I’m stumped.

I can’t take them swimming because both are under 5, and all the local places have a one adult to one child ratio and have two children.

We would bake alive at the park. And the equipment is horrible as it’s so hot.

Soft play is like an oven.

I am struggling!

Local splash pad?
Or if you have the facilities, cover as much of your garden as possible in a large gazebo with no sides, leaving a few feet gap between the gazebo and fence at each edge to catch a through-breeze. Then you can have a plain water paddling pool and a wheelbarrow filled up with fairy liquid bubbles in a bit of water and garden toys and live under there until it gets really hot in the late afternoon.

Yes it’s life threatening for some
But also this is as cool on average as it’s going to be during hotter years
There is a natural 7/8 cycle of El Niño and La Niña - and La Niña years will be cooler

If you look at the average temperature data with peaks and troughs - the indisputable pattern is an upwards trend.

A revolutionary change in how we live would work. But particularly in the UK, with our obsession of class and pecking order, everyone likes to know there are people below them, it will never be adapted here.

More people are going to die, could be me, you, my kids, could be anyone. The planet is just doing what the planet does, carbon dioxide traps the sun’s heat inside our atmosphere, we are essentially a tiny rock bobbing around in space with some intelligent life thrown in top. Our own actions are increasing the likelihood we make our planet uninhabitable for a number and certain vulnerable people.

This should have been our main priority for decades but it hasn’t been, in fact even now some people would rather shout “fake news” than change a tiny aspect of their individual lives.

It’s depressing. But not unexpected.

And get used to it might be the only advice out there. I have given up trying to engage in respectful debate and conversation with people around, I have found that shrugging and saying “it’s going to happen whether you believe it or not” much more effective.

And we here in the UK don’t have it THAT bad yet. We have clean cold water pipes into most buildings. Electricity. Medicines.

Blind optimism is possibly the best way forward.

I agree with everything you say, about the planet just behaving as a planet does.

However, people just bluntly saying 'I'm loving it, get used to it' when they don't have health issues & just feel a bit warm, is lacking any empathy.

ive just heard about another elderly friend, the paramedics are on the way, because she's very ill with the heat. She's been doing all the right things.

its 32° in my room, the coolest room in the house. The sun is still around the other side. I'm contemplating trying to go somewhere with air con but not sure I can get there.

blind optimism is starting to feel impossible when faced with reality 🙇🏻‍♀️

I can’t believe people are still coming out with the ‘it’s just summer!!’ bullshit. Are they thick, disingenuous or both?

Both & few more adjectives!!

FWC2026 · 09/07/2026 12:56

EmeraldRoulette · 09/07/2026 11:33

They shouldn't come on a thread like this though

That's like if someone posts about being unable to find work and gets a reply saying "well I've got a fantastic job and it's really secure and it's an amazing salary ha ha". That person is being incredibly rude and should just scroll on.

This 🌷

MyFastZebra · 09/07/2026 12:57

I don't think it's bad in England? And I'm in South East - one of the hottest spots.

I was in Spain two weeks ago. Fuck me, now that was a heatwave there

What heatwave I'm near Rochdale and its been bloody cloudy all day 🤣

I bet your not saying that now!
Im.not a million miles away in bolton its extremely warm now!

SirChenjins · 09/07/2026 11:41

Exactly. Start a thread about the misery and dangers of winter and you will get lots of posters telling you how much they love snuggly blankets and hot choccy, and that it's all about having a positive mental attitude and seeing the best in every season.

But they're different people so it's irrelevant to this thread.

having a positive mental attitude. That may work when it's just a bit warmif a bit cold. But it does fuck all when it's causing your body to shut down.

I was - clumsily - trying to flag up that it is how things are going to be, and we absolutely need to take steps to deal with it so that people don't become ill, our food supplies don't suffer and life as we have known it up to now doesn't disappear for good. It's an awful thing to contemplate and I am enraged by folk saying "ooh, it's just summer, I love the heat". NO. This is a risk to human life and yet governments and countries just carry on blithely.

Well if that's what you were trying to say, 'get used to it' was incredibly 'clumsy' and every bit as enraging!

but I agree with what you've now said 🌷

Im also in the SE and for me it is that bad, the fact its worse in Spain doesnt help!!
In fact, Im fed up hearing from people in hot countries telling me how its so much hotter there and they are managing fine. Good for you.....I dont care! Knowing you are hotter doesnt make me feel any cooler!! (promise Im not picking on you @MyFastZebra, your post just made me think of this!!LOL)😉

Im actually at the stage where Im irrationally angry with hot weather...like I want to punch it in the face! Me and the dog are hiding in my permanently muggy, warm home, spending too much time dozing and eating ice cream whilst I shout at the sun. I may have actually lost it by this point!!LOL😂

Yes but I'm talking facts. And facts are important.

In Spain I couldn't sit or walk outside at all without burning to a crisp. It was like sitting in an oven. It was uncomfortable to sit in the sun for more than two seconds in Spain

It is NOT THAT HOT in England. It is fine to walk and sit outside here

Have you been abroad this summer? Go to Spain or France and then you might stop complaining when you come home.

I'm enjoying how mild the weather is in England after how uncomfortably hot it is in Spain

I bet you'd jump on a thread and admonish someone for complaining that their foot had fallen off because other people don't have legs, you know.

I'm just laughing at the total drama queens complaining about the heat, and saying that everywhere should close down because of the heat.

It's not even that hot.

Went to Spain a fortnight ago, was hot there and I’m hot here.
There’s a fact for you.

IThrewASnakeAtPalomaFaithsFace · 09/07/2026 13:52

It will end the second schools break up and then we will have incessant rain until September, when there will be a lovely Indian summer.
