Anyone else’s home a complete mess after the heatwave?

We live in a really small flat with not enough storage so it’s always a job to keep clutter to a minimum. With the heatwave I’ve had my 6 year old DS home as his school was partially closed. We’ve had fans everywhere, toys out, and to top it all off the washer dryer has broken and I’ve had to hang laundry up inside the place. The heat has made me flop and my general feeling has been that I just can’t be bothered to do anything like chores! Perimenopause plus heatwave not a good combo.

I am looking around the place feeling like I’m itching to get it tidied up and cleaned but I’m still boiling, tired from rubbish sleep night after night and can’t WAIT for my DS (whom I love dearly of course) to go back to school now!

is this the situation for anyone else??

Well ours is in a bit of a mess as DH and I both work and our little one has been at home for a lot of last week. DH and I always do bits and pieces in the evening but it's just been far too hot (and also peri).
I'd love the luxury being home without her next week whilst she is back in school but of course that's not an option for working parents.
So will just have to tidy little by little after work as we always do (once the weather is cooler).

ThatLilacTiger · 27/06/2026 22:04

I can't not hoover, between the toast crumbs and the dog fur, but I've had to drag myself kicking and screaming through the bare minimum, more so than usual. I just feel so slow and heavy, like gravity has been turned up.

Winderwall · 27/06/2026 22:06

Dinner has been cold food from the fridge.
The washing up has been done to keep the flies out.
Bleach down loos but that’s it.
and clean washing EVERYWHERE because I’ve been churning it out because it’s drying so quickly but now wardrobes are full and I don’t know where to put it.

I had some sort of mad moment on Friday and cleaned all my inside windows, pressure washed the patio (that was more of a pleasure though 🤣 a delicious, wet pleasure 🤣🤣🤣🤣) did 5 loads of washing and did a deep clean in all sorts of weird and wonderful places.
Not sure what possessed me. But I just stopped for cold drinks and ice cream regularly, put the fans on, and enjoyed the cold water 🤣.
The only thing I changed was not cooking dinner. Did a cold dinner which mostly consisted of more ice cream.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 27/06/2026 22:13

I should add though that I'm able to create wind tunnels through the house by opening all the doors and windows so although it was hot, there was a good breeze through. That plus the fans was fab.

Torturedsoul · 27/06/2026 22:14

Thanks for this thread. I've felt very disgusted by the state and smell of the house. Something was rotting somewhere that I couldn't find. Gave the kitchen sides a good wipe down finally today and it's gone so think it was maybe some milk or something spilt and dried.

The floors are utterly vile but tomorrow is another day.

What is really irritating is the amount of flies.

Boriswentcamping · 27/06/2026 22:17

My house is such a mess! It’s just been about survival! The upstairs has been 32 degrees and I haven’t been able to go up there in days, just had a quick tidy up now as it has cooled a little and realised how long this it going to take! Laundry piled everywhere. Been unwell too so that hasn’t helpered. We’re in a small new build - overheats horribly. The kitchen is a nightmare. The bread is warm and sticky, potato’s have literally dissolved in the dark cupboard they were in. Fruit rotten before we could eat it, I’ve had to throw away so much food! :(

TirednessOnToast · 27/06/2026 22:20

The photographs for the marketing of my house are being done on Monday 😭

AhhhSchtop · 27/06/2026 22:20

Laundry has been great as I have a garden, so have done shit loads and hung it out to dry (so quickly!).

Other that, I haven’t done a stroke of housework all week. Absolutely knackered from poor sleep and this level of heat just saps my energy anyway. I’ve told myself not to stress about it and I wont be doing any proper cleaning until the temperature drops.

Its ice lollies and lounging weather, not hoovering and cleaning weather!

lilaccamille · 27/06/2026 22:20

Mine is a mess everywhere. Basics done but that’s all. Waiting for it to cool down.

EmeraldRoulette · 27/06/2026 22:23

I was away until Thursday

Left the place very tidy - also a very tiny new build flat which cooks you

Came back, did the laundry immediately because it was going to dry very fast

And it's still hanging up.

I've been sleeping in the living room because if I try and transport Aircon unit to the bedroom the hose falls out the back and you can never get it back in again - and also I have to move some stuff in the bedroom to vent it out of the window

somehow everything is a complete mess

After two days!
Thank you for starting this thread. It made me feel better.

ChickenBananaBanana · 27/06/2026 22:27

Yes glad it's not just me. I'm 22 weeks pregnant with a 9mo that wants to CLIMB everything and my house is honestly an absolute travesty

guiltynetter · 27/06/2026 22:30

This thread makes me feel so much better. The bathroom and kitchen are clean but upstairs is a mess and there's just so much STUFF everywhere. Can't wait for tomorrow for it to cool down a bit so I can go round and gut everywhere

dudsville · 27/06/2026 22:32

I've been on top of laundry and kitchen and bathroom basics, fresh bedding and towels weekly, and I did vacuum today for the first time, but that's it. I have a big pile of ironing that I'm itching to do. I'm so lethargic. I'm waking at a snail's pace, but even interested in conversation. I feel like I've been put on pause.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/06/2026 22:32

My house looks like a total Minger lives here, there’s clothes I’ve taken off dropped everywhere. It’s FILTHY.

also the snack cupboard is empty as I’ve eaten every nut and chilli chickpea in the house

NNforthispost · 27/06/2026 22:35

Ninetysixdegreesintheshade · 27/06/2026 21:56

This made me laugh!

My cooking had also gone to pot as I can’t bear the oven or even stove being on and nobody feels like proper food anyway.

We have been absolute slatterns and minging studenty eaters, living on pitta bread & houmous, crisps, nuts and ice lollies.

Shinyandnew1 · 27/06/2026 22:37

I have done the bare minimum this week, I just couldn’t face it.

fashionqueen0123 · 27/06/2026 22:41

So glad it’s not just ours.

Weve got camp beds in the lounge. Mattresses on our bedroom floor so kids could be in the room with AC. Then associated bedding everywhere!

Toys and craft stuff all over. Paddling pool bits and garden stuff all over the garden. It’s just been too hot to sort. I’ve been itching to tidy up think I should be able to tomorrow!

Anon501178 · 27/06/2026 22:46

corblimeygvnr · 27/06/2026 21:25

Yes masses of ironing to be done 😬

Same! It's been far too bloody hot for it 🥵 and the grass is full of weeds because its too hot to cut it in the day and in the evenings I have a cluster feeding newborn to tend to! Also kids bedrooms are a state as they've been home most of the week due to heat/illness so really want to get that sorted

Lovemycat2023 · 27/06/2026 22:58

Dead insects everywhere, cat fluff (he’s moulting) and can’t face any hoovering.
The bathroom is the hottest room and so that’s not been done.

On the plus side the laundry basket is empty, and I haven’t been cooking so not a lot to wash up (other than a wine glass).

Luckily our cleaner is coming Monday! It’s my favourite luxury.

MoiraRoseVibes · 27/06/2026 21:19

Yeah, I know what you mean. It’s been like an “all bets are off” kind of time. We’ve been doing whatever we needed to get through it. Including eating and drinking random stuff at random times! It’s been almost like a break from reality…

Yes! It felt a bit surreal for sure.
Thank god tomorrow will be normal temperature.

missspent · 27/06/2026 23:03

Yes it made my house look like a squat! Fans all over the place, dog beds in our room as we have air con and the other rooms were too hot. We were upside down and still are to some extent

WolfinSheepsDress · 27/06/2026 23:04

Yes op.
Today I was able to get to the bathroom properly !
It felt great to give it a proper clean !
