A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

KS has just agreed to give a £30k discount to EU students attending UK universities. He could have chosen to lower fees for our own students but no he prefers to suck up to UVL.

Another disgraceful policy
It’s OK for our own kids to be in lifelong debt it seems
This is how much Labour care about home grown aspiration and education

So it seems we the U.K. taxpayers or our kids will be paying for foreign students. Starmer is sticking two fingers up on his way out

Yes it's a disgrace. The only positive thing is at least KS will be out. Next to try to get rid of AB.

justasking111 · 30/06/2026 17:58

It will destroy some universities. They're still going because of overseas students. Maybe that's a good thing the labour party think.

Of course he has. The EU say "jump", Starmer says "how high". Eyelashes will be even worse. I didn't know EU students owe £5bn in loans!
'But it will fuel concerns that the £5bn in loans owed by EU students could continue to increase. While British students have their loans deducted from their monthly pay cheques, authorities don’t have the same ability to chase debts run up by Europeans after they leave the UK'.

This entire arrangement appears to be fiscally unsound!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/06/2026 19:11

Is “Eyelashes” going to be his name now 😂 I can imagine the frothing.

I watched a bit of Dan Jarvis giving his statement today. Reeves was sat beside him and she looked dreadful. You could see the stress.
Don't know why she hasn't resigned, why wait to be sacked?

I’m definitely over emotional about this but I frequently find myself wondering why everyone matters except British citizens

Maybe the Tories were the same but hid it better?

Because like Starmer she's trying to push through more taxes before the axe falls. What a party 💩 in their own bed because it's Burnham.

DH just asked where his tax bill was. It's with mine in the in box. Said he'll have to move some money from X savings account. Then he said fuck it I'm just going to spend it. That's the second time in a few days he's declared he's done with savings. After a lifetime of being very careful with money.

He's organised a builder for an outdoor repair he's been delaying for a few years.

Nuthatch26 · 30/06/2026 20:22

I caught up with some pods today on a long drive. Ed and George were discussing eyelashes. Ed said that Burnham will need to defenestrate Starmer if he wants to succeed.
They pointed out that it didn't do Rishi any good to not throw Boris under a bus, so Burnham shouldn't make the same mistake. Should be entertaining. <evil laugh>

It makes my angry how Labour have made people feel this way. We had that same feeling of 'what's the effing point' when the business went under.
Discussion around how to keep money and assets away from the govt's reach are commonplace since Labour got in amongst people I know.

Indeed. Was just reading how the home office are planning to house 120 asylum seekers in new build village homes in Suffolk. Stuff any locals waiting for housing. So wrong.

The more wealthy will have all the help and know how ,to keep their money from tax man.
The more they tighten that noose the more they will simply keep doing everything they can to avoid it.
