Anyone else’s home a complete mess after the heatwave?

We live in a really small flat with not enough storage so it’s always a job to keep clutter to a minimum. With the heatwave I’ve had my 6 year old DS home as his school was partially closed. We’ve had fans everywhere, toys out, and to top it all off the washer dryer has broken and I’ve had to hang laundry up inside the place. The heat has made me flop and my general feeling has been that I just can’t be bothered to do anything like chores! Perimenopause plus heatwave not a good combo.

I am looking around the place feeling like I’m itching to get it tidied up and cleaned but I’m still boiling, tired from rubbish sleep night after night and can’t WAIT for my DS (whom I love dearly of course) to go back to school now!

is this the situation for anyone else??

It’s just been far too hot to keep up with the normal level of cleaning, the place has been hoovered and mopped but that’s mainly because we’re getting bathrooms ripped out. The dishwasher broke so we have washed up. Today has been hoovering everywhere, polishing, many washing loads and mass tidying up!

Zerosleep · 28/06/2026 18:46

Yes! Could have written this myself. Feeling exactly the same OP.

browneyes77 · 28/06/2026 18:48

Oh you’re not alone!

I also live in a flat and I have a pile of washing on my sofa that needs to be sorted and put away, but with the heat I just can’t be bothered!!

I’ve had other housework to do and that’s fallen by the wayside too.

Nobody is going to see it other than me so it can wait until my energy levels have come back.

I’m also perimenopausal, and this heat has just wiped me out!

Went to see Tracey Elon’s exhibition because I really wanted to see The Bed. By the end of this week I decided she was an amateur 😂😂🤣

JennyForeigner · 28/06/2026 18:50

I have found my people. House is an absolute shitheat. Sticky lolly fingerprints, sandy dirty feet, can't open the upstairs windows because they are floor level and we have an autistic child. I just want to bleach everything.

Firehorse26 · 28/06/2026 18:50

Yes. I’m at the point where I’d happily set fire to my house so I don’t have to deal with it.

I've done the washing up, kitchen and bathroom surface cleans and about 20 loads of washing which now all need putting away.

I hoovered once or twice as I have a very fluffy cat who is malting and quite rightly won’t go outside. But the rest of my floors are feral especially the kitchen.

It’s just me and my daughter; who struggles at the best of times.

I. am. Done. 😬

I gave up when it got to 30 degrees. All I could do was wander about moaning about how hot I was. House is in a state of complete devestation.

yep, this was me.

TerfOnATrain · 28/06/2026 18:56

It’s been ok today, up early, all doors and windows open, house cleaned from top to bottom, no need to batten down the hatches again as the breeze was flowing. Two enormous piles of washing ironed as it’s been great for drying and awful for ironing the last few days. Beds stripped and changed.

make hay whilst the sun shines (or it’s warn and not debilitating hot) as I say.

ItsAHappyCoincidence · 28/06/2026 19:00

Absolutely refusing to do other than bare essentials this week, Chas and Dave (robot hoovers) are keeping on top of the fur babies fluff and everything else is if it needs it 😁

henlake7 · 28/06/2026 19:07

Same as usual TBH.
I'm actually super lazy with housework and barely do any but I am allergic to clutter. It means all surfaces are tidy and wiped down which fools the brain into thinking I'm more houseproud then I am!😄

Sunshine231 · 28/06/2026 19:19

Glad it’s not just me! I am also perimenopausal and the heat has knocked me sick. Had the littlest off school all week and both kids want to be in the garden all the time then trailing in and out for ice lollys / drinks with filthy shoes on, so my floors are a state. To top it all off we have all had some kind of awful cold virus which the youngest kindly brought back from preschool before they closed 😣 I’ve been feeling like a lazy slob because I haven’t done a lot all week 😢

BlueFlowerOwl · 28/06/2026 19:19

Got a bit more on top of things today, still loads to catch up with though. House has been a disaster zone this week.

Nofeckingway · 28/06/2026 19:20

The robot hoover that also mops is great . Washing done but no kitchen mess as no cooking done . Showers are clean as someone is always in it and are under instructions to clean as they go. . I have some ironing but as it's a steam iron told everyone to just wear something else . Surprised I haven't put on a stone as just eating ice cream . Don't know how doctor nurses and carers are managing as hospitals and nursing home always so warm .

Flossy1985 · 28/06/2026 19:22

Absolutely a mess!! I’ve managed to do the bathroom and hoover but I’ve let my 21 month old run riot! 😂 Thursday morning we did wet play in the garden that was it poor lil man cooped up in a fully blown fan room. It’s been a struggle to say the least.

User636373644333 · 28/06/2026 19:26

Yes! Not had any motivation all week for any proper cleaning,

you’d think hot weather would mean less clothes but nope!

we are fortunate to have a garden but it means grass has been dragged in on feet with the paddling pool out too and I need to vacuum every inch of the house!

TubeScreamer · 28/06/2026 19:28

Yes! It has just been to hot to do anything. What little time I have had early or late has been devoted to watering the garden and keeping plants alive.

Poobs2022 · 28/06/2026 19:34

My house is also a tip. We got back from holiday a day late on Weds as our flight got cancelled and my husband left Thursday to climb the 3 peaks. I've just about managed to do the holiday washing for the 3 of us. I left my velux's open on Friday night and it poured with rain onto the kitchen sofa and I've only just put the covers back on coz it was too hot to wrestle with them.

Friendlygingercat · 28/06/2026 19:34

I'm alergic to housework as most of it is make work. That's why I have a cleaner.

springtome · 28/06/2026 19:36

My house is filthy as I’ve barely lifted a finger all week. I just couldn’t be bothered. I have been busy as well as I’m on the committee organising a big event that happened this weekend so pretty much every night after work I’ve been doing things related to that. But the heat hasn’t helped at all!

Quiethelper · 28/06/2026 19:36

I gave the bathroom a big clean- cool tile floors and cold water and the cleaning product I use, it was about the only job I could face on Thursday. Hoovered today and did lots of washing last week as it was so easy to dry. X

muddyford · 28/06/2026 19:37

I've bleached loos and cleaned the kitchen sink and hoovered hair from the sitting room carpet but that has been it. Must do a bit more this week.

WellThatIsABitMad · 28/06/2026 19:38

MoiraRoseVibes · 27/06/2026 21:19

Yeah, I know what you mean. It’s been like an “all bets are off” kind of time. We’ve been doing whatever we needed to get through it. Including eating and drinking random stuff at random times! It’s been almost like a break from reality…

That sums up my week too. I only cooked once, the reflag of the time just picked on random things, minimal household chores.

Stressedoutmummyof3 · 28/06/2026 19:45

Mine was. I actually did some cleaning and tidying today but last week I didn't really do anything including cooking.

oldmanandtheangel · 28/06/2026 19:47

Yes and my house is small but that makes it worse as it's more condensed. Normally I hoover and dust daily (Dcat doesn't help in terms of fluff moult so I have to keep on top of it )
Proper panicking as broadband engineer coming tomorrow. Total mess and furniture needs to be moved too, I have no strength (very well insulated cottage, designed to be cosy ) He won't even be able to get to wires etc unless I start moving stuff now.
Just got in from work totally pooped. There's cat biscuits and fluff everywhere and I just hoovered the landing and nearly passed out. The landing he won't see. Sweat literally pouring into my eyes.
That was my test that I can't do this :( I'm sure they are seeing a lot of mess right now but !! It honestly looks like a hoarder house. He has to walk through the kitchen to get to my lounge and the kitchen is the worst. I can't do it middle of the night when it's cooler as we are a row of cottages (each 35 sq m total) and neighbours complain if I do anything after ten as they can hear everything

Clementing · 28/06/2026 19:53

MajorSamanthaCarter · 28/06/2026 09:38

No, I cleaned and tidied as usual, I can't bear a grubby house.

Same. The stress of my routine going and a dirty house, would be worse than the effort to keep the house clean. I even still did my exercise and weights every day at 5 am as is usual, but dripping with sweat!
