Wouldn't it be good if we could get wind turbines to blow the hot weather north and the cooler weather south so that we could all enjoy an ambient 25 degrees. London is hell on earth in temperatures of mid 30s which feel like mid 40s.

I'd be up for that! Surely the technology can't be too far away?!

MyFastZebra · 09/07/2026 14:24

No I won't jog on.

I think it's embarrassing how people are over reacting. Get a grip. It's not even hot.

It's even more embarrassing after hearing people complain all last winter about how bad and cold the weather was.

Some people just never stop complaining and people are fed up of the likes of you

Want to come to my top floor SH flat in the south east complete with fire door (not allowed gaps) black cladding , window restrictors oh and the lazy fuckers from the HA cut down trees (which are vital for shading) instead of maintaining them.

ForWiseRoseCat · 09/07/2026 17:36

What I would like is a breeze and some proper rain. We haven't had significant rain in weeks.

Regardless of whether you think it's hot or not (it's 36c where I am) its been especially dry and we need rain.

My prediction is around 20th July when most schools will have broken up for the summer!

This!

I wouldn't have been 'wailing'*before I had a stroke either. But many medical conditions make the higher temperatures not just 'uncomfortable/a bit hot' but bodies struggle to cope. Even if you try to keep cool if puts extra strain on your heart & other organs, that's why people end up in hospital & dying.

some people don't have an illness as such, but just can't cope with the heat, all our bodies are different.

i have been doing my best to stay cool, but I had to go to the hospital for an important outpatient appointment yesterday. I was not well by the time I got there. last heatwave I was able to reschedule some treatment, this appointment was unable be rescheduled.

*im not wailing at all but I would like the normal summer temperatures instead of the heatwaves.

try having a little empathy.

you too might feel the same one day. I had a stroke out of the blue, this is only one thing that has changed massively in my life. You aren't immune to a life changing event.

EDITED TO ADD: you could also stop opening threads about it.

Edited

I’m sorry for your situation I really am. And for what it’s worth my mum died after a massive stroke.

However , I’m still entitled to take part in a discussion and have a view .

Ive also developed a bilateral ear infection (in both ears) due to the heat and humidity in this shithole (diagnosed) and im on antibiotics Am at risk of losing my hearing at least partially. Two years ago during another heatwave it was strep throat. Also antibiotics

Yes but I'm talking facts. And facts are important.

In Spain I couldn't sit or walk outside at all without burning to a crisp. It was like sitting in an oven. It was uncomfortable to sit in the sun for more than two seconds in Spain

It is NOT THAT HOT in England. It is fine to walk and sit outside here

Edited

Well in my part of the SE you would have burnt to a crisp if you spent more than 5 minutes in the sun today. I did some washing and it was dry in about 10 minutes.

And you can't compare with Spain because their houses are designed for it. We had a guest from Spain during the last heatwave and she was really suffering in our English-designed-for-winter house!

Exactly!

It is hot FOR US in the UK, comparing us to Spain is ridiculous. We are not in Spain. We are not built for heat in this country.
That's like someone saying.. Oh God it's FREEZING today and you retorting with it's not as cold as Alaska.
Ridiculous.

I also live in a top floor flat. I bought a fan last summer and that's what I use.

When it's hot, every inside building needs some kind of cooling system

It has been hot in summers before in the UK.

What people do, is get fans.

So then why don't you design your own house for it?

There's no air conditioning in my flat. I went out and bought two fans and it is now fine

Ralphinadress · 09/07/2026 17:57

Yes there has, people moaned about them then too.
Comparing us to Spain is ridiculous. It's not hot! It's hotter in Spain! No shit Sherlock.
If so many people are suffering and finding it hot..then it is hot.

There's no air conditioning in my flat. I went out and bought two fans and it is now fine

You must have been hot then...even though it's not hot.

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2026 17:58

It is time to change the way that houses are built and adapt to these hotter summers, but new houses going up don’t seem much different and air con is expensive to install and run. People like me in older houses can’t do a lot on a budget really.

PickAChew · 09/07/2026 17:56

It's not too hot to be outside. Summer is obviously the hottest time of year every year.

After a while, the hot air heats up inside buildings, and all buildings need inside cooling systems in the summer, obviously.

With fans and air conditioning, tje inside of buildings are not hot. With the fans in my flat, my flat is lovely and cool.

I have fans on in my flat every single summer.

Obviously summer is hotter than other seasons.

What hot air? It's not hot? Certainly not hot enough to invest in fans surely...coz like, it's not hot.

Fans don't cool buildings down.

North east Scotland here - we’ve had a few pleasant days including today. Mainly been cool, dull, and heating has been used morning and evening for a bit as it’s still chilly enough. Dreading winter approaching with no let up and the price of oil😢. Wish north and south could share and meet each other half way as much as I love the sun, 30 degrees or thereabouts isn’t really enviable.

I just can't imagine having to put the heating on with these high temperatures! Just the thought of it is making me feel faint.
