Husband is ruining our honeymoon getting drunk …

inkyspells · 23/06/2026 22:22

Today is our first proper day here
We are in Mexico
He doesn’t listen to Any sort of advice or seem to have any common sense.
Anyway he started drinking at 9am this morning in the drink up pool.
Whiskey /cocktails and shorts but no water or soft drinks.
He was with a couple, and let me go for lunch alone as he was drinking with them.
We had plans to watch the England match ,he didn’t even come to the room to get his England shirt -just drank with this random couple.
I went to meet him at 3pm and it’s now just after 4 and he can’t stand ,being sick ,dizzy and still won’t drink water .
I have put him into bed
In going out to the beach and grab some Food soon I think.
Im honestly so sad and feel really alone
Am I being ott or would you be sad too ?

Oh, heck, was that the same woman?

I do realise there are more of these useless men than one might've thought, and they all seem to find doormat women who'll vainly try to "love them better".

I'm starting to think an execution squad might be the only solution.

“book yourself an excursion”. I initially read your comment as ‘book an execution’, which seemed a bit harsh.

That could possibly be arranged in Mexico.

HausOfHoIbein · 25/06/2026 20:30

Did you marry him thinking he’d change after the wedding? They never change, in fact they get worse because they know you’re less likely to walk away after the wedding.

JFDIYOLO · 26/06/2026 22:55

Wasting your time, people. Nothing to see here.

Debbons · 27/06/2026 17:48

Please do not stay with him. I have been there and got the tee shirt on your behalf. He has chosen alcohol over you, and always will.

LoyalShaker · 27/06/2026 17:52

This is so rubbish for you. There isn't much you can do if he won't drink water. As someone else said, put him in the recovery position, and leave a glass of water by his bed. I would be asking if this is what you really want to put up with from your husband? Sorry, but he isn't thinking of you as a priority. You deserve better.

AlexStocks · 27/06/2026 18:25

My main concern is that he's drinking is WAY disordered. Is he an alcoholic? Are you SURE about this marriage?

Probability of an unwanted honeymoon pregnancy .
Iirc
First came love.
Then came marriage.
Then a baby in a golden carriage.👶🧑‍🍼

I'd get the next available flight to somewhere else and rethink your life. The man is a moron and a fool. Things can only get worse, get out now before you ruin your and lots of other people's ( your family, future children's ) lives.

Callie1925 · 27/06/2026 20:18

How terrible for you. He should deeply apologise to you tomorrow morning however meanwhile place him in the recovery position and if in doubt call for medical assistance. If so, the embarrassment should be hard lesson for him and a massive wake up call.
Good luck!

Allog · 27/06/2026 21:15

Youve made a big mistake

Yeah it’s a all inclusive resort
it’s been so hot here today
Im trying to get him to sip on water but he won’t
What do I do ? Do I just let him sleep it off?
Yeah he’s done this before on Holiday
promised he wouldn’t do it again but here we are

This isn't just a holiday, it's your honeymoon ffs!

What an appalling man. I guess this is your life now unless you nip it in the bud.

Jesslovesengineering · 27/06/2026 21:31

Reader, I married him!
(readers) AYFKM?

The fact you said he promised bit to do this again tells me he has form and yet you married this child.

I recommend annulment.

I have one of these...yet every holiday he gets obnoxiously drunk with anyone who happens to be there...many nights ive spent the evening with a couple that I wouldn't chose to be around just because hes having "a nice time" its horrible for you...hes gotten carried away again...all it takes is a holiday and one sniff of a barmaids apron and its all drinking and regret. Save this up for tomorrow and give him shit...he would hate it if it was you right. Maybe do that tomorrow!! Lol

Objectrelations · 27/06/2026 22:52

I have never said this on a thread before. Leave him.

LubyLooTwo · 27/06/2026 23:42

Sounds like you've got a bad one there. Why on earth did you marry him when he has previous form. Is he a drunkard at home?. I would leave the pratt alone to sober up then read him the riot act. Tell him that next time it's a divorce.

ElatedOrca · 28/06/2026 08:14

Honestly I'd leave & get the marriage anulled.
I lived with an alcoholic, didn't realise how bad his drinking was until we actually lived together.
Always said sorry the next day BUT then was like, any way let's not talk about it anymore. A few days later & the same shite, please dont waste your life going through it.

He was vile with his words when drunk, very very aggressive in his actions, would be right in my face spouting verbal abuse.
I ended up getting arrested because he was pissed up Pete again, he was warned twice to get out my space & stop being aggressive towards me, he came towards me, screaming abuse in my face so I pushed him back, he was so drunk he stumbled backwards & landed on his arse. I went to bed as I had to work in less than 9 hours, next minute police are waking me & cuffing me for assault!
They could see he was clearly drunk but as he'd made allegations blah blah. Please dont go through that.

If he's done it before, and then again on your HONEYMOON, he will always do this. You cannot continue with this marriage, sad that that is. I got married to a bloke like & going to the pub with his mates trumped everything. I stuck it out for 14 years before throwing in the towel & it was such a waste of time.

Have a look at some of the OP’s previous threads.

She also has form for never returning to threads so any questions are pretty futile.

I’m not sure on MN but if you google “Mumsnet inkyspells” the threads should come up Smile
