It was always full of cunts

Oh no it wasn't.

Don't use your quilt! It is far too hot - just put the duvet covet on the bed!

I know I'm going to come across as nuts in this heat but I still have the quilt, I just chuck it back at night before I go to sleep. I woke up this morning and I had it pulled right up. I didn't feel hot at all and I slept through till 8am.

Weird isn't it, my friends certainly think I am? 😆

FWC2026 · 10/07/2026 09:30

MyFastZebra · 09/07/2026 14:24

No I won't jog on.

I think it's embarrassing how people are over reacting. Get a grip. It's not even hot.

It's even more embarrassing after hearing people complain all last winter about how bad and cold the weather was.

Some people just never stop complaining and people are fed up of the likes of you

It's not @henlake7 peopke are fed up if!

yes it IS that fucking hot here. It was 37° here yesterday & if affects my health conditions.

There are thousands of people on MN. Some people complained about the cold, some people are struggling in the heat. Use some critical thought to realise they're probably different people.

I haven't actually complained about either, but I have stated the fact that my body isn't coping very well with the heat. I may have also commented in the winter I wasn't coping very with the cold. Sadly after my stroke that's life as my body doesn't regular temperature like it used to & my left £ right hand dudes feel the temperature differently too adding another difficulty.

so anytime you want to stop being so insensitive would be good with me.

Gengha · 10/07/2026 10:09

FWC2026 · 10/07/2026 09:13

Yeah!!

it's irrelevant how hot it is in Spain to my body not coping with the 37° it was here yesterday. It's irrelevant that I'd already be jn hospital if I was in Spain because I'm NOT in Spain. I wasn't stupid enough to book a holiday jn Spain when the temperatures are usually hotter there.

Don't get me wrong, I really feel for the people in Spain who aren't coping ok with the heat ❤️ but a poster saying 'it's not a problem here because it's hotter in Spain' is ridiculous.

not to mention I lived in Valencia for a while & in the South of France & It's a different feel at 35° than it is in the UK.

Yes it’s so humid here. I live in Scotland so will confess to be being eyerolly and wtf when there had been previous news reports on heat waves. But I was in Devon on holiday and OMFG it was truly horrendous. Far far too hot and humid. Coped much better in Spain and Portugal last summer

SqueakyFromme · 10/07/2026 11:29

This is the temp on my rear patio area now (its rising as I write) granted direct sun, bottom figure is % humidity. all my flower petals in my pots have withered up. Not sure how much longer we can cope at this rate, crops etc.

When the fuck, is this heatwave going to end
mydogisthebest · 10/07/2026 11:52

I wish I was one of (the few) who think it is not hot. I don't like temperatures above about 23. It is 33 where I am today and even with 2 fans on me I feel awful.

Me and DH walked our dog at 6am and it was already too hot for me and the dog didn't seem to be enjoying it even though it was a shady walk so we came home.

Even DH, who normally loves the heat, is saying it's too much.

As for it being hotter in other countries, well I think we all realise that and that is precisly why I would never ever go abroad in June, July or August unless to a cold country. We like to sightsee and no way can I walk round in unbearable heat

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2026 19:18

I kid you not, but during the infamous 76 heatwave , they had some people on tv doing a rain dance !
I remember it well. It seemed to work.

I was only 7 & had forgotten about tgat, so thanks for the memory jog!!

it was a paddling pool (in the shade) with all my neighbourhood friends coming, my mum keeping us in ice lollies & cold drinks!! (& fruit & biscuits!!). What a summer!

Long may it continue while Europe is burning and people are dying is a particular form of insular assholery.

Yes, I pointed that out yesterday. But she continues anyway.

im happy some people can enjoy it, but FFS people are very unwell with it & some dying. Not to mention the environmental damage & deaths.

you do indeed have to be a special kind of arse to wish for it to continue.

whilst I know her wishing won't make a jot of difference to the weather it's still a nasty attitude.

FWC2026 · 10/07/2026 12:51

Myblueclematis · 10/07/2026 08:53

I've got to change the bed when I finish my coffee, the very thought of heaving the quilt around makes me feel really faint.

Can't wait for cooler air and rain! ☂

My quilt has taken up residence on the spare bed! bottom sheet only here,

LonelyInPitOfStomach · 10/07/2026 12:59

Of course, no one wants anyone to die, and of course, things need to cool down in Europe.

However, personally if we settle down to be a country where June - Sept is 30 degrees and under, I’ll be well chuffed.

That means we can enjoy our summers, just like the southern Europeans do (when it’s not baking!). I’ve relatives in Spain and heatwave aside, they have much better quality of life than we do, with less money and it’s largely down to having sunny weather and the culture built around it.

Yes it's a different feeling at 35° here than anywhere else I've been at that temperature.

eye rolly is kind of understandable if you've never experienced it, but some posters are just being goady twats.

met office says 31° here. It's 37° in my garden in the shade. Windows, doors, blinds closed 2 fans on, it's 33° in my coolest room indoors. I'm tempted to go somewhere that's air conditioned, but my car's air con isn't working & it all just feels like too much!

If it was genuinely 30° I could get in board with that, but as I just said the net office dats it 31° in my location. I don't know where they take it from but it's 37° in the shade in my garden!

The metoffice have a network of weather stations they take the data from.

https://weather.metoffice.gov.uk/learn-about/how-forecasts-are-made/observations/weather-stations

Sorry the image is blurry best I could find. Someone said they were north Hampshire so the closest weather stations would be Odiham (on the RAF base)

https://weather.metoffice.gov.uk/observations/gcp76x8dg#?date=2026-07-10 Showing 30.2 degrees at 1pm.

Your location might be hotter, especially a patio as that will be reflecting some of the heat as it has a high albedo (measure of reflectivity) so will be hotter than in the shade on grass. It will also be effect by heat effects from building - towns and cities are always hotter!

I went to school in the middle-east, we used to start at 7.30am in the hottest months and be home by 2.30pm(parents here would kick up an almighty fuss). Difference is we lived in air conditioned villas with pools, had air conditioned schools and offices and air conditioned shops. You stayed out of the sun in the hottest part of the day in your air conditioned villa, or in the pool.

I'm tired of people ignoring the fact our homes and lives aren't built around heat waves in this country.

totally agree. And parents wouldnt kick up a fuss if employers had to follow suit They will have to eventually when heatwave related deaths start happening at work and the lawsuits are filed

Hi

Yes, sorry, it was a flippant comment. My nearest weather station is Farnborough, rather than odiham, but it's still not that near me.

I understand about the buildings & concrete etc etc & my reading is from a shady spot on the grass. Not a patio.

it's residential, but semi rural where I live (though with new housing estates being built, not for much longer 😢😢😢 Will not help in future years)

my point wasn't really the met office accuracy for my area (I don't expect them to take it from my garden 🤣🤣) just that I could handle 30° if that was what I was actually experiencing, not the 37° it actually is where I live (neighbours & local friends too).

I’ve been an expat too. We didn’t have a pool and we rarely used air con as it makes you sick. One minute you are in 40 degree heat, and 90% humidity and the next you are in freezing air con. As a milky English person l had to adapt and get used to it. I did.

I’ve worked with people who went home on Friday with a chest infection, and didn’t come back on Monday and seen loads of cases of pneumonia from being in air con all the time.

Yesterday I listened to my neighbours grandkids giggling and laughing in their paddling pool. I’ve never heard them before. It was lovely.

Yes of course, it needs to cool down in Europe but honestly the whinging in this country over a rare bit of heat is actually quite pathetic.

Fans, paddling pools, get a hat, wear cotton and linen. Enjoy the fact that we are lucky to have beautiful Autumns, mild winters, gorgeous Springs and now we are getting hot summers.

CateyeKate · 10/07/2026 21:26

I love in Essex and I have found the heat unbearable all week (actually cried a couple of times from the frustration of feeling so unwell with it) but we've come to the Suffolk coast for a few days and the temperature is so much nicer, about 2. It's actually a bit nippy this evening, I have socks on and a little blanket on my lap this evening.

To say this is utter, utter bliss is an understatement.

the80sweregreat · 10/07/2026 21:40

It’s made me feel like crying. I can’t have the windows open as too noisy and ivd felt dehydrated and ear buds fall out and it’s all just too much really.
Roll on winter and some sleep that isn’t sweaty and horrible and hot.

In my area there is a huge medieval reenactment this weekend. Spare a thought for the mad men and women twitting about in armour at 3pm...!

You need to put it in the shade to measure the correct temperature.

@BurntBroccoli mmmmmmmm yeah I know that ! hence my disclaimer in the post about it being in direct sun.
