Tomorrow I'm expecting rise in tax thresholds, vat removed from energy bills and gas drilling now.

You may be right @seriouslycanthisgetWORSEI guess we’ll also find out how it will be paid for.

I'm also expecting energy debt to be paid off

So anyone who is in debt to the utility company, I think the government will be paying those debts

Sorry but I thought Burnham's speech was shite. He was wobbling about due to not using a lectern, and quite clearly winging it with waffle due to having no notes. This casual 'man of the people' shtick does nothing for me when we face such huge problems.
If he doesn't improve, and fast, it will be a very short honeymoon.

I haven’t been able to watch Starmer or Burnham. I’ll catch up. But if Burnham’s Downing Street entry speech was bad, it doesn’t bode well: that’s the easiest one he’ll ever have to give.

At least they didn't pay Gemma Collins for that excruciating video. She did it for free 😬

They will have NO idea how to spend

if it’s anything like my Labour led local authority it will just get wasted on pointless improvement schemes that don’t work. Meanwhile thousands of new houses have been built and the bin service has completely collapsed. It’s a lottery on any given day as to whether bins are emptied or not. They have also closed a number of local tips. They are inefficient and have just spent millions on consultants for their Transformation Programme. The benefits of which are completely opaque.

I have to say Starmer was well out of his depth. Taking freebies and then taking WFA away. Reeves was completely useless. I wish she would stop crying and pull herelf together. She does women no favours at all.

Who is that shouting in the background during the speech? Surely its not beyond possibility to stop this otherwise what next - tons of people all shouting different things?

Who is going to build these new council homes and who is going to get them?

Surely not the 800 plus people who arrive on small boats. Yes, I know they wont get them immediately but as they are granted permission the older lot will have nowhere to live and go right to the top of the queue.

Right, one speech down - Starmer’s - and one to go.

Starmer’s speech was a bit weird, as a pp said. All ‘I’ve done so well’ self-praise. In which case why have you been unceremoniously dumped by your panicking party? I don’t begrudge him the chance to preserve a bit of dignity, but some straighter talking would have done him favours.

There were two significant bits though, one a sign, one just laughable.

The sign was the hug for Reeves. They both know she’ll have time on her hands from today. A bit of chess practice maybe?

The laughable comment was “as I pass the baton to Andy Burnham”. Passing the baton is something you do intentionally to a plan, to win a race. Starmer didn’t pass anything to Burnham, who he’d done all he could to block. He was mugged by Burnham who gave him a kicking and ran off with his keys.

And now I’ve watched Burnham. Terrible. Awful.

He was like the manager of the Makerfield ASDA who’s been given a slot at the company conference to say some encouraging things about the year ahead for his shop. Meaningless rambling nonsense. Buzz word bingo. And badly, badly delivered.

No gravitas, no presence, not even any convincing, relatable folksiness (which is what I think his whole schtick is going to be from now on 🙄). He just seems out of his depth.

Not a good start IMO.

I had half a hope that Starmer would ask the King to call a GE, instead of resigning as planned. He really could've made a name for himself then! 🤣🤣

I won't be watching either speech. Reading about them has been plenty!

There’s a thing in the Times - gilt yields have just risen.

I recommend the Burnham speech, as a lesson in how not to enter No. 10. Look out for the Eric Morecambe-style specs fiddling.

Reeves wont stay. Completely out of her depth and useless. What is all this 'its been the privilege of my life' etc. Are they all been given this speech when they are sacked?

Our ex-MP (Tory) was an Asda store manager beforehand! I feel like the vibe will be familiar. 🤣🤣
