going to end rough sleeping in this country at the first opportunity.
People have told me it would take decades. Some say it's impossible. I'm not having that. This is something a government can fix if it chooses to, and today, on day one, I'm choosing to.
Because we should be a country where everyone has the security of a roof over their head and a chance to get back on their feet.
There's much more to come. But I wanted your first email from me as Prime Minister to be about this, because it shows you exactly what kind of government I intend to lead.

From Labourlist email.

So there's no homeless in Manchester then?

PropertyD · 20/07/2026 16:27

offered another job might well be some face saving with regard to Reeves. She has been one of the worst Chancellors of all time. I cannot beleive that she thinks she did a good job.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/07/2026 16:29

Nuthatch26 · 20/07/2026 13:39

Yeah, its shocking. Whatever he's been doing in Manchester has made things noticeably worse.

I went in 2019 and was really shocked by how dangerous that area felt.

I am not sure the homelessness in Manchester went very well. AB said it needed the whole of the country to sign up to getting people off the street.

That’s why he didn’t win any of his other attempts to take over the Labour Party.

Good. He should never have been appointed. Makes me sick that he's a Lord.

I know.
Really hoping she gets the boot this afternoon. Also hope that Burnham smirks when he sacks her. Karma.

Same 😂

I don't care much who he appoints (they're all nutters), I'm just here for the sackings 🍿😂

What she thinks isn't important. And clearly Burnham doesn't think she's right!

Ha ik the incomers will be nutters but the sackings are far more enjoyable when it’s this lot.

Nuthatch26 · 20/07/2026 16:55

Reeves turned down job as Defence Sec (Times).

No surprise after the fiasco of the DIP.
