I need the heat to fuck all the way off so I can declutter properly in preparation for my house move. I need to do several dump runs but there’s no way I’m doing it at 31 degrees

BlackeyedSusan · 09/07/2026 08:09

Oh bloody hell @PinkOrchard You poor thing.

At least you are not trying to keep a newborn cool. (20 years ago was in the same position) It was hell then. Bet it's hotter now.Flowers

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 09/07/2026 08:43

DS has nosebleeds at everything. Too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry.

I struggled to sleep last night, and when I finally dropped off I got awoken to "MUMMY HELP MY NOSE IS BLEEDING!", but before waking me up decided to try and stop it himself by wiping it on the bedding and any towel he could come across. Cue having to start doing laundry before dawn.

We've no car to pick him up after school today, and I just can't bare the walk with the sun beating down on me. Suncream is not enough. I roast from the inside out. That 2 minutes stood in the playground waiting for the doors to open and let the kids out feels like an eternity with no shade and then the return walk is uphill, facing the bastard sun.

Thank you! I keep telling myself surely it would be worse trying to keep a newborn cool in this heat just to make myself feel better 🤣

Sending iced tea and sympathy to everyone with small children or pregnant!

Whyohwhy1973 · 09/07/2026 09:28

Meaco fans are amazing. They don't just blow warm air around. They feel like cool air. Expensive but so well worth it. That said, unlikely to be in stock anyway at the mo but worth a look. The neck fans have come on too and are much more powerful now, so they're worth a look. Hideously hot here in the North West and forecast to be the same for at least the next 7 days. I'm not ruling out a move further North at this point.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 09/07/2026 11:52

I read about those meaco fans and fancied one, but yes, all sold out. I’ve got my trusty bionaire that I’ve had for about ten years and it does seem to blow cool air. I use it to ‘exhaust’ the bedroom at night by pointing it out the open window or door depending on which way the wind is facing. Then I have my ridiculously 3xoensive Dyson pure cool air purifier tower fan thing that I’ve also had for about ten years. It isn’t remotely as cool as the Bionaire but I have it trained on my bed at all times.

i feel so sorry for my poor cat who keeps looking at me accusingly as if this vile weather is my fault.

it’s sub tropical outside already and not even noon.

Today will be so hard.

Sending cooling vibes to all.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 09/07/2026 11:55

O( yes. And there should be a special place in hell for people who blast shit music from their roof terrace for ally he neighbourhood to hear from 9am. It’s amplified because of the roof thing. I hate them. That and the fucking stench of weed. No doubt some arsehole will start burning shit later when I need to have all my doors and windows open.

Tetchy? Me?!

BlackeyedSusan · 09/07/2026 12:36

Last ever school run completed. 17 years done. The last two years have also had 3x 85 mile round trips to college per week.

Asda top up shop done. (It was cool in there and I found shady parking) Got my favourite ice-creams. There were only four boxes left right at the back bottom shelf. Invisible to most people who don't know exactly where they are.

Taken the heat sensitive stuff out of the car. The garage is ridiculously hot. But cooler than leaving it in the sun.

Driven over to ex's to put some kids washing in.

Windows are shut as it is "only" 30 inside and more outside. The sun is just coming round. It heats up a lot after that. Windows will open if the temperature equalises.

Got to go out later to take boy out. Will be nice and cold in the car with air con.

Pissed off with open windows on both sides of the house advice as we only have one side.

DancingLions · 09/07/2026 12:38

@ThisOldThang
I did look at those brackets but my external windowsill is quite chunky so I wasn't quite sure how the "feet" would get around that. All the photos I saw of it in use, they didn't have much of an external sill so the feet were able to rest directly on the wall. So if the feet weren't stable I wasn't sure how stable the rest would be.

@Sunshineandrainbow
Downstairs, I have a "prem-i-air" split portable but I haven't seen it online anywhere since I bought it a couple of years ago. So I don't know if they still make them. I was looking at the midea one linked above and I think that's the closest option.

I was able to set that up as I'm in a converted property. The downstairs flat has a bay window and I don't, so I have this kind of small balcony type bit. So the outside part is there and I have just plugged the gap where the hose goes out.

For my bedroom, I'm waiting on delivery of a meaco cirro 14k BTU. It's meant to be quieter and more efficient than standard portables, so we'll see! I'll update as to whether it's any good.

Sunshineandrainbow · 09/07/2026 13:55

Yes please update on the meaco. That's the one I am hoping comes back into stock by at least Christmas 😂

😂 crazy isn't it!

I actually got mine from Peter Tyson
Came up randomly when I was googling for about the millionth time! They don't have any now but might be worth keeping an eye on. I was signed up to AO, PC World and John Lewis for any updates. AO seem to restock around 6am when they do have some. I was always up too late to nab one as both times was on a Sunday. Don't know if that means anything!

Sunshineandrainbow · 09/07/2026 14:12

Enjoy your icecream @BlackeyedSusan sounds like a good find!

ImagineA · 09/07/2026 14:40

So glad I found this thread! Everyone around me seems very stoic in the heat and so I don't have anyone to moan to in real life. I cannot bear it - I actually feel as though it's preventing me from living properly! I'm meant to be starting a new role and I can't concentrate, need to pack for a camping trip but can't bear to even start getting stuff together, haven't cleaned properly for weeks now. We're camping this weekend and some people want to go the beach - sitting on a beach in this sun is my idea of hell!

I’d have thought the NW would be a safe haven 😱🥵.

Im sitting in my shady garden in the SE with my feet in a bucket of cold water and a cooling towel around my neck. Earlier I had a cordless fan blowing onto my face from the garden table.

I’m going to the theatre tonight, 3rd time this week and I have been pleasantly surprised by the AC in the trains and theatre

Absolutely not. It's 30°+ in Cheshire and hotter again tomorrow.

It’s just relentless isn’t it. No sign of it abating any time soon

I'm just wasting my life away this summer. I've sat and dozed in front of the fan all day since about 11 am. I'm lucky that I work for myself at home and can't be arsed to take on any work until the autumn.

ScaredButUnavoidable · 09/07/2026 16:59

It’s currently 33 degrees but the whole back garden is in total shade and there is a lovely breeze so me and the cat are having a little lie-down together on the lawn.

The heat inside the house is utterly unbearable.

Tintarella · 09/07/2026 17:00

@Jimmyneutronsforehead (hello from the gardening thread!) that's interesting your DS gets nosebleeds in the heat- ours has just started- and has had about four or five in the past month. I wondered if the heat could be playing a role. Urgh, I hate it! Roll on 24 degrees and a bit of rain

Thesquaregiraffe · 08/07/2026 12:40

I’m going to a concert tonight at Wembley Stadium which I had been looking forward to. Now I think the most comfortable I’ll be is in the car there and back with the air con! If I hadn’t spent so much on tickets I actually think I might just say “sod it!” And not go…. But I can’t - I’m taking three other people too! Urghhh - wish me luck!

How was it?

BlackeyedSusan · 09/07/2026 17:14

It's 32 (90) indoors and 32/33 out depending on the forecast. I've just been ironing for tonight. I managed a nap though. DD managed some washing up.

I'm usually ok up to 28. I'm struggling a bit now but cold drinks and a wipe over with a damp flannel help. It's cooler upstairs than it has been recently though it keeps getting hotter well into the evening and it's only by the early hours it begins to cool down.

About to go for a ride in an air conditioned car.

The main thing I took from that was 'last ever school run completed '. That's pretty significant. Hope you're ok? I would be in a melted heap on the floor by now!

I feel like I’m counting the days away too.
I can’t seem to focus on much else apart from when it’ll end. Didn’t help that there was a lot of teens hanging around last night making noise and not caring that people were trying to sleep at 4am.
( I think it was a prom party )

I hate everyone who makes the slightest noise after 9 pm. My neighbours dog, chatting in their sodding hot tub,....I hate them all
