My prediction is around 20th July when most schools will have broken up for the summer!

Yes, the sky usually turns grey the day they break up.

You are a brave person to suggest that Rochdale is east of the Pennines. It's not in Gods Own Country.

When you’ve killed off the sun fairies, by moaning about the heat, condemning us all to a few weeks of grey skies and rain.

Every time someone moans about the heat, a sun fairy dies. Double points if it’s on Mumsnet, where nobody is allowed to enjoy the heat.

PotteringAboutIn · 07/07/2026 22:04

25c is hot enough for anyone, hot enough for beach days

PurpleCoo · 07/07/2026 22:05

In fairness it's only been hot again since the weekend, it was cooler last week, so it's only been a few days this time really. Plus it's cooler than the last hot spell, plus we are acclimatised to it, so it doesn't feel as hot.

I just live outside in the garden. I have a huge parasol and WFH sitting under that and it's fine as long as I stay in the shade. It's scorchio as soon as you go into the sun, but I just don't do that.

I am still sitting outside now, and it's very pleasant. I may relocate to my hammock shortly.

I keep the curtains closed all day, and open the windows and curtains at the rear of the house when the sun moves from 5pm. I haven't even needed to use a fan really.

I wear clothes suitable for the weather as well and it's manageable then. I didn't even really sweat much.

Chaletwest · 07/07/2026 22:06

Hasn’t started here yet, been about 23 degrees up north.

GimmieABreakOr3 · 07/07/2026 22:08

Nah, I am not enjoying it. It’s too hot & humid, I feel like there’s no air, it’s really uncomfortable. I’m in the south east and it was 30 degrees today but felt like 38! It’s very difficult to work in without air con. I feel frazzled by the end of the work day. Showers twice a day.

feellikeanalien · 07/07/2026 22:13

So where is the divide? 15 degrees, wet and windy in Northumberland. We're supposed to have three nice days later in the week and that's it.

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 07/07/2026 22:13

XMAS, I heard

Wishihadanalgorithm · 07/07/2026 22:14

OP, I’m with you. I absolutely despise this level of heat. 22degrees is enough for me.

It’s been over 30 here consistently and other than being able to get my washing dried quickly I can’t think of any benefits.

I’m another teacher who has been melting alongside the children.

No one can work in these conditions, children and teachers aren’t sleeping at night, it’s too hot to
concentrate or think and all anyone can do is exist.

If homes and schools were air conditioned then it wouldn’t be so bad. However, I’d be happy with a typical British summer.

Those people saying they are loving this, I wonder how they are sleeping, where they work, and if their homes have AC. I also wonder what the weather is like where they are.

24 degrees is very different to 34 in the shade!

LondonLass2026 · 07/07/2026 22:17

It's not all over the UK. I'm in the north east and it's been grey and raining all day. Had to wear a jacket on the dog walk.

I live here too, and it's been shit today. Cold, grey, thick cloud, rain.

CateyeKate · 07/07/2026 22:22

I counting down the days until life becomes enjoyable again. A combination of health issues and menopause means the heat for me feels 10 times hotter, I hate living in the south east.

I actually sat and wept this afternoon. I'm a fully grown arse woman crying over the weather but it's genuinely making me feel dreadful.

The sooner it's over the better imo.

BotoxOrPuffins · 07/07/2026 22:23

I'm 44 and have spent my whole life absolutely loving summer. I used to relish each sunny day. But now my thermoregulation is completely off and it is awful. Everyone is having fun at the lido, eating buckets of ice cream, just making the most of it and enjoying it and here I am a sweaty mess. Hate it now and it's making me sad I can't enjoy my favourite season anymore. Nothing cooks me down, I'm so miserable.

Move to Glasgow, we’re waiting for it to begin here.

We are looking at afew days away in the summer and Scotland is on the list as the kids hate being boiling 🥵

SirChenjins · 07/07/2026 22:27

Send it north of the border please - it's been shit here in Edinburgh for ages! I actually put the heating on for a bit the other day, the house was starting to feel damp and I couldn't get clothes dried.

Sorry you're finding it too hot in your part of the UK though.

My stroke is a lot more real than sun fairies. It's making me very unwell.

people can enjoy it. I'm glad some are! But the environment isn't & many of us with health conditions aren't, so hoping it lasts is just a shitty attitude.

I was very appreciative of 18 degrees and grey skies after a week in Devon including 37 degree heat and burning my feet on the sand at the beach

i would if I could, even if it wasn't making me very unwell! You deserve some good weather! I'm not sure you'd want it for long though. My local forecast said 33 here today, it was over 37° in my garden.🤬 30 inside with curtains closed & fan on

I genuinely wish I could. According to the MET the lowest we're getting for the next week is 26 and for several days we're getting 32/33. 🥵

i empathise. Been crying a lot since this horrible heat started, which has been going on since end of May now. Chronic migraines and heat exhaustion over it and poor sleep. I never again want to hear anyone ever say we never get a summer!
