Wonder if we should bring s hool summer holidays forward so break up mid June ot start or July go back mid Aug..?

Scottish schools finish last week of June go back mid August - apart from about 3 days a couple of weeks ago it's still feeling like winter most days here - heating is on!

Oh ffs not another one! I’ve been feeling really ill since late May now and need some cooler weather 😢

Me too, me too. I could have cheerfully reached through the screen & throttled her!!

Well the heat fanatics got what they wanted! Then a few of them have had the nerve (in real life) to moan to me about how unrelenting it is! That’s what I kept telling them before! Fast running out of sympathy with them and feel like saying at least they understand how I feel now and that I’m not just complaining for nothing.

I genuinely wish I could. According to the MET the lowest we're getting for the next week is 26 and for several days we're getting 32/33. 🥵

AND it always seems to be tsjen
jn some cool spot. Apparently 32° according to met office app. Several neighbours & friends in the area have reading if 35/39 in various gardens!!! Mine is 36° in the shade (sun around the other side now, hid Aline knows what that is. My car says outside temp 39° at the front of the house

So where is the divide? 15 degrees, wet and windy in Northumberland. We're supposed to have three nice days later in the week and that's it.

Bloody madness isn't it! If only we could all share I'm sure it would be lovely!!

VIII · 08/07/2026 16:42

Yes I'd happily donate 8-10 degrees, low 20s would be fine!

I live here too, and it's been shit today. Cold, grey, thick cloud, rain.

You call it shit, I call it heaven. House swap??

Seriously so wish we could share it out!!

hmm maybe they can move the wind turbines to push it up North.

i would if I could, even if it wasn't making me very unwell! You deserve some good weather! I'm not sure you'd want it for long though. My local forecast said 33 here today, it was over 37° in my garden.🤬 30 inside with curtains closed & fan on

I'm from Kent originally do know heat - and still prefer it to endless grey days, cool temperatures and dampness. Honestly, it strips your soul of any joy after a while.

There must be a solution to this north/south divide!

Glitchymn1 · 08/07/2026 17:45

Hate it, it’s too hot. Dog hates it too. Roll on winter. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Yeah, point all the wind turbines north & force the heat upwards!!

Move to Glasgow, we’re waiting for it to begin here.

It’s more than begun now! And we had our fair share a few weeks ago.

RhosynCymru · 08/07/2026 10:43

i empathise. Been crying a lot since this horrible heat started, which has been going on since end of May now. Chronic migraines and heat exhaustion over it and poor sleep. I never again want to hear anyone ever say we never get a summer!

I feel your pain.

I'm currently in bed with a migraine and so depressed. I really wish I could enjoy this summer but it's been hell so far.

VillageFete · 08/07/2026 18:17

I’m not a summer person but I’m really trying to embrace it as best I can.

Rosé in the garden, beer gardens, ice creams, picnics etc… But I couldn’t stand it if every summer going forward was riddled with heatwaves.

Genuine questions for those with climate knowledge…

Going forward, can we guarantee now that heatwaves will be expected during summer months? Could we get to a point where summer temps are always, consistently above 25?

What about our Winters? Will the chance of frost and snow become very unlikely and we’ll live in an eternal of mild, wet winters?

I always get a beautiful frost in my neck of the woods during November- nothing this past year 😢

I, too, have just been sobbing and sobbing and sobbing because of the heat.
I love British winters. I feel so much more cheerful when it’s gloomy and wet. Roll on winter!

Sidebeforeself · 08/07/2026 19:36

It’s summer! Yes it’s hotter than usual for early July but it’s supposed to be hot and sunny in summer. And there’s global warming so it’s not suprising. There’s lots that people can do to cool down. Sorry I just can’t join in with the wailing over this.

moggerhanger · 08/07/2026 19:38

This is the new normal. Get used to it.

Get used to childminders and schools closing then

Specialneedsnightmare · 08/07/2026 19:58

I love it. It will be cold and grey and wet soon enough for those of you who don't.

I wish it would be colder and we'd get some rain but sadly not soon enough according to the forecast.

Mossyoak · 08/07/2026 20:08

North east Scotland here - we’ve had a few pleasant days including today. Mainly been cool, dull, and heating has been used morning and evening for a bit as it’s still chilly enough. Dreading winter approaching with no let up and the price of oil😢. Wish north and south could share and meet each other half way as much as I love the sun, 30 degrees or thereabouts isn’t really enviable.

Thecomedyclub · 08/07/2026 20:10

I think it’s called Summer and perhaps as we’ve had many Summers with unseasonably cold temps and rain, we have all forgotten what it feels like- to have a Summer. Autumn will be along soon.

dadtoateen · 08/07/2026 20:29

Blooming warm at work but it’s summer…. Was lovely in the pub beer garden tonight though 😎

marantz · 08/07/2026 20:31

I think we just live in a hot country now, I do like it, except when I need to go anywhere or sleep ;)
