Anyone else’s home a complete mess after the heatwave?

We live in a really small flat with not enough storage so it’s always a job to keep clutter to a minimum. With the heatwave I’ve had my 6 year old DS home as his school was partially closed. We’ve had fans everywhere, toys out, and to top it all off the washer dryer has broken and I’ve had to hang laundry up inside the place. The heat has made me flop and my general feeling has been that I just can’t be bothered to do anything like chores! Perimenopause plus heatwave not a good combo.

I am looking around the place feeling like I’m itching to get it tidied up and cleaned but I’m still boiling, tired from rubbish sleep night after night and can’t WAIT for my DS (whom I love dearly of course) to go back to school now!

is this the situation for anyone else??

I’ve cleaned the upstairs of the house this morning, the bathroom was awful as we’re in a really hard water area!
Also stripped the beds and have them out on the line to dry. DH has weeded and tidied up the front garden too.
Planning to do downstairs this evening once the children are in bed (didn’t want to waste the whole day cleaning as no fun for them)

Same here and so warm some days. I did a bit today. God it piles up doesnt it. Dd has mid week sports and we out of house then too

It crossed my mind how people manage in a hot climate. I then realised that they're far more prepared than us! I don't even want to walk to the corner shop.

Yes a shit tip, iv got tomorrow off and my partner has just come off night shifts,so we are going to spend some time blitzing tomorrow morning, after a bacon sarnie and a strong cup of coffee, I haven’t touched anything since the heat started. I’m dreading it 😂

FFSItsTooHot · 28/06/2026 17:45

Yes,my flat is a mess at the moment. The heat made me feel so awful that I could barely function to do the bare essentials. And before someone comes along and tells me to pull myself together,it was 'just a bit of warm weather',I am disabled plus I have a medical condition that requires me to take 2 medications that greatly exacerbate my bodies reaction to heat. Basically I can't cool down efficiently. Thankfully now it's cooled down a bit today and I can actually breath without feeling like I'm inhaling thick soup,I'm slowly trying to get things straight!

Frn85 · 28/06/2026 17:46

Feel you on this, my washer decided to not drain so had 9kg load of water to clean aswel as having fibro, DDD, and my daughters bday and my cousins kids party. So since 24th it's been pure chaos. I'm so exhausted and I'm seeing a surgeon in a few days and need to move house soon ...xx

themesses · 28/06/2026 17:46

Yep it’s been far too hot to do any sort of housework! I’ve managed laundry, dishwasher and wiping work surfaces in the kitchen- that’s about it. I’ve tried to catch up a bit this weekend but it’s still pretty hot!

thatswhatshesaid36 · 28/06/2026 17:46

Yup - one of the main reasons I hate it being so hot, I get bugger all done. Self employed and too hot to work in my office (the conservatory!) and too hot to clean so everywhere ends up a right state.

I haven’t vacuumed all week, the bathrooms have only had loo cleaner squirted down, basins a quick wipe.
The kitchen is ok, worktops are clean, the dishwasher emptied every day but that’s it.

No way am I doing any more until it cools down, the bedrooms have varied from 25 to 30 degrees this week, most of downstairs has up at 36.

It’s just DP, me and our dogs, no children.

Edited

Yes finding it hard to get inside roon temp down 🥵

godmum56 · 28/06/2026 17:50

I had a lovely leccy in this week working around the house including in my en suite so i had no choice! House had to look clean and organised...at least the bits he could see!! He was also doing electrical work in the garden so the area he was working in had to be tidy and accessible. One of those weeks I am just glad is over.

nutbrownhare15 · 28/06/2026 17:51

It was a bomb site this morning. I've managed to do a bit on it today but lots more to do.

Asyoulikeit123 · 28/06/2026 17:51

Oh hun! Im the exact same, I am light skinned English lass, can’t hope with the heat! House is a tip! As we speak there’s a chicken cooked in the oven, no veg peeled, I’m a heap! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Sorry.not.sorry !!!! Xxxxx

omghereistrouble · 28/06/2026 17:52

Did some washing managed to put some out nice and shady where the line is. The bathroom quick wipe floor quick wipe with mop wash up and work top wipe over. no cooking just whatever snacks we need. Partner out tomorrow so if weather stays cooler i am going to hoovering the lounge it needs it! dog seems to be shedding hair like mad poor thing

StarCourt · 28/06/2026 17:53

Yep also in a very small flat with no storage. We often look like a Chinese laundry and I haven’t used the dishwasher for days as it makes the (open plan kitchen dining living) room too hot.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 28/06/2026 17:55

I have gone the other way. Because it was so hot I've not been able to get out running, which I usually do every day, which has given me lots more time in the house. My cottage has been quite cool, so I've managed to move lots of furniture around, break up some old bookcases and get the layout of the living room sorted out.

Back to running tomorrow, so the renovating will have to wait again now.

RudolphTheReindeer · 28/06/2026 17:57

I ran the hoover round Thurs as we had a dip 8n temp to a chilly 26! I've been doing the washing late in the evening and hangout out overnight and brining it in early morning to manage that

Inthezone5578 · 28/06/2026 17:58

We moved house over the last week. Absolutely did not expect a heatwave

Daftypants · 28/06/2026 17:59

Where I am has been very warm but not crazy hot 🔥
I did quite a bit of cleaning in anticipation of a hot week , now it’s needing a good clean again.
My house is large , only me to do it + disabled adult child makes a right mess ( I have 3 adult children)
I have kept on top of the kitchen cleaning , cleaned all the toilets and done loads of laundry 🧺 which now needs ironing.
I might send that out this week to an ironing service as a one off

@northlondonnotislington using your dryer would have heated your flat even more - probably best it conked out!

Put some stuff out to dry a couple of hours ago. All dry. Quicker and more cost effective that the washer/dryer!

... meant to say, also sounder re the environment ...

dutchyoriginal · 28/06/2026 18:01

Total bomb site as well. Sympathies to all of us!

Wagyue · 28/06/2026 18:03

Standards have definitely slipped here.
We have had take out as i said sort yourselves out as i am not cooking.
Encourage a little clean up, per room, a sit down rest.... and then the next room.

Very good to Encourage children to pick up after themselves.

MargaretThursday · 28/06/2026 18:05

My lounge isd about 50% dd's stuff back from uni (finished course so needs to go away when she's sorted her room), 25% ds' stuff back from uni (going back in August) and 25% costumes being sorted from washing after a performance a couple of weeks ago. I see no prospects of it looking tidy in the near future.

Amberlynnswashcloth · 28/06/2026 18:07

On one hand I've managed to get through so much laundry being able to put it out on the line: mattress protectors, rugs, teddies, winter jackets, all pilled up because I haven't had the energy to put them away.

Kitchen in disarray. No idea what we've been eating its been a blur of random picky meals and about 500 ice lollies. It's the longest I've gone without using the oven.

CotswoldsCamilla · 28/06/2026 18:07

Yep me. I had hoped to tidy up this weekend but it’s still been too hot. Have a cleaner who comes on Monday and I hate when she spends time tidying rather than cleaning as she did last week so am going to have to do it tonight. Ugh.
