A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Indeed. Was just reading how the home office are planning to house 120 asylum seekers in new build village homes in Suffolk. Stuff any locals waiting for housing. So wrong.

Friend working in local government says every council has had this directive from central government. Which is IMO unfair on the councils because they're obligated to do it. How will they find the money. The working population of course.

I watched a bit of Dan Jarvis giving his statement today. Reeves was sat beside him and she looked dreadful. You could see the stress.
Don't know why she hasn't resigned, why wait to be sacked?

I think that says everything about her - the desperation, the lack of shame, the ambition over talent.

As my DD says, at school back in the day, her type was known as a ‘pick me’….

The damage she has wrought on many of us, I will never forgive Reeves.

Honestly we (the British taxpayer) ought to be rioting.

On ‘eyelashes’ - which is not a name I will be using for Burnham - I’ve been hearing comments about how good looking he is. I really cannot see it. Pictures of him from 20 years ago show a more attractive man. But now he looks to me like a supermarket manager.

I despise Starmer as a politician for many reasons but I can see him in court as a barrister. He’s not attractive to me but there is something distinguished about his appearance. All that evaporates when he starts talking, but in photos, yeah, he’s a barrister from central casting.

But if Starmer can be imagined addressing senior judges, Burnham looks like he should be calming down an unhappy customer by the pickles and sauces.

’By the pickles and sauces’ 😂😂😂😀😀

Agreed.

Burnham is also sporting a gut - not a good look, straining against his black t-shirt, whilst he’s doing his best to channel the late Steve Jobs.

Prat.

Noo Starmer is stuck together with photo ops and freebies.

He looks to me exactly like the cartoon at the start of the thread. Those eyes showing blank fear.

Same.
I don't see how she can stay in cabinet. She has no credibility. Her polling is as bad as Starmer's - for good reason.

Of course he has. The EU say "jump", Starmer says "how high". Eyelashes will be even worse. I didn't know EU students owe £5bn in loans!
'But it will fuel concerns that the £5bn in loans owed by EU students could continue to increase. While British students have their loans deducted from their monthly pay cheques, authorities don’t have the same ability to chase debts run up by Europeans after they leave the UK'.

The debts happened before Brexit. Before Brexit EU students used to get loans from UK Student Loan Company then go back to their own country and not repay. Not all EU students but only 38 percent paid them back. Since Brexit they can't do that anymore they now have to get a loan from their own country and pay for university fees upfront.

George Osborne said the same thing - go on your own terms rather than wait to be sacked. He said with hindsight he wishes he’d done it instead of having Teresa May sack him!

Interesting article on the Beeb. Will Andy put his money where his mouth is?

How many of the WPLP believe that men can be women? I'm never sure whether Labour representatives' comments about women actually mean real women, or the new fangled women, with cocks (to paraphrase Ricky Gervais).

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/06/2026 22:26

Labour MPs have complained of feeling undermined by what they call a boy's club culture in Westminster. They say this has contributed to scandals, structural misogyny, bullying, and a blind eye being turned to reports of sexual harassment.
The draft letter, yet to be sent to Burnham, states: "We have fought very hard to achieve our electoral success only to find that we are battling within our own party to be heard as women.

and yet…

DancingFerret · 30/06/2026 22:46

I think eyelashes wants to move operations to the north because he doesn't relish the thought of being in Kemi's crosshairs at PMQs. 😉

They aren't heard though. They're like mushrooms. Kept in the dark and fed plenty of 💩. That applies to both sexes btw.

“This is the job in politics I truly want,” Burnham said in 2018, of the mayoralty he had already held for a year. “Because, in a way I could never be in Westminster, this job brings out the real me.” Westminster, he added for good measure, “makes a fraud out of you”.

Middlerage · 01/07/2026 06:20

Did anyone see the clip of the defence speech where reeves announces her friend Keir and they have a hug? It reeked of insincerity….

Reeves won’t resign unless and until it’s made absolutely clear to her that there’s no hope of another cabinet job.

Burnham's skill is telling people what they want to hear.
There are loads of women in Starmer's cabinet, but it didn't help. Labour have a woman problem. Its visible from space.

There has been a lot of negative commentary on that. Not sure what they were trying to achieve with that display of fake warmth, but it hasn't worked.

Most front pages this morning going with Starmer leaving a £5bn black hole in defence for Burnham to fill.

Andy Burnham could have to raise taxes or cut spending in his first budget after Sir Keir Starmer blindsided him with a gap of nearly £5 billion in his defence investment plan.
