I think it’s called Summer and perhaps as we’ve had many Summers with unseasonably cold temps and rain, we have all forgotten what it feels like- to have a Summer. Autumn will be along soon.

My worry is that Autumn will not be cool and crisp anymore, rather warm and stuffy 🥺

the80sweregreat · 08/07/2026 21:29

Autumn and winter in the south won’t be the cold fest we had years ago. It’ll be warmer and wetter, but those cold frosty mornings are almost a thing of the past.

Scottish schools finish last week of June go back mid August - apart from about 3 days a couple of weeks ago it's still feeling like winter most days here - heating is on!

wow, where are you? NE Scotland has been warm and sunny here today. Beach day tomorrow as another 24c. I hope it reaches you soon!

ForWiseRoseCat · 08/07/2026 21:35

I actually don't mind hot weather and sun but this is relentless and shows no signs of coming to an end before the 21st July where I am. I want some rain as my water butt is almost empty and I have some expensive acers to keep alive, and no doubt a hose pipe ban will be next.

My cats are also suffering and my car a/c doesn't work.

I also just want to be able to do stuff without coming back drenched in sweat or having to do it first thing in the morning. Went to the tip today and came back dripping in sweat. Being sticky isn't pleasant. 27c would be lovely.

Oh and to be able to sleep would be nice, tired of constant noise of fans.

the80sweregreat · 08/07/2026 21:37

I’ve woken up with a headache every single morning and achy. Water helps, but it’s just awful. How people can like being hot and sweaty is a mystery.

tillyandmilly · 08/07/2026 21:43

Feel for us lot that don’t have gardens and live in high rise flats! Would love a garden to sit out in of an evening!

the80sweregreat · 08/07/2026 21:46

I have a small garden and I only go out to put the washing out, if I go near heat my skin immediately burns up.
Ds2 is in a flat and it’s boiling for him. I do feel sorry for him and those in flats that hold the heat.
It is miserable.

Been moving my daughter from halls to shared house today. At least had a trip to home bargains with the air con. Nice to get home and water the plants to cool off

So it’s actually better to drink squash, isotonic drinks or electrolytes as they rehydrate you much better and replenish lost sugars and salt

the80sweregreat · 08/07/2026 22:05

yes, I need some different drinks and rehydrate.’

Denim4ever · 08/07/2026 22:10

I find I can tolerate up to 26 degrees but more than that is too much. It's cramping my style and I'm not getting my long daily walks. On Sunday I slept at a funny angle to get maximum fan blast and now have twisted arm pain 😡

But not everyone feels uncomfortable and sweaty at these temperatures. We are all different. I like this.

the80sweregreat · 08/07/2026 22:15

No, I know people who like hot weather and I actually envy them! I wished I could get on with it as it’s here to stay it seems.

Echobelly · 08/07/2026 22:17

I'm not a fan of long periods of over 30C - Edwardian terraced houses are not made for this kind of thing and WFH when it gets over about 31C gets pretty unbearable. Like others, I'm not keen to get aircon because it's more energy use and more climate change. Arrrgh!

wonderstuff · 08/07/2026 22:18

I normally love the sun, but this is very uncomfortable, it’s unbelievably stuffy at work, sweating from everywhere while trying to teach 30 tired and grumpy teens is not pleasant, the worst bit is the nights though, I’m not a great sleeper at the best of times, I’m really struggling now, my house is very well insulated and is roasting all night. I am the sort of person who only closes the window at night when it drops below zero.

wellwhatdoyou · 08/07/2026 22:18

I’m stumped.

I can’t take them swimming because both are under 5, and all the local places have a one adult to one child ratio and have two children.

We would bake alive at the park. And the equipment is horrible as it’s so hot.

Soft play is like an oven.

I am struggling!

The heatwave in Europe was two weeks ago. It's finished now. What's the temperature where you are? Someone mentioned 22C outside. That's not a heatwave lol.

So where is the divide? 15 degrees, wet and windy in Northumberland. We're supposed to have three nice days later in the week and that's it.

It was Durham - we had a few days of spotty spotty rain from the very bottom of yours. High teens and everything drying faster than it got wet, so really quite nice. Then it turned to proper rain after I hung my washing out, yesterday.

Today has been disgusting. It's nice outside now, though.

It’s been at least 30 degrees in London all week, 34 degrees tomorrow and not dropping below 30 for days after that. ‘Lol’.

There was a heatwave two weeks ago. However there are several new heat warnings in place within the UK. I'm surprised you're questioning people who are saying the temperature where they are is in the 30's.

Southern France and Northern Spain with their wildfires beg to differ.

Get used to childminders and schools closing then

Well, exactly. That's what I meant. Unless we adopt mitigation measures, we will need to get used to significant excess deaths, disruption to transport, increased food prices due to crop failures, possibly the spread of diseases previously held at bay by our cooler climate. But, y'know, beer gardens.
