Its just so draining, isnt it? I have plenty of things I could be doing but Ive spent the day just lounging about, sweating! Last night was the first night I really struggled to sleep too (Im in the SE so surprising I usually manage ok!) but its really made me channel my inner sloth today!!
I did make it as far as the corner shop this afternoon though for emergency ice cream and got complimented on my parasol....like Im going out in this weather without full coverage!!LOL😆

Pink, I was annoyed at first as they were noisy , but then I remembered I was young once ! I probably was a bit more aware of other people , but it doesn’t happen often ( maybe a few times a year ) so decided I should stop being a grump as long as it’s a one off.
I did hear police sirens too though..

Oooooh it's been a bit heavy today, and yesterday too (and tomorrow is set to be worse!) 😬 I struggled yesterday and felt weary all day. (Humidity yesterday was 50% at its lowest,) I've coped reasonably well today, (it's been 31C,) but that's because the humidity has been low-ish (32% at the moment.) I went out at 8.45am to the river and had a little walk, saw some ducklings, ducks, swans, and cygnets. Was back by 10.30am though!

Actually managed to clean the bathroom and kitchen today - (not deep cleans, just average ones.) They were bloody filthy 😬not been cleaned properly for about 10 days, oh the shame! (Luckily they are both east facing, so the sun wasn't streaming through by the time I did it at midday.)

Cleaned the lounge and dining room too. They are south facing. So that was a bit harder. They were pretty grubby too. That will have to do for at least a week. CBA with it, it's too hot!

Going to be 35 degrees C here tomorrow! 🥵

Hi light of my day is a cool shower. Trouble is , you have to get out of it ;(

I followed a tip here and taped insulation foil to the outside of the door to my garden office and was surprised at how much cooler it felt. You still get the light coming through so you’re not plunged into darkness so thank you to that poster.

I also hung a dark towel over the box room bedroom window as well as shutting the curtains and was surprised at the significant drop in temperature. We are getting thermal blinds but it will be at least a 4 week lead in

Im assuming thermal backed roller blinds are okay?

It may have been me @Abracadabra12345 re the foil as I’ve been banging on about my emergency foil blankets. Glad it helped.

The thing I’ve always found with any kind of blackout curtain or blind is that they have to be as flush with the windows as poss or heat can get trapped in the gap which is awful.

i used to have some blackout curtains with a thermal type backing in my living room, but they were on a pole about 6 inches from the actual windows as there’s a sill in the way (I should’ve got those perfect fit ones you stick on the actual windows but you live and learn) and I swear they made the room hotter. When I took them down after a hot summer the backing had gone all brown where the sun had burnt them too!

That's it @the80sweregreat there's been no deep clean, just kind of basic cleans, like just the bits you can see! 😆 I went to add this, but missed the edit window! It's not weather to be cleaning I know, but the filth/dust/bits all over the floor was making me itch, and stressing me out!

I appreciate that others are unable to do anything at all. As I've said before, I can cope with it better than some (better than my DH who is half dead!) but I do have empathy with people who are really struggling. 😘

As I said, it was a basic clean, and I won't be doing much for about a week at least - when it cools down a bit for a day or 3!

BRITAIN'S NEWEST HOMES KEEP CATCHING FIRE Tammi Atherton, 54, was sat watching Wimbledon in her newbuild home on July 4 when the fire alarm went off. She checked the house with her son Ben, 21. Nothing obvious. Then a neighbour started banging on the door screaming that the roof was on fire. Tammi and Ben ran outside in bare feet with their dog Oakley at around 12.45pm. The roof was already engulfed. Eight fire crews and four police cars turned up. It took four hours to bring under control. The roof collapsed before anyone could stop it. Her daughter Molly, 24, was in her garden in Bristol when her brother called. She drove over an hour with her partner and dad and arrived to find her brother just standing there watching the family home and everything in it burn.

The fire service suspects the solar panels started it. The estate was built two years ago by housing association Curo Group

. Molly says Curo were less than helpful, telling the family that because her mum owns the house, Curo can't get involved. Curo has since apologized, launched two investigations, and told every other household on the estate to switch their solar panels off. Presumably before anyone asks why they were left switched on. This is the second newbuild solar fire this summer. In May a £600,000 home in Wellingborough had its roof blow open with three adults and a child still inside, saved only because an off duty firefighter happened to be doing DIY nearby. UK fire crews are now tackling a solar panel fire roughly every two days. Britain's answer to net zero was bolting untested rooftop tech onto newbuild estates and selling it as progress. Nobody seems to have stress tested what happens when the climate solution becomes the fire risk.

The Athertons have lost everything. The house has been declared structurally unsafe. They can't go home. Curo gets to issue a statement and move on. If your newbuild has solar panels fitted by the same developer, maybe don't wait for the fire alarm to find out how well they were installed.

I bought an indoor / outdoor door battery operated thermometer with an outdoor sensor and am using various thermometers to measure the real temperature. So in the sun just now a basic thermometer showed it as 34 C. Inside is 27 C and in the shade outside it’s 33 C. Only have 3 pedestal fans around the house to cool us down along with a neck fan. I find I’m getting more used to the heat ie not dripping with sweat whilst doing basic tasks but it’s still debilitating and I can’t wait for it to cool down again

I had to move the outdoor sensor because I had placed it last night on a window sill to be in the sun to check temp today and it showed 50 C so the casing and sill had elevated the temp considerably. Photos of last night, after lunch and now

Currently 30 degrees downstairs and waiting for the weather to update so I can get some fresh air. I can see a breeze outside but it says it’s still over 30 outside and I don’t want even an extra degree in here as I can’t cool it down enough overnight. Was 35 today apparently. Only going down to 19 overnight which sounds cool but not when it’s at least 10 degrees hotter inside. 32 tomorrow. No end in sight. 😣

Need maximum of 16 overnight outside to get the inside cool. I’m so depressed.

I hasten to add that my iPhone weather app is stating it’s 26 C but in reality it’s 34 C in the sun here. The weather apps and MET office record temps in the shade so I want to know what it actually is in the sun. So I’m running in and out to check

It is making me depressed too. People get sad in the winter time , I get it in summer especially with these temperatures.

Made it to Wembley last night and frankly I could have rung my jeans out by the end of the show. Just how the MCR front man wore a kind of rain mac at the end is absolutely beyond me! My son had the best night of his life though and hats off to the band who entertained everyone despite the heat!

It took an absolute age to drive home but OMG the car air con!! Thank God!!

Me too, @the80sweregreat re reverse sad. I think I always had it a bit but now it’s like an existential dread every summer.

My upstairs thermometer on the Dyson just went to 30 so I opened the windows up here and there is at least a lovely breeze. So if it’s still 30 outside I haven’t gained anything temp wise.

I don’t know how accurate either the Dyson reading or the forecast ones really are. Still. I can breathe a bit now - always a bonus!

Btw, I rewatched Elysium last night and while it’s a good depiction of dystopian rich vs poor it’s rather more actiony than I remembered.

I’m getting up at silly o’clock to walk my doggy charges to avoid the heat. Then go home water the pots and baskets, before falling into a damp heap under a fan, housework, just doing the minimum. Walking dogs again shortly, then home, cool shower and bed. It hasn’t been too bad today, nice coastal breeze, and should drop considerably Saturday. Roll on Saturday. Very drained and tired though, it takes a while to recover doesn’t it? Love to all x

My son tells me this is K-pop - not in the least the same but absolutely just as hot there I’m sure. I think anyone performing in this heat are actually doing a marvellous job!! X

I ABSOLUTELY HATE this weather. It’s AWFUL.

I’m fed up with pretending it’s ok. My classroom today was 39 degrees. We couldn’t be in there this afternoon. I’m trying to tell the children “at least we’re not…” insert a job which would be even worse but whilst this is true I’m far too hot and I don’t want to be positive any more. I want to sit around at home on my own in my underwear.
Everyone needs to fuck off and leave me alone.

Does anyone else remember Charlie Ice Maiden and Charlie Ice Queen body sprays I was using them about twenty years ago. They were cooling body sprays that came in silver cans Discontinued years ago.

Soap and Glory used to do this I was using it in the 2022 heatwave after a bath and the following year too. Also discontinued.
