Anyone else’s home a complete mess after the heatwave?

northlondonnotislington · 27/06/2026 21:06

We live in a really small flat with not enough storage so it’s always a job to keep clutter to a minimum. With the heatwave I’ve had my 6 year old DS home as his school was partially closed. We’ve had fans everywhere, toys out, and to top it all off the washer dryer has broken and I’ve had to hang laundry up inside the place. The heat has made me flop and my general feeling has been that I just can’t be bothered to do anything like chores! Perimenopause plus heatwave not a good combo.

I am looking around the place feeling like I’m itching to get it tidied up and cleaned but I’m still boiling, tired from rubbish sleep night after night and can’t WAIT for my DS (whom I love dearly of course) to go back to school now!

is this the situation for anyone else??

Yeah, I know what you mean. It’s been like an “all bets are off” kind of time. We’ve been doing whatever we needed to get through it. Including eating and drinking random stuff at random times! It’s been almost like a break from reality…

Def all bets are off ! Its been an incredible ordeal hasn't it !

Mclaren10 · 27/06/2026 23:07

The fridge is full of out of date food because it's been too hot to eat and to hot to empty it

Not alone OP. Ours is a tip

My house is utterly disgusting!
I’ve kept on top of the laundry but that’s about it (although I have a big pile of school uniform to iron). Planning a big clean and tidy up tomorrow as it looks to be cooler but to be honest I’m not sure I can really be bothered, I’m so tired from lack of sleep all week!

Rainydays26 · 27/06/2026 23:13

Mines the same . My enemy is zapped its been way to hot to do anything.. Sunday is meant to be cooler so I'm hoping to do a big chunk of house work then.

dnadiscoveryquery · 27/06/2026 23:15

This thread makes me feel so much better about the state of my house! I’m normally a bit ocd but I just can’t function in this. Meno and Heat = Just survive and sort it out later.

mummabubs · 27/06/2026 23:17

I feel you. I live in a three storey townhouse and the mere thought of trying to drag the hoover up two flights of stairs was enough to make me nauseous. Today has been the first day for us where I feel like I'm starting to try and get on top of things again.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 27/06/2026 23:20

This is absolutely me.

My house is gross. I did clean the bathroom last Sunday but the exertion in the heat sent my blood pressure sky high so I’ve done very little. I’m itching to run the vac over but it’s too hot to even consider.

Growlybear83 · 27/06/2026 23:25

I spent nearly two hours ironing this afternoon 🤣🤣

whatcanthematterbe81 · 27/06/2026 23:25

Wish I could blame mine on the heatwave… but I’m like this all the time

frecklejuice · 27/06/2026 23:26

Yep. Bathrooms need cleaning, floors need hoovering, ironing needs doing but I’ve been so hot and just getting in from work and collapsing on the sofa! House is tidy but just needs a good clean.

OnTheBoardwalk · 27/06/2026 23:27

I’ve been digging in the back of the wardrobe for suitable clothes as I don’t line dry clothes I only use dryer or radiator (I know)

today I’ve had a T-shirt of a cat wearing a Christmas hat on as it’s the cleanest, coolest thing I could find

Happyjoe · 27/06/2026 23:29

I stood up with the intention to get on with Saturday chores today and promptly sat down again because of the heat. It's grim. Only good thing is getting the washing dry fast imo.

I did manage to give the kitchen a proper clean (limescale etc) but loads to do. Not hoovered all week, too hot.

blackheartsgirl · 27/06/2026 23:37

Normal here too. I don’t have little ones only teens now, so I do have that advantage. I wake up early anyway so I’ve just got on with stuff then.

catslovehairties · 27/06/2026 23:53

HelpMeGetThrough · 27/06/2026 21:32

Nah, normal here. It’s been hot and sweaty, but still needed doing, so just did it.

Same. We have animals and a tiny house so not doing any cleaning just isn’t an option. I got it all done first thing each day when it was cooler.

Crispynoodle · 27/06/2026 23:54

My entire house is one big mess! I have no excuse however since I live in Northern Ireland and it’s barely been over 23 degrees

HoppityBun · 27/06/2026 23:58

However bad yours is, @northlondonnotislington mine is considerably worse.

It has been awful and I felt unwell and when I wasn’t feeling unwell I was more lethargic than a comatose slug.

JenniferBooth · 28/06/2026 00:11

Same here Top floor social housing flat. Window restrictors fire door and black cladding. Even the door handles are hot.

Heyhelga · 28/06/2026 00:32

Yep. Just been completely worn out each evening this week after work, school run and cooking. Been managing to keep on top of the kitchen tops/sink, the loos, and stripping the beds a few times this week. Floors in particular are in need of hoovering and mopping. Am out all day tomorrow so not exactly sure when I will be able to catch up. Hopefully it's cooler next week.

Hottno · 28/06/2026 00:45

I live in SE and after having GC staying last night….which was hideous I cleaned floors, hoovered because temp wash down to 27c ! Stayed up to watch the football so not expecting to be as productive in the morning!!

Sparkleandfizz · 28/06/2026 00:53

I feel so much better after seeing this thread. I have just been keeping my kitchen worktops clean and squirting bleach down the toilet. It's just too hot to do housework. I am planning to blitz the whole house on Monday (hoping it will be cooler by then)

ViciousCurrentBun · 28/06/2026 08:21

It’s ok but I have been doing stuff at 6am before it’s hot, I baked a big cake a couple of days ago at 6am as I promised one a few weeks ago for a buffet do I was invited to.

We hung old cream curtains on the outside of our windows that face the sun most of the day and it has cut down the heat inside by around 3 to 4 degrees by science Professor DH reckoning.

But there are no children who need looking after whixh always makes a huge difference,

whirlyhead · 28/06/2026 08:35

I vacuum about once a month!! I just sweep the floors every now and then the rest of the time. It’s too hot where I am to clean in summer but the house looks fine. So long as I dust it’s ok.

goldenhunter · 28/06/2026 08:35

No, mines been kept on top of because I can’t stand the flies if not. Plus I hate the feeling of crumbs on floors or things feeling sticky from the little ones who have permanent “ice lolly hands”. It’s been miserable to do it some days but it would have felt more miserable for me if it wasn’t clean!!

maddiemookins16mum · 28/06/2026 08:37

Mine is ok, I did it yesterday at 6am!
